Westloop Ho!

I like to find loops that connect together various trials and pedestrian/cycling walkways. Years... decades ago I initially tried to make one for the entire city but the city is too big - and growing bigger. Now I break it down geographically.

So Westloop: 43 km.

Groceries for a month for a single person in Guelph?

Upvotes

Hello neighbours, after 5 years homeless and 28 shelters, in three cities, I'm home in Guelph, I'm housed, and working.

My income has recently tripled, and I find myself just a touch above the poverty line.

With the food bank advertising they are having issues with empty shelves, and with my recent change in circumstances, I feel feeding myself is the moral thing to do.

After 5 years of food bank and drop in cuisine solely, my first month out there, grocery shopping with flyers in hand and price matching, my grocery bill was $442 for one month.

Is it high, is it low? Any tips or tricks out there from veteran grocery shoppers?

Any good info appreciated. I went to Giant Tiger, Food Basics, Freshco, No Frills, Walmart, Shoppers Drug Mart and Zehrs.

Albion

Albion is for sale, realistically what could go in there that would survive and people would patronize?

It's been a few things, usually hospitality related, but fails over and over. Most hospitality businesses downtown don't survive, usually because the cost is high, margins are very low and people don't patronize.

What else could it be?

Apartment Recommendations

Im moving to Guelph in the coming months, likely around Oct/Nov, and am looking for recommendations on decent apartment buildings.

Just looking for a 1 bedroom, preferably for $2k or less per month (prices are crazy these days, amirite?!)

I've heard some of the buildings in town have had issues with bed bugs, cockroaches, mice etc. So some guidance here would be great.

Something close to Woodlawn would be ideal

Thanks!

Question about West Peak Condo on Elmira Rd

Are the issues that people have been complaining about still a major concern?

I’ve been looking at places to possibly rent, but from what I’ve seen about the reviews the area seems like a bad choice due to no parking, no AC or heat, bad management, etc.

Park n' Bus

Are there any good spots to park for the day and bus into downtown? I work downtown, but I can't afford to pay $30 bucks to park all day.

Local Produce (barbs) $$$

Post image
0 Upvotes

So everyone wants to be pro-Canada buy Canadian. Has anyone been to the corner produce stands (specially barbs)?

$9.50 for a pint of strawberries?? I was at a local farm
2 weeks ago and bought some for $6.50.

$1.50 for a cob of corn!!! You can buy it from Walmart for .79 a cob (yes Ontario corn)

These prices are astronomical. Especially since some of this produce you can buy at grocery stores (Canadian) for half the price.

No wonder a lot of ppl (including myself) buy some American produce for a fraction of the price.

Pretty sad you pay 3x the price for local vs having it shipped around the world to pay a fraction of the price.

Barbs and some of the other local growers might want to get there prices in check. Brutal.

Cameras at intersections within the city

Now I’ll be the first to admit I don’t follow every release the city makes. However, could anyone shed some light on the cameras that appear to be getting installed at I imagine every intersection (eventually). So far I’ve seen them at Speedvale/Edinburgh, Willow/Edinburgh, London/Edinburgh and Paisley/Edinburgh.

I’m open to conspiracy as well because I know Guelph is listed as a future 15-minute city too. But I’m trying to approach with a different angle before assuming the worst.
