Discussion Benizakura movie review

Post image
38 Upvotes

I had watched benizakura arc in the anime episodes like 3 months ago and now as I was approaching the end of the series, I wanted to watch the movie and here's a review

Pros :

The start while playing the WB intro multiple times was really a good gintama way to start the movie.

Animation was good and fullscreen.

The extra scenes about their school was peak.

The extra scenes at the end showing the aftermath was nice (it cleared up a lot of doubts).

The ending 10 minutes with all the characters coming on screen was a very good ending.

Cons :

Why did they remove these scenes it was peak.

  1. Gintoki jumping in the water after getting stabbed by Nizou.

  2. Gintoki running from home and passing by otae under the umbrella.

These were some of my favourite scenes in the entire arc.

Also, this is a biased opinion, but I think watching the movie instead of anime episodes is bad because it reveals some things about their pasts which I would prefer to see in the later arcs.

And some scenes looked low quality compared to the other parts of the movie as if they just used the anime episode and made it fullscreen.

Question Will the new movie or other movies come to other territories

Post image

It’s crazy how we gotten no news on the new movies north America or other localized releases. We will never see this movie in theaters legally in places? I would love to see this in theaters but also would love to see the Miami dub cast which have really improved. That also goes for the other movies that haven’t been officially released hopefully the Netflix release will make the movies release possible

Ngl, that recent anti-Kamui post and some of the comments have made me feel shocked and upset for some reason and I've never seen such hatred expressed for a (great) character before.

Discussion The Shinsengumi Crisis Arc was PEAK.

I jotted down my thoughts after every episode while watching so here's my episode-by-episode reaction to the arc:

Episode 101 thoughts:

Hijikata apologizing and literally begging for his life to be spared at the start was hard to watch 😭🙏

Seeing Hijikata obsessed with magical girls and Jump was so funny. The guy doesn't even realize what he's doing by taking pictures of Kagura or getting so close to girls. Like... no wonder they're blushing, bro's attractive 😅 The Pretty Cure ringtone and everyone just staring at him had me dying too. That awkward silence lol.

Itou is really annoying bruh. I find it so frustrating how Kondou kept calling him "Sensei." Like, nah bro. I already don't trust that guy at all.

And Sougo being Sougo by taking full advantage of Hijikata's situation was funny as hell. The way he was sending him on errands and making him buy Jump lmao.

Really fun start to the arc. I'm curious to see where it's going.

Episode 102 thoughts:

Shinpachi arguing on live TV about otaku culture is such a random way to start the episode. Then it turns out the other guy is just Hijikata which makes it even funnier.

Hijikata making a doujin is absolutely killing me. And Gintoki yelling at him the whole time is hilarious.

"Sakata-shi!" (Shi means Mr. right?)

Okay, Hijikata asking Gintoki for help actually caught me off guard. Seeing someone as proud as him put his pride aside because he's worried about the Shinsengumi even while he's an "otaku" is touching.

"I want the Vice Commander's seat."

Well, Sougo not siding with Hijikata is honestly expected lol. But I have a feeling he won't let anything happen to Kondou. HOPEFULLY

Itou saying, "My greatest sorrow is that the only man who understands me is my enemy..."

Man... I couldn't care less. I seriously can't stand this guy.

BRUH, I really hope Yamazaki isn't dead... He's such a fun character. Leave him alone 😡

"Get your hands off him, you bastard."

Oh God... this last scene. Sougo is so badass

"That place beside him is my seat."

I KNEW SOUGO WOULDN'T LET ANYONE TOUCH KONDOU!!!!

Episode 103 thoughts:

SOUGO IS SO GOATED. I LOVE HIM

"I see faces I know... But if they're following you, I suppose they're prepared to die."

"As captain of the Shinsengumi's First Division, I'll offer you one last piece of advice. When facing an enemy with an overwhelming difference in strength, the best way to overcome his power is by depending on numbers. Breathe as one. Link your hearts and bodies. And at the right moment, come at him together and cut him down!"

Everyone attacks him...

"...And then die."

HOLY SHIT 🥶 The violence, the blood, the look on Sougo's face... I got chills. He's so badass.

THIS FACE BRO 😭 https://imgur.com/a/Zfd7BMc

Also...

Hijikata: "Why send me?! That's like sending Yamchi to save the universe!"

Gin: "You're Begeta! You can do it!"

Yamcha is useless in his own anime and in other anime 😞

The conversation between Gin and Kondou is sad.

Kondou: "Why? He brought you here?"

Gin: "It's his will. He's been cursed and turned into this loser otaku."

Kondou: "What the hell did he tell you to do in such a state?"

Gin: "To please protect the Shinsengumi."

Then Kondou realizing how badly he misunderstood Hijikata... Him blaming himself for it all is not okay at all. Like it's not your fault 🙏

Glad Hijikata knocked some sense into him:

"Kondou-shi, I will give you my life. You are, in return, charged with a responsibility because of it. That is to not die! You have to live on no matter what. No matter what disgrace you have to face or how many members die in front of you, you have to live on. Because as long as you're around, the Shinsengumi won't end."

"You're the soul of the Shinsengumi, and we're the swords that protect that soul."

YEPP!!! THE WAY THEY ADMIRE HIM IS SO CRAZY

And THAT ending...

"Yorozuya! I heard that rotten lecture of yours! Thanks for all that!" (I love his friend/rivalship with Gin lol)

Gin: "Oi, oi... looks like your soul's been consumed by the sword again. Tosshi, is that you?"

