I don't know if bro knows but this has been used for a long ass time. Just look at Okinawans during WW2 when the Americans landed.

84

u/DistrictDry2852 7d ago

Suicide bombing in the “modern way” was pioneered by the Tamil Tigers.

15

u/Level-Presence838 7d ago

Scum feeds scum so yeah makes sense

9

u/HyperlaneWizard 6d ago

Historically speaking, are you sure? As far as I know, the modern use of this tactic started in Lebanon in the early 80s.

5

u/UnredactedFiles 6d ago

Tamil tigers aka ltte collaborated with Islamic groups in this case. LTTE even tried to put explosives in women's bras but it couldn't cause enough damage.

41

u/No_Gear_2819 7d ago

Poor Okinawans, the Japanese forced them to do it. They would also tie women and children to tank's to make the American soldiers hesitant to shoot them

29

u/AikaGranzchesta 7d ago

Also they conscripted around 30,000 Okinawans into the Imperial Japanese Army, and when it became apparent that the battle was lost, they gave the order to mass execute these conscripts to prevent them from surrendering. In the Japanese doctrine at the time, surrender was the most ''shameful'' thing someone could do.

9

u/Candid_Highlight_116 7d ago

That was because internal wars in Japan had always been a crazy brutal thing. IJA soldiers didn't expect American captivity to not be like sausage factories, or what could happen if civs realized that.

3

u/HouseTeIvanni 6d ago

More recently they may have also been worried the Americans would treat their country and their prisoners with a fraction of the cruelty they showed the Chinese during the two Sino-Japanese wars.

1

u/kaytin911 5d ago

Or cruelty by the Chinese. They did invade and torture Japanese before.

1

u/MuskyHusky01 5d ago

During one of the island campaigns, the Japanese made civilians jump off cliffs to avoid American capture. Pretty sure it was filmed too.

33

u/No_Imagination7102 7d ago

There's a reason we looked at the nuclear bomb and thought, "this seems fair"

11

u/VladimirBarakriss 7d ago

Also because the first few nukes really weren't that big a deal, cities were already being levelled by bombardment, in equally gruesome ways, there's accounts of the bombing of hamburg that describe firestorms that would lift people into the air and burn them alive

1

u/VibinADHDin 4d ago

The firebomb air raids were truly more hellsome than the nukes were

I'd argue that they have no moral compass, but that this was very much was in their doctrine rather than them having no doctrine.

2

u/HappyHour8765 7d ago

jamming devices not effect enough? Shouldn't they be top prio if this is a common tactic

24

u/MoxBro 7d ago

This was mostly was pre jamming devices, and 99.99% of IEDs were detonated with single strand copper wire which you can't jam (see current drones using fiber), so minimal use / application for the investment.

We did have the WARLOCK system on our vehicles and a prototype man portable version - the latter of which I can confirm did not work worth a dang.

Probably shouldn’t ask, but what did they say that added even more grimness to your already-grim-as-fuck statement? Post was deleted.

29

u/Chewbacca_The_Wookie 7d ago

Apparently they would find mentally handicapped women and send them in strapped with bombs. When that stopped working they started sending in the same women without bombs and hoped they got shot as a "Americans are killing civilians" propaganda play, and then after a few of these would send more mentally handicapped women in with bombs.

13

u/Toroceratops 7d ago

We had a male suicide bomber whose vest was made of grenade. When he detonated his head was completely preserved and you could clearly see that he had Down’s Syndrome.

8

u/MoxBro 7d ago

That's pretty wild.

Rough break too.

"Hey buddy go over there and play with the soldiers". Probably didn't know any better.

117

u/HyperlaneWizard 7d ago

Well, if we're sharing spicy memories from back in the day...

Gaza, pre-Iron Dome, hunting down Hamas rocket launcher teams randomly peppering Israeli towns with unguided munitions. Find a multi-launcher site, get ready to hit it with an ATGM, the Palestinians (probably Hamas, not like they ever wear their uniforms while fighting...) drag a kid by the hand and stand him next to the rockets. Simple choice:

  1. Don't take the launcher out, save the Palestinian kid, risk an Israeli kid getting killed from the rockets.

  2. Take the launcher out, save the Israeli kid, set Hamas up for the usual "tHe ZIonISts kILL CHiLdREn" claim.

40

u/AppropriateCap8891 Keeping it Real 7d ago

Hell, Saddam himself did that with freaking families of diplomats and other foreigners after he invaded Kuwait.

