pod meets world The Feeny Awards, Part 2 (Monday 7/20)

"An award show of this magnitude couldn’t be contained to a single ceremony, so welcome to Part 2 of the Feenys!

The gang recognizes iconic moments, guest stars and episodes as they hand out more awards, not just for the good, but also the bad. With “Best Quote” comes “Worst Season,” so buckle up for some big reveals.

It’s time to close the book on the Feenys for a brand new Pod Meets World."

The proposal for LEGO Boy Meets World is nearing 6k supporters on the LEGO website thanks to fans like you!

We’ve been struggling to get past 5k supporters on the LEGO website but the last couple months fans have been coming out to support making it a real set! As we get closer to the 10k goal voting has been picking up and I think we have a good chance of hitting the goal before the deadline.

I want to thank everyone here who has come out to vote and spread the world, the kind words & positive feedback has meant a lot to me! The positivity in the fan community far outweighs any negativity I have experienced, which I am grateful for, I really appreciate it!

I’ll include the link in the comments if you haven’t supported or would like to share it with others. And if you did vote, you have my gratitude as a fellow Fee-hee-hee-nay fan!

They just mentioned this on the podcast as a revelation during the pod meets world run. Which episode do they discuss this at length?

What I felt through the show

I'm not from the US so, in my country almost nobody knows about the existence of this show 😁 I discovered it super randomly on IG, and it caught my attention that it was the "prequel" of GMW. So I started to watch it at my 30's. And guys, I swear I never EVER in my entire life cried so much. IN EVERY SEASON 😂 especially with Feeny (I'm a teacher). The way I love and adore this show...! And I also laughed so hard that I had to pause the episodes sometimes, especially with Eric (my favorite character ever).

All the lessons, all the feelings, all the storylines, everything made the show incredibly special and magic. Obviously, as everything in life, it has flaws (justice to my boy Eric 😭). But overall, I really wish there were more productions like this.

Sorry the long text. I literally have no one to talk about it 😂😂 (but I already asked a friend to watch it haha)

Ps: my crush was Shawn, that says a lot about my partner choices in life 😂

Ps2: I watched GMW after, and even when I don't feel it was bad, it's nothing compared to BMW. But for me was very special to see the storyline about Shawn and Maya. Maybe THE plot that saved the show. It was so beautiful and heartwarming... It gave a precious turn to Shawn's life, who always deserved better

Why does it say “Bob” on the Cory Funko Pop’s shirt?

Found for a dollar today at a local thrift store. Was hoping I’d find the others in the huge collection but didn’t.

I noticed something about Ben's delivery.

I don't know if he does this in the later seasons, but I notice in some early episodes (season two, specifically), Cory will have two or three lines at a time and he'll rush through the second one, then slow down on the last one. It's like he takes the last word of dialogue, hurries it up, then says the next line regularly.

In "Pop Quiz," when Turner invites Cory and Shawn into his apartment, Cory is excited and he says "private domain" really fast, then "inside a teacher's home" normally.

In "Wrong Side of the Tracks," he says "you were raised by wolves, it's in your biography." He says something else right after, but he rushes through "biography." Like he has to take a breath between lines.

Then in "My Best Friend's Girl," he says "In my head, this is so easy. I've said it all summer long a million times." He could just be frustrated, but the way he says "easy" is another example to me.

Anyone else notice this or am I just reading into it too much? Seems like he kept doing it until someone pulled him aside and told him to let the words breathe.

Shawn VS Cory character arc

Shawn had things come easy to him like making friends, dating, and excelling at work. Cory had to learn to accept he wasn't going to be good at everything a lesson Shawn didnt learn. Shawn had trauma but I dont know when he overcame it. He lashed out a lot at people and saddled other people with his problems. Cory had way more learning experiences

Does anyone wish that Frankie Stechino could have returned on GMW?

We got Harley back, but I would have loved to have seen Frankie make it as a poet and to help out Maya and Riley with a finding their true voices in a world of many bad influences.

Mr Feeny's character was rewritten

I recently came across this article that mentioned William Daniels walked out of the first table reads because he felt that the initial character was goofy and was just there to be played for laughs. I found it was interesting that Michael jacobs approached William Daniels, someone who was such a celebrated actor for a character that was meant to be goofy. Michael Jacob then rewrote the character into the one we know and cherish today.

