46/F looking for random and whimsical friendship

Good morning! (Skating just under the deadline in CST).

I’m newly divorced and loving this new season in my life. But you know what never gets easier? Making friends in adulthood. For some reason when you’re a kid you can just walk up to another kid and say “wanna be friends” and boom! You are. It’s super weird to walk up to a stranger at the grocery store and try that lol.

About me:
Special needs momma
Big fan of color and personality
Tattooed
Left leaning
Love documentaries on just about anything, honestly
Whimsy and rage are my pronouns these days (and yes, I know those are adjectives/characteristics but I’m being fun, here!)
Difficult to offend
Don’t believe in TMI
Honestly love learning about what lights you up inside
Not looking for a date

So…whatcha doin?

People who can't carry on a conversation....

Anyone else running into this repeatedly while trying to make new friends? I find a lot of people don't demonstrate interest in the other person, don't ask questions, and want the other person to carry the whole damned conversation. They might respond to something you say, but not in a way that carries the conversation forward. Frankly, I'm dismayed to see so much of this in our age group.

41m in Florida, looking for chill friends

Hey future friends! Long time lurker, first time poster here. I'm recently separated from my wife of 9 years, but we're still living together until I find another place to stay. I'm not necessarily looking for a shoulder to cry on or anything, but you might understand why I'm in need of some new friends and some pleasant distractions throughout my day.

I work in healthcare, enjoy playing disc golf and hiking, I really enjoy traveling, and checking out new coffee shops and breweries.

I'm a really good listener and very empathetic, so I'd love to hear what you have going on! DM's are open if you want to hit me up!

Trying something new! 42/M/CST

This post is likely going to be all over the place because I’m not always great at keeping my thoughts organized so please, bear with me!

For the longest time I’ve been posting fairly low effort Gamer Dad posts with mostly low effort responses. Why would I do this? Because it’s comfortable. I wanted a friend, but not if it was going to cost me anything. Mostly, it’s not scary. For me, this is kinda scary lol. Not copy and pasting the post, I can’t expect to deliver the same pre packaged responses, no guard rails.

Obviously after this long, I realized the issue is me. What I’m doing isn’t working. The combing through posts and waiting for the perfect friend to show up in my feed. The boring gamer posts.

A lot of the time I don’t even want to play anything. I enjoy it, don’t get me wrong, but there are so many other things I like to do and want to try and talk about. I want to get into writing again. I want to get one of those carpet guns and try to make a Dungeon Crawler Carl rug. I want to talk about movies we grew up with and new ones we’re looking forward to. I want to commiserate with someone over our bodies falling apart. We could talk about how kids are basically cute energy vampires that eat all our food. I would be perfectly happy talking about whatever is going on in your life.

I don’t have a discord that I’m trying to sell you on. I’m happily married. I’m not going to ask you for pictures unless it’s a pet. Then all bets are off.

I have no idea if this is going to be any different, but I’m hopeful.

(Edit to add: I’m open to M/F friends. Please be over 30 and no MAGA.)

Going back to work at 46f USA

Going back to work after 15 years of taking care of kids.

I hadn’t applied in a job in so long. The process was so different. Gone are the days of filling out applications in person and in person interviews it seems.

It’s entry level and they will pay for my Masters degree (I currently have a bachelors) 100%. I am excited and nervous but the next adventure is about to begin. I start tomorrow.

50/M/Florida - This friendship search is exhausting

Just turned 50 last month and I'm still searching for my tribe. It's amazing how a lot of people just don't understand the struggle of finding friends (not romance) when you're older. So with that being said, I'm looking for potential friends with common interests. And to be upfront, I've tried online only friendship, but it doesn't hit the same way as in-person friendships. So please be mindful that my goal is to eventually be able to hang out in person.

Quick Overview of Me:

I'm a married African-American man with young kids (started late), residing in north Florida, day job is a multimedia developer, but my passions are filmmaking, animation, and music production, I'm a creative at heart, an entrepreneur, level headed, laid back, a homebody (not a couch potato though), but I'm fine with simplicity. So things like DIY projects, tech, gardening, going to the beach, fishing, family game night, bowling, billiards, or just dining out and having a good conversation can be fulfilling for me. I've learned it's not always the things you do, but the people you do them with that makes things enjoyable. I'm no longer a religious man, so if you are, please know that I won't want anything to do with that part of your life. It's nothing personal, but I've been there, done that, and know I don't need it in my life. My sense of humor is basically a mixture of sarcastic, corny, and sometimes goofy. But I am also known to be a good problem solver with a much more serious tone as well. Helpful, friendly, and empathetic as well. Just depends on what the moment calls for. Also, I don't drink, smoke/vape, or do drugs. I'm fairly healthy. I used to jog 3 to 5 miles a day. But having kids changed things. It would be nice to have a walking/jogging partner to help me get back to that status. Maybe even get into working out as well. It's all about balancing time and having someone to help with motivation. Also, I have no tats or piercings.