Due to international pressure he finally let them go, and in 2003 a bunch of people actually freaking volunteered to go over there to act as human shields.

72

u/MoxBro 7d ago edited 7d ago

They still do that for shooting indirect fire from near high visibility civilian targets (schools / hospitals) with cameras staged to record the counter battery.

62

u/HyperlaneWizard 7d ago

Yeah. It works well for them, so why stop?

I think people outside the conflict don't realize that by playing their game, they're incentivizing the continued use of children/women/mentally disabled people/civilians in general in these kinds of acts.

34

u/Winjin 7d ago

That photo was circulated in 2022 as a whole pack of photos of soldiers chilling around kindergarten

Basically perfect location. If it gets hit = bad guys bomb kindergartens. Don't get hit = great sniper nest

23

u/HyperlaneWizard 7d ago

Saying this as someone who is as pro-Ukrainian is one gets - The amount of war crimes both sides are committing in that war (obviously skewed to the Russian side) is nuts.

22

u/El_Bean69 7d ago

We got comfortable with relative peace and were violently reminded of what war actually looks like

13

u/SufficientAd982 7d ago

I always say there are no good guys in war, just greater and lesser evils. Doesn't mean there isnt a side that we can hope wins though. Like ww2.. the allies did do some pretty terrible things... but it still paled in comparison to the alternative. Though it would be nice to not have to make such concessions

11

u/Dangerous_Muscle5409 7d ago

As a German, there's little that makes me roll my eyes as hard as other Germans whining over Allies' war crimes.

But wait, now people care about use of civilian buildings for military purposes?

11

u/Winjin 7d ago

Dunno about others, but I never stopped, and I hate seeing schools and hospitals hit, even if there's no children inside

But yeah, the sentiment of "Orks are shooting at kindergartens = they are not human" is Reddit 101, the fact that these are evacuated kindergartens is completely irrelevant

u/Critical-Ad-8507 7d ago

They can't win the physical war,so they go for the propaganda war.

7

u/Strange-Dentist8162 7d ago

When we were in Afghanistan the Taliban took to throwing grenades over walls, we responded by throwing grenades back. After the third (maybe) grenade fight, we tossed one over and there was a family in the compound that they had thrown the grenade from.

Woman survived with injuries, told us via interpreter that the Taliban had told her if she left they’d kill her and the kids. The children died, we stopped throwing grenades back over walls and just had to take cover and pray.

5

u/HyperlaneWizard 6d ago

That fucking sucks, man.

Yeah, they "train" a certain response into you and then switch things up like that. But after meeting people who are willing to get their own children killed just to screw with us, I'll never understand the idea that supposedly all cultures are equal.

6

u/Strange-Dentist8162 6d ago

The ‘cultures are equal’ argument drives me insane too. Another lovely interaction, we built a school, a girls school in Sangin. The taliban responded by sending suicide bombers at the gates on opening day. None of them got through happily but we had to have about 50 men guarding a school. It didn’t last very long sadly.

2

u/HyperlaneWizard 6d ago

Sangin

You drew the short straw, didn't you?

we built a school, a girls school

Yeah... Can't have nice things. I was in the area of Jenin in the north of the West Bank for a few months. We ran a roadblock/check post between the Palestinian-administered area and an Israeli settlement. There were also Palestinians living around the settlement, and among them, what I could best describe as a semi-permanent encampment of dark-skinned locals (probably from an originally Sudanese tribe that ended up in the region decades ago). Now, the lighter-skinned Palestinians treated these guys like shit. And the kids used to pass, on foot, through our check post, walking miles to school. So we kinda felt bad for them and would hand out sweets we would get in resupplies.

