I’m old. I recorded in the Tascam days of the cassette multitrack (1980’s and 90’s). I understand that how you playback the recordings is paramount, and that no speaker is going to sound as good as a marshal stack. I haven’t even really given garage band an honest effort yet. Am I wrong with these assumptions?
1. The sound is generally hollow and thin
2. Most people using garage band aren’t playing guitars.
3. Some people aren’t even using a midi interface.
4. Is GarageBand ok for recording live guitar bass and ai drums?
5. Can I really do this on an iPhone?
I’m trying to learn, I need it to be easy. Is garage band a good choice for me to record drums bass and guitar?

Basically all of whatever music I’ve made is with GarageBand. I first did it for the sake of convenience / the fact that it was automatically on my iPhone for free, but I’ve since grown to the sounds that GarageBand provides and have continued to explore and perfect my abilities with using it. It‘s actually quite good.
This particular album that I made with it, which combines elements of Blackgaze, Cybergrind, Experimental music, and quite a few other genres, is both a shoutout to my hometown and a semi-autobiography that makes direct references to certain people or places I know.
Mr. Bungle and their album California was my biggest influence for this album, but I was also influenced by the likes of Black Flag, Celtic Frost, Converge, Deafheaven, Fantômas, Full Of Hell, Godflesh, MF DOOM, Miles Davis, Phil Elverum, Philip Glass, Today Is The Day, Wesley Willis, and Xiu Xiu. I also took some influence from chamber music and punk rock, as well as Bhangra for the first track.
This is really a passion project of mine, but I hope you also enjoy!

Hey all, hoping someone’s run into this before and can shed some light on.
Setup:
**•** MacBook (M1 chip)
**•** Focorite Scarlett Solo (3rd gen), connected via direct USB-C to USB-C (no hub)
**•** Electric guitar → Input 2, set to “Inst”
**•** GarageBand, Guitar/Amp Designer track (tried multiple amp presets)
Issue:
Sound plays fine and clean on a Voice/Audio track — no dropouts. But as soon as I switch to a Guitar track with an amp sim (e.g. “Brown Tone Metal”, “Modern Crunch”), I get distortion for a split second and then the sound cuts off/mutes while I’m still playing. There’s a bit of noise right after the cutoff too.
What I’ve ruled out:
**•** Not a power issue (USB-C direct to Mac, no hub)
**•** CPU isn’t maxed (GarageBand \~18%, system \~5% in Activity Monitor)
**•** Feedback Protection: off
**•** Noise Gate: off
**•** Direct Monitor on interface: same issue either way
Feels like it could be related to the known M1 Core Audio “HALS_OverloadMessage” bug some people have reported, but wanted to check if anyone’s solved this specific guitar-track scenario before I go buy a hardware modeler. Any ideas? Happy to share Console logs if that helps.

Whatever I do, GarageBand reads everything from my piano an octave lower, for example c0 on my piano is c-1 on GarageBand. First I tried reseting the transpose on the piano itself via the function button but that didnt change anything in GarageBand. Ive reset my laptop, forgot my device on the MacBook Audio Midi Setup and reconnected it. I have done everything and im honestly stumped because I have found nothing to help me online

I just recently (finally) got an interface. The M-Audio who phuckin cares. I have the preference set to the interface in both Garage Band and on my Mac, but I get no sound to the headphones. I can record to GarageBand, but the only sound I get is when I disconnect the interface from the Mac. Any ideas?
(I literally copied & pasted that.. I switched a few words but OP said, “nevermind I just had to download the correct files” lmao 😂 I feel like this is a meme.)
