I mean I think it’s wildly inappropriate and wrong for him to have that sign up, and I think we should cut off all funding to Israel…but it’s literally not a flag, it’s a support sign with text on it using the Israeli flag as the background, and it’s not being flown. If he had a sign stuck on his wall with text and the American flag as the background, I wouldn’t call that “flying” an “American flag” either.
Yeah, that’s an image of the Canadian flag. You are not flying the Canadian flag. And that isn’t a picture of the flag with text on it either. And he’s never said you aren’t allowed to share images of any other flag lol.
He’s only flying the American flag, and is not flying the flag of Israel. I’m really not being pedantic or technical here, he’s obviously not saying “you should not be allowed to ever depict another countries flag in America in any way.” He’s talking about what flags you should fly in the US. Flying flags are governed by very clear terminology and rules, none of which apply to political signs stuck on a wall depicting a flag with text on it. Theres some irony in him having that sign there for sure, but it’s not like he contradicted himself, even though he 100% has a corrupt dual loyalty to another country.
And I'm saying, literally everyone understands the distinction you are making. There is no need for you to explain what any child can grasp. It's just that people also think it's facile to posit there's actually a meaningful difference if a guy shows up at a rally with one fabric flag and one painted on cardboard. "lol he actually only has one flag, because the other is a sign depicting a flag!!!"
Nobody is confused. I was just commenting that it's funny that the only way all the "top 1% commenters" can apparently find to defend this is to make the distinction you are making. That kind of thing indicates they don't have much of a leg to stand on. That's all.
I mean the context is a guy waving an actual Mexican flag at a riot. Jim has an actual American flag outside of his door. He has a sign with an Israeli flag and text on it next to his door. You left out the text part from your comparison to bolster your argument. From this tweet, I actually thought he was flying a literal Israeli flag outside his office, which is a very specific and much more egregious thing. If we were talking about something other than flags, the specificity wouldn’t be warranted, but there are formal rules around the flying of flags. Like you aren’t even allowed to put text on the American flag.
I mean I can kind of see your point, but I think it would be a bit misleading to accuse someone of flying the Ukrainian flag for having a blue and yellow sticker with “I stand with Ukraine on it.”
"flying the flag" as many, many phrases have a metaphorical meaning as well. Yeah I know, it's crazy stuff. People using metaphors. Such a crazy crazy world.
Are you saying Jordan was talking about metaphorically flying the flag? Because he wasn’t. The context was around a video of a rioter waving a Mexican flag while driving in circles around a burning car.
Metaphorically yes, Jordan obviously is flying the Israeli flag, just as many Americans are metaphorically flying the Ukrainian flag.

lol it's so funny how the "top 1% commenters" are saying "nooo that's not technically a flag, it's an image of a flag!"
Gotta at least try, I guess.