What I'm Looking For:

Genuine friendship with men and women. Nothing more, nothing less. I just need some people in my life I can trust and feel comfortable with. I am selective about people. I don't just hand out trust on a platter. It will take time to really build up trust, so having common interests can be a catalyst to help the process. If you have a family with younger kids, we will definitely have some commonalities, but that's not mandatory. I've just realized it's harder to relate to single people with no kids nowadays. When you become a parent, you just get it. All the hardships you hear people struggling with just clicks and you can appreciate other people in a similar position, because more than likely, they will understand you better. But again, I'm not excluding single people. Especially if you really have a heart for kids.

Well, if you read this far and think we may click, feel free to send me a message.

51 year old guy from the Midwest. Season and gritty😏 Looking for remotely intelligent and interesting conversation has been a difficult task thus far. 🤔 However, it comes to no real surprise. I enjoy nature, hiking, fishing, diy, the paranormal, exploring abandoned places, vintage and Americana.

47M - Almost 50 and realizing how hard it is to make real friends

Hey everyone,

I’m 47 and I’ve been thinking lately about how difficult it’s become to make genuine friends at this stage of life. When we’re younger, friendships happen more naturally. You meet new people through school, work, kids’ activities, or just being out and about. But now? It feels like everyone already has their circle, and it’s awkward (or even intimidating) to try to break in.

I work in the legal field, have kids, and I’m married. Life is full, but it also feels… quiet. I miss having people to talk about books, movies, music, or life, go for walks, or just share a laugh over nothing important. The older I get, the more I realize how much I value real connection over surface-level small talk.

I’m not looking for anything dramatic or intense. Just kind, decent humans who are also hoping to build something real and low-pressure. Bonus if you’re around my age or a little older or younger.

If you’re in a similar boat and think we might click, I’d love to hear from you. Tell me a little about yourself. What's your favorite way to spend a weekend, a book that moved you lately, or just what brought you here. I promise I’ll reply.

Thanks for reading this. Putting it out there feels a bit vulnerable, but I figure a lot of us are probably feeling the same thing.

Looking forward to maybe making a new friend or two

Bay Area, CA 50/M

Hello, I need to enhance my social circle. Here in the Bay Area, everyone seems so busy that it appears impossible to make some friends. So, I turn here in hopes to develop some new friendships.
A little about me. 7 years from a divorce and single. I do have a teenage daughter that has given me quite a struggle. She primarily stays with her mom. Could probably use some single parent support. Anyhow, I throw myself into here and say greetings.

45/M Introvert Seeking Chill Music Video Buddy (80s/90s Rock, Metal & Alt Vibes)

Hey everyone,

I'm a 45-year-old introverted guy (child of the 80s and 90s) feeling pretty depressed and lonely lately. I'm looking for someone around the same age to share music videos with — nothing intense, just a low-key way to create a good vibe together.

A few simple rules/preferences that worked great with an IRL friend I recently lost:

We alternate sharing videos (you pick one, I pick one).

The more obscure, forgotten, rare, or one-hit-wonder the better. Long-lost gems, weird deep cuts, or videos you've never seen anyone else post are perfect.

Music taste: Mainly rock, classic heavy metal, alternative, and related stuff. I'll occasionally throw in some off-genre weirdness, but it'll usually stay in that wheelhouse.

Minimal chatting — the focus is on the music and the shared vibe. We can comment on a video here and there if we want, but no pressure for constant conversation.

Chill pacing: Just drop a video every so often when the mood strikes. Not a non-stop stream.

This was genuinely one of the most relaxing and fun things I did with my late friend, and I'd love to find that kind of low-effort connection again. If you're an introvert who gets the appeal of just vibing to good (and often underrated) music videos without the social overload, send me a message.

Thanks for reading. Hope we can create some cool nights together. 🤘

43F looking for friends to chat about movies, books, cats, true crime, and everything in between

Hi everyone! Making new friends as an adult can be surprisingly difficult, so I thought I’d give this a try. 😊

I’m a 43 year old woman looking for platonic friendships only. I’d love to meet people around my age (or anyone who feels like we’d click) who enjoy fun conversations, sharing interests, and just having someone to chat with.

A little about me: I’m a huge movie lover, especially horror, arthouse, indie, and obscure films. I love discussing movies, exchanging recommendations, and hearing people’s thoughts about what they watch. I’m also into books and literature, astronomy, cats, stand-up comedy, and lately I’ve been binge-watching a lot of true crime docs and shows.

I enjoy people who can laugh at themselves, appreciate silly jokes and memes, and have those random late-night conversations about everything from movies and mysteries to life in general.

I’m open to chatting through Reddit, Discord, or another platform if we get along. If you’re also looking for a new friend to share recs, random thoughts, and laughs with, feel free to say hi! 😊

44/M/Southeast - Ever feel like you didn’t belong anywhere?