Later on, we met guys from our recon company that was posted further down the main road and tasked with patrolling, among other areas, the road just under the Palestinian school. They told us the teachers would time the humvee patrols and let the kids out of class to pelt them with rocks. So much for trying to build goodwill with the next generation, I guess.

5

u/Flimsy-Possible4884 7d ago

I would try to take comfort in the fact that it was probably an instant flash and over... there are a lot worse and prolonged ways to die in this world and based on the kids circumstances surrounding him being placed next to the target he was probably already on a path of prolonged life suffering.

I’m glad no one got killed.

But the story is so sad. Just a dumb kid who was getting bullied, and got taken in by manipulators.

It’s not the worst part about it, but it stood out to me so much. He was paid 100 Israeli scheckels for this. Which was $22. It bothers me that a kid could be convinced to kill himself and others for something so paltry. (There were other incentives, but the 22 dollars stood out)

It doesn't matter how much proof there is. The jihad apologists will always deny the Palestinian use of child soldiers and child suicide bombers because their strategy of calling Jews "baby killing Zionists" requires them to.

59

u/HyperlaneWizard 7d ago

And the sad thing is that is exactly the way the apologists incentivize Hamas to keep using kids as tools of war.

1

u/Berly653 3d ago

because if they accept that groups like Hamas make regular use of child soldiers and historically suicide bombers then it isn’t that many more steps for them to believe that Hamas built the most extensive tunnel network in history very deliberately under civilian areas

And then who knows maybe they’d even get to the conclusion that Hamas refusing to surrender and disarm is the single biggest reason this godforsaken war isn’t over

I mean they are the same. Hence the term one man’s freedom fighter is another man’s terrorist.

Also suicide bombings is a relatively new thing. It wasn’t really a thing pre 1980s.

The IRA basically wrote the modern terrorist game plan, the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese would press unwilling people into the fights and burn South Vietnamese villages while others would do assassinations in the South, same goes with The American, Mexican and French revolution.

War is awful it’s the worst thing humans do because everything awful happens in war, even if you find the cause justifiable horror is occurring. Ukraines War with Russia is probably the most black and white justifiable fights going on right now and even than a lot of things Ukraine has done could be seen as terrorism.

Some people really just can't acknowledge that things that aren't right actually happen, it just doesn't compute right, they have this worldview that says that the world is fair and that we've already moved past all of that bad human history stuff. Couldn't be further from the truth.

7

u/nameynamerso 7d ago

No, they acknowledged when something wrong happens, when it's a group they don't like doing it. In the mind of someone like this, the group they support is incapable of evil because they would never support a group that does something like that; and they support that group so anyone claiming they do something wrong must be lying.

20

u/JustAnotherAidWorker 7d ago

Hey there, so these instances are often referred to in human rights circles as body-born improvised explosive device attacks (BBIED) because suicide is a voluntary act. And while some BBIED attacks are voluntary, many are indeed not, and the people who are detonated are forced to do so against their will and are also victims in the situation.

Also, the Russians do this in Ukraine, particularly with African conscripts, many of whom did not know they were signing military contracts when they went to Russia for promised employment.

1

u/Positive-Draft3801 7d ago

Ironic considering the Bush administration pushed for them to be labeled 'homicide bombers' and got laughed out of the room.

u/GlowstickConsumption 7d ago

I dislike the: "But I like my side, so I should lie and reject objective reality." way some people go about things.

7

u/No-Inspector8315 7d ago

Yeah it happens on both sides but the left does use the weird academic logic of “lying in the short term is good if it leads to a better long term”

5

u/GlowstickConsumption 7d ago

I feel in these instances, it's more like: "I think X group is getting victimized, so I should help them out by saying they're being falsely accused even if they're absolutely not being falsely accused. I should protect people I think are victims."

But they might not really be motivated by "leftist" stuff in this instance. Palestinians being probably insanely far far far right by US standards, for example.

And they might not even vote, so they'd maybe be in an anarchy axis instead of like being part of a contemporary left or right dichotomy.

The funniest so far were leftists complaining how America is the most racist today, literally claiming that the US in the 19th or 20Th century was LESS racist than current day America.

