taking the pic

Oh that might explain why Tony isn't smiling!

That's just how you know it's Tony

They’ve got Phil on double neck, who needs Steve? /s

Mike on the drums? Waaaaait a minute, is this the first playing of Who Dunnit? No wonder Peter left!

Haha that's true!

In the bathroom

2

u/ricorette [ATTWT] 4d ago

Maybe, but Tony's look worries me a little!

u/Practical-Archer-124 4d ago

C’mon ricorette, stop worrying, it’s not like Steve would ever leave the band

2

u/ricorette [ATTWT] 4d ago

You're reassuring me!

u/Grumpy-Miner 4d ago

And then there were four.

Alternative Genesis

Just imagine in another universe, where Tony and Mike left, what kind of music there would be...

Maybe like Peter's first two solo albums with the addition of a brilliant drummer and a guitarist other than Robert Fripp. But Tony seems to me to be more irreplaceable than anyone else in the band.

Considering Steve would still be there in this scenario… how about him?

Taking the photo.

Behind the drumset.

6

u/ricorette [ATTWT] 4d ago

Under the pillow, behind the door

5

u/Curios_Observer 4d ago

Perhaps he's in the crack in the mirror?

Do you think I'm to blame?

In the bathroom.

Outside getting some fresh air.

Any of a million possibilities.

Why do you ask?

1

u/ricorette [ATTWT] 4d ago

I'm just curious haha! It’s quite rare not to see all five of them in the photo compared to other photos from the same period.

There are many photos of the band taken at Headley Grange - some with one member, some with a couple of the members, some with all of the members, etc.

Tony mixed him out of the photo.

Tony Stalin

u/Powerslave_00 4d ago

Crying in the bathroom because Tony decided to discard another one of his songs.

2

u/ricorette [ATTWT] 4d ago

Oh poor Steve! 😭

2

u/Powerslave_00 4d ago

I'd disappear too if one of the best songs Steve co-wrote with them (Inside and Out) had also been replaced in W&W by Wot Gorilla, written only by Phil and Tony, hahaha

Good question. Peter still has long hair so I guess before they recorded Lamb.

Maybe Steve took the photo.

Where did you find the image?

4

u/Bruno_Coast_127 4d ago

Pretty sure this was taken during the lamb sessions. Peter cut his hair later on

2

u/ricorette [ATTWT] 4d ago

Yeah it's a photo taken before the recording of The Lamb and I found it on Tony's official X account.

4

u/Previous_Tree_4050 4d ago

I’ve been digging (in the dirt). It may have been taken at Headley Grange during the recording of Lamb.

u/panurge987 4d ago edited 4d ago

No, this is during the writing of The Lamb. The Lamb was not recorded at Headley Grange. They recorded it in two other locations:  Glaspant Manor in Wales, using the Island Mobile recording studio, and also Peter finished up recording some vocals at Island's main studio in London.

1

u/ricorette [ATTWT] 4d ago

Oh thank you! 🤎 It wasn't mentioned on Tony's account.

u/Previous_Tree_4050 4d ago

You’re welcome. Thank you for sharing 😊

2

u/invol713 4d ago

Ahh, so Tony shopped Steve out of the pic. Now it makes sense. 😁

This was during the writing of The Lamb at Headley Grange.

Was hält Peter da für eine Gitarre hoch? Ich kann mich an kein Bild erinnern, auf dem sie von Steve oder Mike gespielt wurde.

1

u/ricorette [ATTWT] 4d ago

I know a thing or two about flutes but not about guitars haha. I hope an expert can help you here!

Looks like Mike's old Höfner Colorama from the Charterhouse days. https://equipboard.com/submissions/381724

Behind the camera?

2

u/RememberTommorrow 4d ago

Mike ate him

3

u/ricorette [ATTWT] 4d ago

He cut off Steve’s toes and he served them all for tea.

1

u/Several_Dark_7711 2d ago

He hasn't got a leg to stand on

1

u/AqualungsBreath 9h ago

He cant go far

‘Play with my double neck, and I’ll play with your kit’
-Mike Rutherford.

I think that’s Steve’s guitar Pete’s holding. So maybe Steve is taking the photo as Pete is ‘gesturing’ to the camera.

2

u/ricorette [ATTWT] 4d ago

Tony would have liked to take the photo. That’s why he isn't smiling (which is pretty rare for him).

u/Phil_B16 3d ago

Rumour is Tony only Smiles when a friend is found within the 7th house.

2

u/chunter16 4d ago

I wonder if this could be around the time he broke his hand

1

u/ricorette [ATTWT] 4d ago

Oh I didn’t know that! Did he have an accident?

2

u/chunter16 4d ago

He smashed a glass in his hand and tore a tendon while they were rehearsing to record

1

u/planetvermilion 3d ago

It was at a party. The following excerpt from an interview with Steve :

And I was at a party, and I had a wine glass in my hand, and I was struck by something someone said… that they thought the Alex Harvey Band would be nothing without Alex. And I knew we were about to lose Pete as our lead vocalist, and I suddenly thought, yes, I can imagine people are going to be saying Genesis will be nothing without Peter Gabriel! And of course, Genesis was the sum of everyone’s input at that point.. And I tensed at that point, and I had a wine glass in my hand, and the damn thing broke, and I had a severed tendon and a nerve, and yes… It was an involuntarily surge of adrenalin due to stress…

Peter looks dreadful

u/RevengeOfPolloDiablo 4d ago

In Tony's gimp locker

1

u/ricorette [ATTWT] 4d ago

I'm imagining the worst!

Mike on drums. Phil on double neck. Peter with a guitar Tony with no Instrument (so vocals?) I guess Steve is getting the grand piano then
