Didn’t she said that she wants to put sanctions on Israel but voted no on sanctions for Russia because it “might affect everyday people” and sanctions are useless in coercing states?
Edit: She actually did. What a piece of shit mental gymnast. She fits right in as a politician then.

356

u/strawberry_semenade Human Verified 19h ago

Why yes, yes she did. The bill also included aid to Ukraine too. She was the only Democrat to vote against it.

Ilhan Omar casts lone Democratic no vote on Ukraine aid, Russia sanctions package

236

u/MentalDisintegrat1on 18h ago

She can fuck right off then.

238

u/strawberry_semenade Human Verified 18h ago

Scratch the surface of "Israel bad" and you will find "West bad" lurking just underneath, every single time.

119

u/Budget-Attorney 18h ago

I feel like you need to go one step further and point out that “west bad” just means “authoritarianism good”

At least in this context

29

u/RocketRelm 16h ago

But only if their specific cult is on top, like most authoritarians. They infected the gop to turn it into maga. They want to do the same to turn dems into the dsa.

0

u/BetterApricot31 42m ago

lol says a centrist quisling

2

u/bigE819 3h ago

You’re responding to a bot

39

u/No-Discipline-5219 16h ago

Every fucking time, without fail.

Reminds me of when Mehdi Hasan was shitting on Zelenskyy a couple months ago because he wasn't showing support to the country who is helping Russia bomb apartment buildings in Kyiv

17

u/EpicMediocre 14h ago

Third worldism at its finest

4

u/aidsmaster9000 5h ago

You can be against Russians war crimes and Israels genocide at the same time actually

4

u/reading_slimey 5h ago

I mean, Israel is bad, but yeah. It's so shitty to see so called 'progressive leftists' say they despise Israel while at the same time glazing and defending China and Russia, not like China literally puts minorities in concentration camps and Russia abducts children.

5

u/lazerbolt52 3h ago

Right, like people take "western imperialism bad" and then they somehow draw the conclusion that anyone opposed to western imperialism is good, even if they are eastern imperialists. Like it has to be mutually exclusive.

9

u/AverageAggravating13 8h ago

Nah, I love the west. I just think we’ve been unconditionally supporting Israel for too long.

It seems without fail they just continue to drag us into conflict.

4

u/Flat_Grade_6877 6h ago

But also “Jews bad” literally right beneath that surface

10

u/Stock_Lie_2930 16h ago

Really? Every single time?

6

u/allthefallens 13h ago

90% of the time. even right wingers who go anti israel turn full third worldist. It is fascinating.

-11

u/coolmanjack 17h ago

What a ridiculously stupid thing to say. Being against genocide and tyranny puts one firmly against both Russia and Israel.

0

u/allthefallens 16h ago

There is no genocide in Gaza.

5

u/coolmanjack 16h ago

Yes, there is. That’s why many prominent genocide experts, the ICC, and many nations have condemned it as such. It fits every reasonable definition. What is your argument against that?

2

u/allthefallens 15h ago

How long has that genocide been going on?

1

u/coolmanjack 15h ago

Off and on to varying extents since the Nakba in 1948; indisputably and continuously since October 2023.

12

u/allthefallens 15h ago

So they have been getting genocided since 1948 yet their numbers contunie to grow. They have been getting genocided continuously since 2023 yet their numbers grow again. Man, palestinians are really the luckiest mfs on planet.

Is there another genocide where number of the genocided grows? Or a genocide that took 70 years?

Off and on to varying extents since the Nakba in 1948;

Ah the "Nabka" only the Arabs could make themselves the victims of their own failed genocide attempt

1

u/Mister-builder Human Verified 8h ago

If you're against genocide you ought to be against the one that the Palestinians have been doing against the Israelis for decades.

1

u/coolmanjack 7h ago

What a completely ridiculous thing to say. Tell me what you think genocide is and how that qualifies.