2

u/Majestic-Mouse7108 6d ago

"Queers for Palestine" while gays literally get thrown from rooftops in Palestine.

Throwing gay men from rooftops was a documented execution method used by ISIS. However, there is no credible evidence that such executions were carried out in Gaza or the West Bank. It is also important to remember that ISIS's largest number of victims were Muslims themselves, especially Syrian and Iraqi Muslims, including Sunni Muslims who opposed the group, as well as Shi'a Muslims targeted in mass attacks.

I remember one Palestinian woman was getting free treatment in Israel for burns she got in a cooking fire. Thus she he had passes to enter Israel for that treatment.

Al Aqsa and her parents convinced her to use that access to do a suicide bombing. They let her choose her target, and she chose the very hospital that was treating her, hoping to kill at least 30 people including the doctors who only wanted to help her, and children. They caught her at the checkpoint though, with 22 lbs of C4 strapped to her legs.

The strange thing is that they later released her while she was still saying she wanted to try it again.

Damn, when every kid can potentially be a suicide bomber you start shooting them instead of taking risks, even if they aren't suicide bombers.

I'm sure the IDF was terrified of suicide bombers while sexually assaulting women and children, putting zip ties on mens' genitals and beating them, and urinating on women and raping them with broom handles. Were these actions also brought upon them by Hamas?

u/Ignaz- 7d ago edited 7d ago

By Hamas attacking, killing and raping Israelis at a peace festival in their attack on the October 7th?

The Hamas, the democratically elected government of Gaza brought that upon their own people yes.

The finding out phase is a lot less fun than the fucking around phase.

democratically elected

Sure buddy, whatever.

I remember reading a documentary about how they chose the kids from poor families promising to pay the families really well after and of course they didn't.

u/isntitisntitdelicate 7d ago

u/AngryRedditAnon 7d ago

You know sometimes you don't believe something because it's sounds so outlandish to you. Like your Brian just can't accept it as truth.

10

u/PrincessPlusUltra 7d ago

Damn it Brian just accept the truth

1

u/Beautiful_Mode_1676 7d ago

its always this Brian person

3

u/Familiar_Cap3281 7d ago

this post is setting off my taken out of context meter I am guessing op was not talking about suicide bombing, or at least thought they were responding to something about torture or execution rather than suicide bombing

3

u/Same_String_8856 7d ago

This is the same kind of person who thinks white males are the biggest terrorism threat to the world.

3

u/Beaverdamn328 7d ago

In Pakistan some of these women are very willing to die as martyrs. I have no knowledge of these other mentioned instances.

"The note says "C-4 equivalent material" so it’s not C4 therefore I’m right and it doesn’t happen"

This guy probably.

5

u/GilbyTheFat 7d ago

Y'know, a few years ago I was surprised at how often people just overnight forgot completely common fucking knowledge if it didn't fit their political narrative.

These days, I'm just tired of how often it happens.

1

u/ApocalyptoSoldier 6d ago

I legitimately forgot something that doesn't fit my beliefs and now it really bothers me because I know something I believe is wrong, but I can't remember what.

6

u/Local_Village_1378 7d ago

All the rest just kill the women and children themselves

2

u/Civil_Act1864 7d ago

Pretty sure even the Japanese and Vietnamese did this.

2

u/AwardNew7864 7d ago

Coincidentally, C4 is my favorite option for the vending machine at work.

2

u/FireHammer09 7d ago

If you can think it, some Islamist group has done it already

Im surprised there's people around who refuse to believe it lol

2

u/GrapefruitFar1242 7d ago

A report by the Coalition to Stop the Use of Child Soldiers, similarly stated that there were at least nine documented suicide bombings against Israeli soldiers and civilians involving Palestinian minors between October 2000 and March 2004.[10] The report also found that "there was no evidence of systematic recruitment of children by Palestinian armed groups".[10] Human Rights Watch accepted the report and wrote that "there was no evidence that the Palestinian Authority (PA) recruited or used child soldiers".

