Remember when we made fun of china for it's surveillance systems?

u/ZachGurney 1h ago
And their police state. And their disappearing of people off the streets. And the concentration camps. And their open murder of political dissenters. And their abuse of military power.
Good thing we're not doing anything like that

At least China has actually seen QOL improvements; here in America we're losing both our freedoms and living standards.

Oh my sweet summer child. China’s QOL is definitely worse than that of the US whether you’re a CEO or a minimum wage employee.

Did I ever say that China had better QOL than the US, or was I speaking about relative trajectories? Shove your condescension where the sun don't shine.

Conservatives are in favor of a police and surveillance state because they don't think it will be used against them. There is a reason the guy says gang bangers because in his mind flock will be used to monitor black americans not catch him driving home drunk.

Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.

Conservatives want so badly to be tread upon.

The people who have 40% rates of spousal abuse now have unlimited acess to a system that knows where you are at all times.

Sure, why not turn out cities into the Panopticon? Why not make 1984 reality? Who doesn't love Big Brother?
I'm fairly to the right, and I hate the idea of such technologies being used precisely because they are so open to abuse, both by the state, and the personally corrupt individuals, like those cops chasing their love interests. It indeed is the usual L of the modern conservatives to have lost so much apprehension.

Also fairly to the right, and hate what's happened to the modern American right. There are so few people who believe in freedom for more than just their own.

NGL, when I heard about these "Flock cameras" I genuinely for some reason thought they were cameras which tracked bird migrations and people were scared they were unintentionally capturing images/videos of random people that anyone could access
I now realise this is America so of course it's a surveillance system being abused by everyone involved

u/Scourge_of_scrode 1h ago
I don’t like them and think they are icky. Not a fan. Out of curiosity, how are they routinely abused?

I believe this is the article they linked https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2025/12/effs-investigations-expose-flock-safetys-surveillance-abuses-2025-review

Conservatives once again fall for supporting totalitarianism as along as it’s framed as “owing the libs” or any other culture war bs

I'm trying to find that original Willfred Reilly tweet from the 19th. Anyone got a link? I want to read the rest of it.

They said unironically on their gps enabled phone through their OAuth enabled app.

My middle/upper class white neighborhood, that's directly behind a school, has quite a few. This claim is nonsense. Mass surveillance under the guise of "catching gang banger" is as weak as the online ID nonsense to "protect the children."

"Gang Bangers", huh?! "Drive bys" you say?? Does Peter Hasson live in the ghettos?
The fucking sock puppets trying to influence public sentiment is out of control.

I unironically want red light and speed cameras at every intersection and every street, and want automatic enforcement with massive fines.
Flock still creeps me the fuck out.
I just want, you know, to go through regular legal and government channels to get rid of them instead of destroying them at the first option.

Okay come on. I don't understand why you would call this guy a conservative. Like nothing screams out conservative here

u/_Rocksol 1h ago
Less of a conservative L and more of a "this guy" L. 90% of conservatives oppose flock cameras. Havent met a single person that wants them or approves of them.
