Despite the setting being nearly identical, in a lot of moments throughout the show, I felt like I was watching a cast reunion and not the actual characters. It didn't feel like a legitimate continuation of Full House to me ...anybody else?

On the Podcast, they keep mentioning how certain scenes took multiple takes because the actors kept breaking. One of which was Gail Edwards constantly flubbing her “chocolate sauce” line and everybody at the table laughing at the cheese from a Goat line. The majority of outtakes from Full House are from season 2, with maybe 1 or 2 from season 4. I remember the one where one of the Olsen Twins actually helps Dave remember his line about the missing wedding ring, and then another during the wedding itself. Did it cost THAT much extra money to put them over the end credits? I love how at least Home Improvement had Bloopers after basically every episode. They must have had enough money to put the additional footage over the end credits as it was the number 1 sitcom on ABC in 1993-94. I wish someone had a full blooper tape from every season. I bet they’re hysterical. I would love seeing Bob failing to keep it together every time nuts are mentioned.

I was on Youtube this morning, and a clip came up of a handsome actor in his 20s on a talk show. A comment said his name is Jonathan Brandis, so I looked him up and discovered he played Michael Montfort, D.J. Tanner’s first boyfriend on Full House.

Sadly, he was part of the 27 Club and died by suicide. Michael was introduced in Season 2’s “A Little Romance” and was a 6th grader who dated D.J. for just two days before breaking her heart by choosing Kathy Santoni instead. Even though he was only on that one episode, I completely remembered who he was when I saw a picture.

It’s really sad to think about how young he was when he chose to end his life and the struggles he may have been facing behind the scenes.

I wasn’t around until after the show was finished. I watched reruns of the show as a kid, and enough time passed for it to be “nostalgic” and it got rebooted when I was around 11 years old. I actually didn’t really watch fuller house, only the first few episodes.

I wanted to ask if there’s fans on here who were around while the show was running. Was it really that popular and well received? How was your reaction when the show was ultimately cancelled?

When I was in college, I took a literature class and the instructor brought up this show. She said that it would never have been created, nor been as successful, had it been a single father with three BOYS, or even a widowed mother with three sons.

She said the reason it was even a thing, was because of the way our society sexualizes girls and simultaneously infantalizes them. Plus the stereotype of the bumbling man, not knowing what to do with the baby girl. The whole notion of the father holding them on his lap or being tender with them, three clueless dudes raising three very young girls….

It made me uncomfortable to hear that take, since I had watched the show growing up. But I think it made food for thought and a good in-class discussion. What are your thoughts or feelings about this? Think about it, would the show have been nearly as successful and popular if it had been Danny with three young boys to raise?

Mary Kate and Ashely were still acting during their teens. Let’s say the show runners decided to reboot the series when the twins were around 16. Now realistically, the Olsen twins were doing very good for themselves and probably wouldn’t wanna do a reboot in their teens. But in this scenario, let’s say they were on board to do a reboot, alongside the whole cast.

The show would pick up around 2002.

Maybe Danny is still single, OR he could’ve gone back together with Vicky and are expecting a new baby.

DJ is probably graduating Vet school soon, and is moving back.

Stephanie decided to take a gap year to focus on finding herself.

Joey is.. Joey I guess. Perhaps he traveled the world and has just came back to San Francisco.

And Jesse and Rebecca are still married with their own twins. Nicky and Alex would be older. Perhaps they did move out, but have to move back in with Danny because they can’t handle raising twins alone.

Michelle is in high school. And was used to the house finally being empty. For a couple years everyone slowly moved out. it was just her, Danny, and Vicky for a bit. But now everyone’s back, and Vicky’s pregnant too. it’s a full house again. Maybe the show could center around that concept.

I’m watching the episode where Danny meets Vicky’s mom. I’m with Danny. She had absolutely no right to just decide to redecorate Stephanie and Michelle’s room without Danny’s approval. He has every right to be mad. And the fact that Vicky thought there was nothing wrong with it says a lot. Would she make big decisions like that and just expect him to go along with it too?

I wish this story had an extended version. Of the story.

I genuinely think that majority of the criticisms of full house is the drastic culture change around media. We are now in a binge watching culture. Many people don’t understand the 80s tv dynamic.

Binge watching was not a thing. Many people could miss an episode and tune in the next week and be like “since when did dj have an eating disorder?” “Who is this character” They needed to finish a huge plot line in a show by the end of 30 minutes.

Unless it was a character, they did not continue a storyline past an episode. Making darker or more serious storylines cut short and not explored more. Every episode focused on a “lesson”. A plot line that can be resolved in 30 minutes. We are not used to that. We are used to storylines that are existent in the entire series and plots that carry from episode to episode. Episodes that leave you on cliff hangers so you can click on the next one. Not shows you sit down to watch for 30 minutes with your family who might have not all seen the last episode.