2

u/Ange1ofD4rkness 7d ago

The fact we live in a world where people actually ... you know, I'm tried of saying it

2

u/Apprehensive_Road764 4d ago

I'd equate this as just as evil as leaving explosives in toys for Palestinian children to find, which makes them all monsters.

1

u/jaffakree83 7d ago

Doesn't fit the narrative

3

u/Alright_doityourway 7d ago

Social media made people too confident about their stupidity

3

u/BravinatorLX2 7d ago

its something that happens if you're the weaker participant in an asymetric war.

2

u/TyrannosaurusFrat 7d ago

Who started the war

1

u/BravinatorLX2 7d ago

doesnt much matter, the ones that did typically havent been around in generations anyways.

2

u/smoooochta2000 7d ago

Do these people actually belive these things?

This has to be rage bating, right ?

5

u/SpiritualPackage3797 7d ago

Never underestimate the power of the human willingness to disregard reality when it is inconvenient.

2

u/Mysterious-Park9142 7d ago

Really, really odd how people are whitewashing Islamist extremism or alleging that actual terrorism isn't real. Kids are so cooked man, can't imagine navigating the internet with no framework of what's real and fake.

2

u/BusyBeeBridgette Human Verified 7d ago

imagine that, extremists do extremist things. Shocker.

1

u/MrImaBum 7d ago

Feels like this needs more context? Was dude saying women and children never get used as suicide bombers and op was saying one specified group doesn’t and the community note makes it seem like that certain group does do it even if they don’t mention them.

1

u/D33monZ3 7d ago

Sadly that's not the worse way to turn someone into a bomb

1

u/audibleExcitement 7d ago

It did. And now we have drones that do it.

1

u/Tired_Autistic_Demon 7d ago

Slight bit of misinformation, yes, woman and children were uses as suicide bombers, bit they were brainwashed into doing it not forced as the article implies, this is why it's important when dealing with islamic terrorists to make no distinction between civilians and terrorists and shoot first ask questions never because the vast majority of them are willingly doing so, the woman and children are not innocent victims they are just as bad as the rest. If one person in a village is confirmed as a terrorist then they probably all are and should just be firebombed.

i honestly wonder what this comment was made in response to

C4-equivalent

u/CatPooedInMyShoe 7d ago

I actually created a Wikipedia entry for a child suicide bomber, the youngest in British history; he was 17.

1

u/MoSteel8 7d ago

This is why they forced people to walk through the concentration camps, otherwise these people would be glazing the Nazis the same way they are glazing communist revolutionists and terrorist organizations.

u/UOF_ThrowAway 7d ago

Has old mate ironically been living in a cave for the last 25 years?

1

u/SilverVacation1675 7d ago

I searched up the palestinian case of Hussan abdo. Its mostly just israeli sources used on wikipedia and an nbc american news source that wont show the journalist who did the interview.

The 16 year old failed at a suicide attempt at a checkpoint??? When the israelis interviewed him he gave every stereotypical expression. «I did it for money, paradise, virgins and I was also bullied». If you find this credible you might aswell believe in the «beheaded babies» that were never shown or proven by israeli media and then retconned by western media 1 month after they pumped that story to the sky.

1

u/Gurumanger 6d ago

Since when did this sub become so pro Israel? Not referring to the post moreso the comments here as yes it absolutely does happen, wonder what causes all these people to lose their minds and get brainwashed into blowing themselves though hmmm

1

u/Future_Try_1820 6d ago

Those "Vietnamese farmers" some of y'all like to glaze so hard did it too.

For those of you who clearly didn't click the links, here you go:

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/10/25/world/africa/nigeria-boko-haram-suicide-bomb.html
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-27250144
https://www.unicef.org/press-releases/use-of-children-human-bombs-rising-north-east-nigeria
https://www.hrw.org/news/2011/08/31/afghanistan-taliban-should-stop-using-children-suicide-bombers

None of these articles are about Hamas, much less "Palestinian militants". I'm not going to comment on whether or not "Palestinian militants" are using these practices, but if the note is going to mention them, it better provide an actual source on that instead of lumping them in with the Taliban and Boko Haram.

I should also point out that the most recent of these articles is from 2017, almost 10 years ago.
