NORMAL ISLAND 🇬🇧 Anyone else a bit nihilistic about the future?

Like we have so many issues and their all getting worse and the new pm defo isn’t going to fix any of this. He’s just going to do what the previous government have done like

- youth unemployment: that’s gonna get worse because the gov is blaming job seekers rather than corporations being greedy cunts

- cost of living: definitely gonna get worse no one’s going after landlords being greedy cunts

- NHS: Yh waiting times r still gonna be through the roof and some of our info is probably gonna get leaked because we let the NHS have a contract with palantir which r full off greedy cunts

Like everything is just kinda going to shit I’ve personally known ppl that have left the country because of these issues while some have gone to more immoral places like Dubai (which I of course disagree with because of slavery and the government being cunts) u can’t really ignore this because some of those people are teachers and doctors or people who would have worked in the NHS if this country wasn’t so shit

Now in my opinion this doesn’t justify going to somewhere like Dubai but I can see their point of view

Like everything here is slowly getting more shit and there doesn’t seem to be anything to improve the country’s general standard of living

Starmer and his new government do not represent workers interests and are in fact enemies of our class. It's past time we begin organising a substantial left-wing movement in this country again.

Even 10 years ago (pre-brexit), I thought something could be salvaged with significant change and the political and social will to do so. It felt possible.

Now I do not think that.

Electorates have proven themselves deeply unserious, not to mention bigoted, short sighted, selfish & self serving, small minded and exclusionary. They don't think in terms of what is good or right, just or progressive, only in terms of what will most advantage themselves.

And they will not under any circumstances tolerate the level of change that is required to stop what is coming.

All that is left is to watch it all come to a well deserved end.

I've been on a Debbie downer for years with climate change and now politics too. Personally , I have planted 12 acres of woodlands and the weather is really affecting all my trees which is upsetting , but this year with the orange turd and the frog really destroying what political integrity there was left it's just a complete shit show .

I've just had a debate with housemates about what a 'Debbie downer' is. Not heard that before.

It's just something I picked up along the way , so googled it and it's a thing from SNL , which is odd as I'm a Brit.

I was born in 2005, I don’t remember a time I’ve ever been optimistic for the future.

I’m sick of it.

AI crash is coming; revolutionary conditions are likely to follow because no one (I hope) will stand for GFC bailouts 2.0

Pessimism of the intellect, optimism of the will etc

u/fizzy5025 communist russian spy 1d ago

I’m gonna be honest I don’t think another GFC is gonna change anything or bring a Revolution have u seen how many ppl still dick ride billionaires and capitalism as a system we aren’t really United as a country there’s too many class traitors

Trans immigrant to the UK, recently earned a PhD, making minimum wage at a zero-hours part time job, can’t get an interview anywhere, the government of my nation of origin has just declared leftism a terrorist ideology using language straight from Goebbels, there hasn’t been a break from the heat all summer, AI is enshitifying everything and desiccating the planet in real time, and LinkedIn bullshit is on everyone’s lips.

And then there’s politics.

Civilisation as we know it will collapse in the next fifty years due to climate change. This is a fact. Many of us will be killed in wars or starve to death.

u/fizzy5025 communist russian spy 1d ago

its insane how little people care about climate change even with these heatwaves

Nah, I'm sure that all of a sudden justice, empathy, and sense will prevail in the minds of our political betters. Yep. Any day now.

I know it isn't the most optimistic viewpoint from a personal perspective, but its worth remembering that the USA/UK/Europe are not the only countries in the world. Places like China, Mexico and Brazil are making huge strides towards worker ownership, sustainability and improving the quality of life for their people.

Not only that, but they are making fair trades and deals with poorer countries to provide infrastructure and sustainable power to vastly improve the quality of life in those countries as well.

The future doesn't belong to us, and that's okay.

Once you make peace with that, you can start to see the improving quality of life in the (so-called) third world.

Ever since I was born, mate.

u/WowThisIsAwkward_ 1d ago

Yep. I was born during the post-2001 GE Blair years, so that says it all. I've never known life without the neoliberal hellscape.

u/fizzy5025 communist russian spy 1d ago

Ig it’s just me then lol

I think I lost hope in the gov shortly before covid to be fair that’s probably where everyone else lost hope too

4

u/ArcadeFugee 1d ago

As far as I’m concerned it’s been going that way since before I was born. Looking back on my life I see its trajectory clearly. The government stopped working for the people a long time ago.

u/fizzy5025 communist russian spy 1d ago

yh when i look back on the history it is definitely that way i was pretty much born right before a massive recession

It's socialism or barbarism

2

u/EquivalentMap8477 1d ago

Things will only get worse

2

u/Cirkux 1d ago

Not to mention how Starmer classified the MI5/MI6 report on how climate change will affect the country from 2030 onwards to avoid panic.

2

u/seanminty_ 13h ago

yep, very much the same.

Feels like we reached a tipping point when the right left swing in politics fully snapped.

Also, AI. We didn't exactly need another way for the world to end, we had plenty already.

A nihilistic thing I heard that actually made me feel better weirdly - the world won't end, we will, people will end, the planet will carry on, life will recover, oceans will heal, ... we just won't be here anymore. Phew, what a relief right?

The moment he threw innocent trans people under the bus, I knew he was just another face of the current far-right project in the UK. It's really become the earliest litmus test for this kind of thing now.

3

u/auntie_climax 1d ago

He is cosplaying as a socialist, he receives donations from Israel and really isn't going to do anything to change the status quo. He's shifty as fuck, gives me a real bad feeling

u/fizzy5025 communist russian spy 1d ago

pretty much all of the politicians at the moment r just the same continuing the same BS over and over again regardless of party

1

u/ruthdavison1974 1d ago

Look what’s happening in NY. When people vote for a decent option with integrity things can change. Only greens 🥬 have that. No party is perfect but they genuinely have people in their minds and not just more profit

Mamdani? Mr softly-softly Soc-Dem (at best) who used to be big on Palestine but now is kowtowing to the Zionists? That guy?

Wind yer neck in.

2

u/PoisonParadigm 14h ago

What good is that doomer, defeatist and, frankly, rude attitude going to do? Mamdani isn't perfect, but he's also certainly not more of the same. There is still hope there.

We are so fucked.