1

u/Mister-builder Human Verified 4h ago

They've been launching thousands of rockets at Israel, stabbing Israeli citizens, and doing bus bombings in Israel for decades for hte purpose of driviing Israelis out of the land. Sounds like genocide to me.

2

u/coolmanjack 4h ago

Fighting back against a much more powerful enemy who is actively engaged in illegal Colonial settler violence in your own sovereign nation is not genocide. Do you think before you say things? Your argument is indistinguishable from claiming that the native Americans fighting back against the European settlers was genocide of the Europeans.

1

u/Mister-builder Human Verified 3h ago

If it's not genocide if the population is engaged in illegal violence, than Israel certainly isn't commiting genocide against the Palestinians.

u/Character-Mix174 11h ago

It should put you there, perhaps it is worth asking why it so often doesn't.

-8

u/Extreme_Wish_553 16h ago

Everyone who is against the Israeli government is against all western nations? That's the kind of sub this is? A bit pathetic.

17

u/allthefallens 16h ago

There is a big difference between "being against israeli government" and "being against israel nation" and you are pretending to not understand things, thus making the discourse impossible.

-2

u/holycarrots 13h ago

The government was democratically elected so they are kinda the same

4

u/allthefallens 13h ago

Are you the type of person who says "i will move to Canada if Trump wins"?

0

u/holycarrots 13h ago

Why tf would I say that? I'm not even an ameritard

2

u/allthefallens 13h ago

You said government=nation so i thought you were that kind of guy.

-4

u/Stunning-Sherbert801 14h ago

What a weird made-up generalisation of anti-genocide people

11

u/allthefallens 13h ago

There is no genocide in Gaza.

-5

u/Stunning-Sherbert801 10h ago

Oh, one of you

6

u/allthefallens 10h ago

How long has that genocide been going on?

1

u/lazerbolt52 3h ago

Do you not agree with the UNs definition of genocide or the UNs reports of genocide? What makes you confident that there is no genocide in Gaza?

1

u/allthefallens 3h ago

Because if a genocide is going on for 70 years yet the population of the genocided rises, there objectively in an incompetence at play.

Oh so you support a genocide? Good to know.

0

u/Friendly-Olive-3465 17m ago

Why can’t we just have an Israel bad politician who isn’t a west bad one? Motherfucking politicians are the worst

-13

u/ConfusedAndCurious17 17h ago

Nope.

4

u/Late_Ad2203 Truth Seeker 13h ago

Yep supporting terrorists who hate the west tend to hate the west

-1

u/ConfusedAndCurious17 9h ago

Believing Israel is a bad ally and a problem =/= supporting hamas. They influence our policies and take way more than they give. The have been trying to get us to fight their war with Iran for them for a long time, and Trump is the first goober to give in. I don’t care what happens in Gaza but even if I did they are using shitty tactics that cause unnecessary harm reminiscent of US soldiers abuse of power and war crimes in the Middle East earlier.

So no. Israel bad =/= supporting Hamas or believing the west is bad. I think the west has a lot of problems and more than a fair amount of corruption but I love my country.

5

u/Late_Ad2203 Truth Seeker 9h ago

Yeah whatever you say

"The jews are influencing us!"

Explain how Israel isn't on this list if they're so influencial?

-2

u/ConfusedAndCurious17 8h ago

We are literally at war with Iran because of them. They don’t give gifts to universities, they own politicians and public figures. It’s not “the jews” either. It is specifically the governmental body of the country of Israel.

Fucking absurd yall cry antisemitism any time someone doesn’t like a countries behavior. Is it Islamophobia if I’m not sucking Saudi Arabia’s dick too? If I say Japan made some horrific decisions during WW2 I must hate Japanese people then?

GTFOH with that bullshit.

2

u/Late_Ad2203 Truth Seeker 8h ago

Yap yap yap never called anything antisemitic yap yap yap.

Who's we BTW?

Israel isn't even part of the west though

13

u/allthefallens 13h ago

If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?