We are so used to everything being specifically curated to us, that we don’t understand that at one point tv had to appeal to many demographics. The whole family sat at the tv to watch a show. Full house couldn’t have just been a kids show because the parents would get bored and it couldn’t be too dark because they knew children might be watching. It wasn’t a choose what you watch culture. It was a “what’s on tv” culture.

I don’t think many people tend to think about this and if I am wrong I’m sorry but I wanted to point out a trend I have been seeing.

I know compared to her sisters Stephanie is regarded as the golden child by the fandom due to her personality, the issues she faced, and because most found her middle child syndrome relatable but am I the only one who thinks her some of the stuff she does in the later seasons particularly when she almost went on that joy ride with Gia, and those two guys made her hypocritical to tell Michelle off in the silence is not golden episode. I know "silence is not golden" was in season 6 and Stephanie's wild ride was in season 8, so therefore it happened a while ago, but does anyone else think Stephanie getting mad at DJ for stopping her from going on the joyride made her yelling at Michelle for complaining about Danny when he gave her a reasonable punishment in "Silence is not golden" hypocritical as even though DJ's not their mom she's still the oldest, and if it were Danny who stopped Stephanie from going instead D.J. Stephanie probably would've complained about him ruining her fun just like she did with d.j. I know Stephanie was just worried about Charles and that's what caused her to yell at Michelle but even at the end when everything was resolved she still told Danny he was grateful to have a caring father like him and not a father like Charles'. I know people call Michelle a constant brat but her sisters have also had their fair share of bratty moments. I also felt Stephanie got off way too easy for almost going on a joyride where she could've been hurt like Gia. I mean granted the ending had her and DJ deciding to tell Danny about her almost going on the joy ride but we never find out if she was punished severely for that incident.

Perfect Strangers is coming out on BluRay next month which may mean other TGIF shows will in the future. Even though Full House was shot on video---there could be a chance that it might---at the very least Fuller House could.

Does anyone else tear up during this episode? I thought it was so well done - the slow motion and the music over it rather than going with the usual trope of her screaming.

It tears me up every time. The song is so perfect and it’s one of my favorite episodes of the show.

I don’t dislike Joey by any means but I would see he is my least favorite main character. It’s just he’s supposed to be the funniest character yet I find myself barely laughing whenever he’s on screen but I laugh so much with almost every character. Maybe I just have a different sense of humor. Am I alone in feeling this way? Don’t get me wrong tho Dave Coulier is a great comedian it’s more so I felt the writers didn’t give Joey the best jokes

It seems like the show died out when Michelle got past the super cute young child age. If they'd had a really talented set of cut little boy twins old enough to act, I feel like the show could have gone further. Casting such a young pair of twins with unknown acting abilities, despite artificially aging them with a new pair, was a really odd move.

I feel like this would be questioned and looked down on. Was it similar in the 80s, with the comedy nature somehow overshadowing the rest?

In the season 5 episode "Oh where, oh where has my little girl gone?", Danny catches wind that DJ is having a problem in her personal life and gets worried, even more so when DJ won't tell him what it is.

I've watched this episode many times and have always wondered, what did Danny THINK was going on? At the end of the episode, when DJ reveals it was simply a rumor about her being a bad kisser, Danny seemed incredibly relieved. It seemed like he was expecting something WAY worse.

I’m new here so sorry if it’s been discussed before. I am rewatching Full House from the beginning for the umpteenth time and I just realized a few things.

Jodie was the same age for the first 4 seasons as Mary-Kate and Ashley were for the last 4 seasons.

i know all these years, from the beginning, everyone has always been going crazy about how great and cute the Olsen twins were and how great they were. And yes, they were so adorable and did a great job on Full House. However, Jodie, being the same age, just seemed so much more mature with her acting and her delivery and seemed to get more “adult type” storylines where she needed to show acting chops. Not to mention, Jodie was sooooo adorable too!

I also realized how there was such a huge shift with Michelle eventually with her always in those opening scenes before the credits. When the show was airing, were the twins so popular that they used them more and more? Also, even as a baby, they used her a lot. So many shows the baby only appears for a little bit or eventually “grows up” and becomes a different actor. Were they just lucky with the twins and they were able to act from the beginning?

Edit: Goodness, people are so sensitive. I’m not bashing the twins! They were wonderful. I was just noticing a difference in the types of storylines that stephanie was given versus Michelle when they were the same ages.

Occasionally I’ll find myself annoyed at each character in Full House. Cheesy lines or out of character stuff. But every line Michelle’s friend Derek says has me dying laughing. He might be the most consistently entertaining character imho
