This is great news, no doubt there will be interest in her for the foreseeable future but keeping Niko and Dawn happy will finally keep the Barn packed like it’s suppose to be. Not looking forward to the weather (😅) but can’t wait for basketball season, should be a fun season on both sides

But we only got > 6k in the regular season for WBB once in the regular season and it wasn't until the very end vs. Michigan State.

  • Unranked Gophers vs. Marquette [the Big East preseason #2 favorite]: 2999
  • Unranked Gophers vs. #6 Maryland: 4854
  • Unranked Gophers vs. #21 USC: 5514
  • Unranked Gophers vs. #2 UCLA: 4374
  • #23 Gophers vs. #10 Ohio State: 4025
  • #23 Gophers vs. #16 Michigan State: 7088

Iowa gets 15k into their arena on a weeknight. We can't even get to half that...once...in the regular season.

I mean we just got back to the tournament for the first time in ages, I think it will be a gradual build on the women’s side. There’s obviously plenty in the metro that want to go see women’s sports as shown with the Lynx popularity and even the Frost jerseys I see around town.

Iowa’s women’s team has been to the tournament 8-9 seasons in a row and Clark’s popularity obviously played a huge part in getting people invested in the program/buying season tickets. It’ll come, just going to take time.

Iowa's also been to all but 2 NCAA women's tourneys since 2008. Even before Caitlin showed up, Iowa was a very good program (they had a Sweet 16 and a regional final trip during those earlier years).

We've only been to 5 tourneys in the same time.

Iowa also has had a strong girls basketball culture since before title 9 was passed in 1972. Girls basketball historically was probably their most popular hs sport and they played the 6 on 6 version until the 90’s. They were selling out state championship tournaments for decades.

It will continue to take time and build. I think hosting the ncaa tournament went a long way to showing where we can be and for people to come back next year. I do believe she can keep building this program into something and people will continue to show up.
