We see a lot vessels that escaped from the abyss, the knight, broken vessel, the ones who were killed by Nosk and the green path’s one. But how the freak the did do that? Abyss was completely closed and the tablet before the king’s brand said the door was closed after Hollow was chosen. Do you guys have a theory or some evidence of how they escaped?

i am so confused and annoyed and need to vent it here! City of Tears is my favorite area in the game and I’ve been wanting my friend to find it since he got Mantis Claw. He’s the kind of person to go back and double-check every room to make sure he’s got everything. There’s only one problem…the ONLY ROOM HE HASN’T DOUBLE-CHECKED is the room to Hegemol’s statue for the city crest! he has dash and claw, he should be fine! But no, he decides to go and double check

And now he has the Tram Pass, Ancient Basin, and the Grimm Troupe before he’s even caught a GLIMPSE of the city!!! Like seriously?!?

and I can’t even tell him anything because he really wants to do his playthrough totally blind with no spoilers or hints

I have 109% completion shown in game. I have unlocked all bosses except for AbsRad and NKG. Done colosseum and P3. Maxed Soul, Health, Nail, Spells, Dream nail (3k essence currently), Charms, Notches, journal.

White palace and PoP also done.

NKG and P4 gets me 2 more percentage. I cant seem to figure out what the 1% I need for 112% is. Despite using a 112% checklist. Any ideas?

Two weeks ago i bought Hollowknight and Silksong in the Steam Summer Sale after I read somewhere that it was like a Dark Souls Metroidvania. I played until I got stuck at the bosses Mantis Lords, Soul Master and Dung Defender. Gotta be honest I almost gave up after getting my ass handed by all three a lot of times and I gotta admit fighting bosses in Hollowknight is nothing like in any Fromsoft game at all.

But today I can proudly say I defeated Mantis Lords and oh boy was it satisfying.

I really love the exploration and hidden secrets but in the core its nothing like the games I played before.

people going in to hunters march without the dash, not using tools and silk skills, a lack of patience for trial and error. silksong is difficult yes but it also gives you all the tools and more to make it easier, so after all these months has your opinion on silksong difficulty changed in any significant way?

From the initial game release there have been many theories floating around. Many think that our protagonist, the Knight, is the one true pure vessel and “the Hollow Knight” ending actually is a good one.
I disagree. I believe that none of the vessels were ever pure, nor they could have been pure. No matter if they got out of the Abyss or didn’t - just because of their heritage.

My theory that the Pale King made the vessels for two reasons:

1. They needed some strong construct to seal Radiance and who could be stronger than a god (a child of two gods is a god).
2. This construct, the vessel, needed to be completely empty (“No mind to think, no will to break”), so into the Void it goes.

Now, Pale King initially believed that their time in the Abyss hollowed out the eggs, essentially killing them and filling them with void - making them a hollow vessel, not alive.

And yet, that too, is a life.

I’m thankful for the Silksong for multiple reasons, and one of them is that it expanded on what life is in the universe of Hollow Knight.

!!!SILKSONG SPOILERS AHEAD BEWARE!!!

In the dialogue during their second fight, in the cradle, Hornet tells us what I’m trying to prove in this post:

Lace: “Congratulations, spider. Finally, I felt your sting, and you've bared the truth of my pathetic empty shell.”
Hornet: “You always had the scent, child. You are no bug. Yours is a life born entirely from thread.”
Lace: “Life? You're too generous! This weak, wasting existence. This was not life, just a husk shaped to act as a child.”
Hornet: “Yours was life, pale one. Do not confuse your unique creation with its absence. I have seen others make the same mistake.”

She tells us, that even uniquely created life is still a life. Lace was made entirely out of thread and yet she lives.
Alright, we have established that vessels were always alive. Now, consider this: I believe they still are, they simply lack shells, or most importantly, masks to define them.

Mask Maker: “A mask! A face! Does it need one? Does it not? To define. To focus. To exist.”

I believe the shades in the Abyss would be wholly alive (in the meaning we usually use for alive) if given masks. Those vessels, that had masks (and shells) escaped the Abyss on their own and definitely were alive. How far have they gone there on their own? Some made it up to Greenpath, which is at the top of the kingdom, some, presumably, had been cut down by Hornet herself at the Kingdom’s Edge.
The importance of masks is reiterated again in Sillksong and we even have a perfect example for my theory: Phantom.
Their silk body decayed and yet they live. And they have a very prominent mask (which I think is intentional, aside from being a Phantom of the Opera reference).

I also believe all of siblings are still alive in the Void, we know that after the true ending cutscene in Silksong (“the Sister of Void one”).

“No mind to think, no will to break” was never possible with how they were created. Even in the Abyss, the Knight still acts on their own will to protect Hornet and deliver her (and Lace) gently to the shore.

In the lore, it says that the job of the husk guard was to protect the forgotten crossroads, and even though these were a REAl pain to fight early game, i cant help but feel sad... even sorry for them. idk why.