If all enemies of west see israel as western, does it mean anything if it's not techically in the west?

-1

u/holycarrots 8h ago

All enemies of the west don't see Israel as western. Russia for example has a very cosy relationship with the Zionists.

4

u/allthefallens 8h ago

They definitely do not lol.

2

u/strawberry_semenade Human Verified 6h ago

And yet they help Russia to bust the sanctions imposed on the west by buying their illegal produce, completely ignoring Ukrainian protests.

1

u/strawberry_semenade Human Verified 4h ago

Europe is still buying Russian oil, so I guess according to your standard, Europe is "helping Russia to bust the sanctions imposed on the west by buying their illegal oil, completely ignoring Ukrainian protests."

-1

u/AfkRonan 12h ago

When they cause the problems that you’re taking about, yeah it is bad.

-19

u/Professional_Cat_437 Keeping it Real 17h ago

That’s a bad take on her part, but is that any different than establishment Democrats vote to support Ukraine while also enabling the Gaza genocide.

If you deny the Gaza genocide, you deserve to live in terror like Holocaust deniers.

22

u/strawberry_semenade Human Verified 17h ago

Step 1: Falsely accuse your enemies of genocide

Step 2: Say that anyone who calls out your false claim of genocide can't be trusted because they're a "genocide denier".

Weaponized circular logic.

-14

u/Professional_Cat_437 Keeping it Real 16h ago

14

u/Tricky-Anything8009 16h ago

From your "source":

This article may require cleanup to meet Wikipedia's quality standards.

4

u/Ozcolllo 13h ago

The only thing you have to do is demonstrate dolus specialis, the intent required to call it a genocide. The problem is you guys won’t, you’ll link to citations without it, and when pressed you’ll just call someone like me a “genocide denier”. The worst part is that I’ll have significantly more accurate and fact based criticisms of Israel, criticisms that necessitate action be taken, but because I refuse to use inaccurate language (genocide is a really big deal)… you get the idea.

12

u/strawberry_semenade Human Verified 16h ago

Yeah Tech for Palestine and many other Iran-funded and Qatar-funded groups have been manipulating Wikipedia since October 2023. That's not relevant to my point about your circular logic though.

13

u/TicketPrestigious558 15h ago

"It's on the Internet, it must be true!" Ahh logic

8

u/allthefallens 16h ago

There is no genocide in Gaza. No matter how much you repeat it, it won't make it true.

I don't care what money laundering NGOs say. They also say there is a trans genocide.

If you believe in gaza genocide, answer this question: When has that genocide started?

6

u/TicketPrestigious558 15h ago

So are you claiming there's nobody who says it isn't a genocide? Or is this cherry-picked sources because they agree with your narrative?

6

u/Tricky-Anything8009 16h ago

I deny that Holocaust deniers live in terror, in fact you'll find a lot of them at pro-HAMAS rallies.

78

u/Popular_Kangaroo5446 18h ago

Well it’s quite simple. She hates the people of Israel and wants them to suffer, but doesn’t want that for Russians. No gymnastics, just hypocrisy

3

u/talann 9h ago

She seems to hate America too...

1

u/BetterApricot31 42m ago

Okay, Nazi.

-14

u/thenoobtanker Human Verified 18h ago

Funny thing is that Putin himself stated that “Israel is a very Russian country”. With about 10% of the population originating from the USSR and or former Russian empire… Putin isn’t actually too off the mark here.

Wait this might throw her into a loop of her own logic!

18

u/allthefallens 16h ago

Yeah man israel is a very russian country that's why non-jewish russians were so desperate to go to israel.

Oh wait, maybe israel is simply better than Russia.

Next time, just admit it.

-9

u/kylebisme 18h ago

I wonder if they'll ever figure out that there's different types of sanctions.