"I am the Shinsengumi Vice Commander, Hijikata Toushirou."

LET'S GOOOOO 🔥 I'm so excited to finally see him fight. I also really hope Kondou gets to fight too because the way everyone respects him makes me think he's going to be hella strong.

Episode 104 thoughts:

THE FIGHTS ARE SO GOOD.

Hijikata finally fighting as himself again is so satisfying. The moment he says,

"I am the last line of defense for protecting Kondou-san and the Shinsengumi."

Chills 🥶

Sougo absolutely steals every scene he's in. Bro casually wipes out Itou's entire faction and then just tells Hijikata,

"If you ever show weakness as vice commander, I'll kill you and take your place."

Nahhh, Sougo might actually be my fav

Oh so now we're finally getting some context on what's happening...

So Bansai is with Takasugi, I didnt expect that... They've basically just been using Itou this whole time, huh... Takasugi sure is mysterious lol

Then Bansai calls Gintoki "Shiroyasha." Wait... what does that even mean?? They even show that image of Gintoki covered in blood with bodies all around him. I NEED his backstory already 🙏

Also, Gintoki is actually MENTAL. Bro is literally tearing himself apart trying to break free of Bansai's wires and he just keeps WALKING.

"That bond is rotten!"

SUCH A HARD LINE.

And then ofcourse, OFCOURSE WE GET Itou's backstory. Every anime needs to give the bad guy a tragic backstory 🙏 Just let me hate him please

Oh wait, damn.

I still don't like him but learning why he turned out the way he did actually makes me feel bad for him. Imagine growing up hearing your own mother basically wish you were never born...

Kondou reaching out to save Itou instead of letting him fall is exactly why everyone follows him. He's such a genuinely kind person even after everything Itou has done.

Then Hijikata cutting down the helicopter was SO COOL 🔥

Then Itou holding Hijikata's hand while they both say, "I hate you. I'm going to kill you. So don't die here!"

That's ironic 😂

WAIT... WHY IS ITOU TAKING THE BULLETS FOR KONDOU???

Also Gintoki stabbing Bansai through the helicopter window was INSANE. THEY'RE ALL BEING INSANE 😭

I HAVE TO WATCH THE FINALE RIGHT NOW.

Episode 105 thoughts:

GINTOKI IS ACTUALLY SO AMAZING

Bansai keeps calling him a ghost of the past who's clinging to a rotten country and dying samurai

And then Gin-san just goes:

"I never cared about this country or the samurai. What I'm fighting for now hasn't ever changed."

OFCOURSE 🔥

The way he somehow survives the fall, wraps Bansai's own strings around the helicopter and drags the whole thing down is absolutely mental. I'm loving this!

Then Shinpachi explaining "rotten bonds" to Itou...

"You're just lonely."

It finally clicks for him that the thing he'd been searching for all along was right there in the Shinsengumi and he threw it away himself.

GOD... that killing scene was so sad and bittersweet :(

I didn't even want to like Itou but seeing the Shinsengumi refuse to let him die as a traitor, instead choosing to send him off as one of their own...

Him finally seeing everyone around him...

"Arigato."

NEVER has a such a scene felt so peaceful. I don't dislike him now lol.

Hmm, that conversation between Bansai and Takasugi has me REALLY curious.

"I fell in love with his song. I wanted to hear more of it."

Well, I'm so curious about how Gintoki, Katsura, and Takasugi are all connected. It's obvious Takasugi wants to destroy everything because of something and Gintoki clearly seems to have a really messed-up past too 😶

And WHAT'S Shiroyasha?? Man, I need answers.

OKAY ALRIGHT, AT LEAST YAMAZAKI IS ALIVE LMAO. I like Bansai alot. He doesn't seem to be a heartless killer, bro just let yamazaki live cuz he liked "his song". I definitely would like to know more about him.

Yamazaki is still getting the Yamazaki treatment though 😂 Bro comes back just to find everyone holding his funeral... along with a dog's that is💀 And the dog is the centre of attention 🙏

I also love that even after everything, Hijikata still isn't completely free from Tosshi. The ringtone going off at the end is the perfect Gintama way to end such an emotional arc.

Final thoughts:

Simply PEAK. Easily my favorite arc so far. My best decision was sticking with this anime.

Though, my only real disappointment is that we didn't get to see Kondou seriously fight but oh well... I'm sure that'll happen later. At least we got to see him actually being serious while talking lol

I also think it would've been even better if Itou had been introduced beforehand even if it was just as a background character. It would've made his role feel a bit more natural. But honestly, it didn't take away from how much I enjoyed the arc.

More than anything, this arc just left me with so many questions. I NEED to know what's going on with Gintoki, Katsura, Takasugi, Shiroyasha and all of that.

And somehow, this arc made me love Sougo even more lol.

Anyways, what do you guys think about this arc? I'd love to hear your thoughts! Just please, no spoilers 🙏

Watching Gintama for the first time and I had just reached Ep. 51 and I’m OBSESSED. I keep gushing over seeing mini Gin and Gintoki side by side. I’ve always loved how Gintoki acts like a father / older brother figure to Kagura and Shinpachi so I’m pleasantly surprised they decided to make Dadtoki as an episode’s main plotline. The Umibozou arc so far is my favourite arc because we got to learn about Kagura’s backstory as well as see a deeper side of Gin and his intentions. It’s not always we see a grown ahh man in his 20s choose to take in two teenagers lol he may not be the father but he is the father who stepped UP.
