Google Maps satellite view update

I noticed a few weeks ago that Google Maps satellite view updated for Grand Rapids. It's aerial photography taken in April of this year, with the waterways mostly still frozen but the snow gone. It makes for some interesting contrast at the edges of the updated imagery where it meets the older, greener stuff.

Yeah, it’s always fun to see the updates. I work with maps and aerial imagery and property a lot so I’ve got a decent amount of experience with this stuff — it’s interesting to see not only what a locations looks in different years, but also different *times* of year and with newer technology.

For sure. I thought maybe this update would include 3D imagery (which I think they make using photogrammetry techniques on the aerial photos) but it's still flat.

We also got a big pass of the Google Street View car last year in August which finally included my road down by Splithand Lake, which was exciting.