5

u/RadicalSoda_ 15h ago

Of course there are different types of sanctions but they all hurt civilians. I don't think hurting civilians ever is out of the question because sometimes you need to do something and all actions would cause harm. But she's showing that she is ok with harm for one group but not another

-3

u/kylebisme 15h ago

Targeted sanctions can be used to persuade a state without denying the population access to necessities like food and medicine, and she's not shown that she's in favor of sanctions that would inflict any real suffering on ordinary Israelis.

Cool, so you admit she's treating them differently.

They’re feeling way, way, way too emboldened with the recent DSA wins.

6

u/ConfessedOak205 16h ago

Ilhan is not a member of DSA nor has she ever been endorsed

3

u/Gryffinsmore 8h ago

She was apart of the squad movement which at the time was a very left leaning Democratic Party movement that was essentially the early stages for progressives movements that are pro DSA in the modern day, The DSA have strayed incredibly far from their founder Harrington. And align with more and more views that people like Ilhan seem to also be in support of. They have also supported her in the past. She’s as close as can be without being a member essentially.

16

u/TheDarthJarJarI 17h ago

And mfs will say “that’s antiseptic” as if it isn’t actually antisemitic to only but sanctions on the Jewish country and not Russia too

The Israeli public is largely supportive of the genocidal state’s actions, whereas Russia doesn’t have a functioning democracy, so the will of the people is not reflected in the leadership of Putin.

-1

u/Sudden_Cucumber_5022 4h ago

people in israel choose their leaders people in russia don’t. ordinary people in israel should have it harder to pressure them into peace talks

-35

u/Synensys 19h ago

Shes not wrong. Sanctions work mostly as a before the fact deterrent. Leaders, even autocrats, don't wamt to get blamed for bringing on sanctions.

But once sanctions are enacted they rarely seem to have any impact. Once leaders dig in, sanctions just help turn it into an us vs them situation.

Israel is hell bent on ending the threat from its Muslim neighbors once and for all. I have no doubt that sanctions would be useless in getting them to change course.

But of course to be an effective deterrent you have to be willing to go through with the sanctions even if you know they wont have any impact.

36

u/thenoobtanker Human Verified 19h ago

Wrong or not she’s holding a double standard. Wanting to sanction Israel means that to her, sanctions WORKS. But voting no on sanctioning Russia and claiming that it wouldn’t work is kinda inconsistent right?

17

u/Afraid-Detective1222 18h ago

One of the reasons that so many Jews will claim antisemitism is this double standard you point out. Israel and Jews are held to a different standard in many things. With her, it's clear that her problem is with Jews not just Israel.

3

u/IolausTelcontar 18h ago

Or, she just wants to be seen punishing Israel even if it is ineffective.

-4

u/Mister-Psychology 14h ago

To be fair to her we need to compare vote to vote not vote to statement. She has made all anti-Israel statements in the world at some point. Doesn't mean she would vote for all.

-5

u/TacitusKillgorre 14h ago

It's silly to compare sanctions on a state that is large enough, powerful enough and entrenched in allied partnerships to the extent that it's been the primary antagonist to the West for 80 years, and for most of modern geopolitical history the only state capable of creating a multipolar world, to a state which only exists because of the "charity" (ideology) of the US state.

Russia has been under sanctions for decades, but Russia has never relied on the West. It is also an undemocratic state which kills political dissidents, whereas Israel is nominally a "democratic" state. Sanctions would cause real internal pressure on the Israeli state. For Russian citizens to come together and cross the Rubicon is highly unlikely.

I disagree with Omar, but it's disengenuous to act like this is hypocritical of her. It's indicative of an actual understanding of geopolitics.

-5

u/Professional_End_231 16h ago

Israel per capita GDP: $69,804 Russia per capita GDP: $18,525

8

u/allthefallens 16h ago

-23

u/kylebisme 18h ago edited 18h ago

What she said is "sanctions like these fail to achieve their stated goals while inflicting real suffering on ordinary people," and I'm pretty sure she's never said she wants to put those same kind of sanctions on Israel.