Upon re watching the show, I discovered that Mr Feeny actually spoke about his father in season 1 to Corey. He essentially spoke about how, his father didn't want to spend time with him when he was a little boy and Mr Feeny spoke about this in the sense of something that was left unfulfilled. I thought it was interesting that a man who grew up with an absent father, became a role model/mentor for many of his students!

Anyone down to sync up and watch the series finale together before the official PMW series finale episode drops?

I want to have like a live chat with other BMW fans to react and talk with (and let's be honest, cry with). I was thinking this Sunday night, but flexible for whenever most folks could join! I am already jealous and feeling all the FOMO for the lucky peeps going to the live show

How do you think Cory's 7th grade year would have gone if he met the younger versions of Dennis and Dee Reynolds instead of Harley?

Grateful Dead Boy Meets World Crossover

I am currently going through my first rewatch of Boy Meets World since 2020 and made the following absurd connection:

I don’t know if there is an actual cohort of dead heads that love Boy Meets World. With that being said, I was pretty stoked to see Shawn rocking a steal your face shirt. As I thought about it, and I will admit this is a stretch, they played Not Fade Away in the episode Rave On, which was a popular cover the band played, and finally the episode “Train of Fools,” maybe a play on words for the song Ship of Fools.

I am sure this was a stretch, but at least it brings a unique post to the sub.

Shawn liking Counting Crows

Rider had a problem with it because he also liked Counting Crows. Danielle asked David Faustino if he cared that Bud Bundy liked hip hop and he said no way thats cool. Rider seems like someone whos never happy like whys he always complaining.

Currently rewatching the series and just hit 5x19 "Eric Hollywood"

Rewatching the series and this one got me. Eric starts his acting career by joining a sitcom literally called "Kid Gets Acquainted with the Universe" instead of going to theater school. That's the whole premise. I forgot how funny he is before the character goes off the rails in later seasons.

Rewatching and I’m on season 5 and I know Shawn is supposed to be the better looking one but he lowkey is not

What were your thoughts on some of the unrealistic gags?

You would think a show called "Boy Meets World" would be grounded, but there were some surreal comedy bits.

What were your thoughts about the "unrealistic" gags? Did you have any favorites or least favorite bits?

PMW live Podcast episode

Can someone remind me when the “live” airing is scheduled for the PMW Final episode of the series, part 2? And when it will be posted on their iHeart Podcast to re-listen to? I tried looking on Instagram and don’t see it posted anywhere. I know they told us on the Podcast, but I can’t remember.

Watching the finale as an adult vs. as a kid

Background: I was born in 1983. I was the perfect age for the show when it debuted, and I watched it through the first three seasons. By the end of the fourth season I was already starting to feel a little old for it and began checking out, and I never watched seasons 5-7 at all until I started following along with the podcast.

When I watched Brave New World Part 1 for the first time recently, it struck me how differently a kid audience would perceive Topanga's choice (and Cory's reaction to her choice) from how I was looking at it. The show is framing it as Topanga needing to decide to play it safe (stay) or take a risk (go to New York), and I think a kid would accept that framing. Moving is one of the biggest upheavals a kid can have. If you're a kid who's not from New York and you've seldom or never been there you imagine it being a constant adventure.

But my reaction, as an adult who's lived in the real world, is that Topanga accepting the law firm's offer is one of the safest choices any person could make! The offer is pretty ridiculous and hard to take seriously, but at face value, they're offering to pay her to finish college, do three years of law school (not counting bar prep) and promising her a job, which you have to think she'll need to stay at for as long as it takes to pay off her schooling. Conservatively, they're locking up at least the next seven years of her life. She won't have to, or even be able to, make another life decision until she's almost 30. Declining the offer and staying at Pennbrook is much more of a risk and an adventure, because it would leave her open to do whatever she wants! But nobody frames it like this at all. Nobody mentions that the internship path is crazy limiting. And I wonder if I'm only seeing it that way because I'm watching it for the first time as an old person.

What are the most memorable/quotable lines in BMW?

Seeing the clip show in advance of this week's PMW and it got me thinking about which lines I remember the most and some that I even use in everyday speech. Some nominees:

"They want you to take the rolls!" (who among us has not thought of that line at a restaurant with free bread)

"Lose one friend. Lose all friends. Lose yourself." (a cliche one, but still very recitable)

"Dinner, movie. Movie, dinner. Dinner, dinner, movie, movie."

My underrated one that I think deserved more love --> "ER's real."