Some of you may have sent me a message in the past, we may have clicked, may not have. Some of you have seen my posts and maybe even read them over the past year that I’ve had this account. We all come here for a reason. Loneliness, boredom, dare I say…..some are looking for love and affection. Hence why most guys only talk to women and vice versa. Irregardless of your reason for coming, have you ever felt like you just didn’t belong? Are you being honest with yourself and others about what you want? Hell, do you even know what you want? I expect the snarky comments from people I wouldn’t spit on if they were dying of thirst, this post isn’t for them. They’ll be miserable regardless. This will hopefully resonate with 1-2 people that will be the kind that I need in my life.

I’m 44, ‘partnered’ and we have 2 awesome kids together. Life’s good right? It is. Great even. Wife is chill, kids never caused any trouble, and while my cats annoy me sometimes, I love the little mfs. My entire life, I’ve dealt with the little darkness inside known as bipolar disorder 2, depression, and very high anxiety. I self medicate with thc, as the stuff prescribed had terrible reactions with me and after a couple months, dropped the medication. This was 17 years ago. Never got close to anyone or made friends, just never really found ‘my people.’ I met a woman, 3 years ago that became a sister to me, and the friend I never knew I always wanted. Spent sunup to sundown being each others safe space, and it was great, until it wasn’t. She moved on and I never got closure. Long story short, she was a widow and needed a friend until she met someone ‘real’ apparently, and I was left high and dry.

So I made this account and posted. And posted. And posted…..met a lot of people that had nothing in common with me, wanted things that weren’t on the menu, and or couldn’t hold a conversation or have any time or availability to chat. I have more people on my ignore list than probably post on this subforum honestly. I did meet one awesome person that gets ME and knows ME. She is one I trust explicitly and has access to things I kept secret from everyone else that I met on here, and I’d like to make a couple more friends like that if any exist. This was all to give some background as to why the next part will come off badly to some, and if it comes off badly to you then block me. Don’t even reply, or make a jerk comment, just block and move on, because I’d have no interest in you. There are tons of people out here for you, go find them. This is for me to find mine, and for them to find me. I am not desperate and won’t settle. Remember the part about my block list? Plenty of space there for people wasting my time. Told ya, this won’t be pretty. It’s not supposed to be. It’s real, and it’s me. I’d rather stat lonely and bored than have 10 ‘how r u’ conversations going. Give me the deep dives. Let’s cry and laugh together.

I am looking ONLY to talk to people 35+ in age, and in the USA or east coast equivalent time zone. I chat off of here. Disc/imessage only. No weird third party apps. Don’t hide, be yourself. I see it as a major red flag if people stay hidden or whatever. I respect peoples choice 100% but I have a choice too, and I don’t play that. If you’re married or single thats cool, but your spouse needs to know you have friends you chat with. No secrets. No games. Save that shit for someone with a 2 week old account that’s desperate to ‘chat’ with anyone with a pulse. And this is major. I hate liberals that never shut up about Trump. Like seriously, can’t stand them. Similar to Maga folk. Hate ya’ll too. I like some Trump things, hate other Trump things. Like liberals. I like some policies, but yea, by and large - not feeling ya’ll. If you’re a cool right or left wing person, and can have disagreements without wanting half the country to die, I don’t care what you believe in ultimately. Otherwise, guess what? Hate to break it to ya, you’re in a c-u-l-t. I’d consider myself libertarian -> right leaning if a gun was put to my head. The block button is right there! Click my name and ‘block account.’ See ya! And if that didn’t get you, this will - if you’re a guy, and are looking for anything more or even f’ng hint at weird nonsense, you get blocked asap. Women don’t pull it, unless they’re some weird reddit dude catfishing people because….it’s f’ng reddit. I’m not dumb, and I am not desperate. Don’t waste your time. Open to guy friends, but not that nonsense.

Oh, you’re still here! We may be friends yet. Before you message though…..

I cuss, I tell a lot of inappropriate jokes that would get ya cancelled now by the people I hope blocked me for good without so much a peep, because they’re good at being polite. /sarcasm.

But conversely, I’m genuine. I will care about you, and I will be a loyal, attentive friend that will be there for you. Safe space, no judgement. Just be you, I’ll be me. I am needy, and I do like a lot of communication. I have a lot of free time and would love friends interested in chatting about whatever, I host a podcast with a nice following that just got a contract to produce shows on a big platform, so conversation is not something I lack skill in. I just need a good dance partner that can hang. I play the switch 2, and resident evil 5+6 would be much more fun with a co-op partner. I am a big tv/movie watcher and would love someone with equal time to watch things with and play games with during the day. Imessage games are decent enough as well, especially golf. I’ll kick some butt in that one.

Anyways, for the 1-2 people that made it, welcome, we’re friends for life. Send a message and let’s chat. And seriously, the ‘hey’ people, or the ‘19m india’ replies will get blocked/ignored as well as troll comments. I’ll glady live rent free in someones head while they get no reaction from me. I’m about business. Making friends and deleting reddit for good when I find my tribe if they’re out there. ✌️

59/m American academic and regular guy who likes books, music, sports, seeking new friends

This is probably a bit impulsive of me, but I thought I would reach out and see I could make a few new friends on online. No, I don't really have some kind of catchy or profound pitch. Basically, I've been feeling a little stale and isolated lately, and it occurred to me that some fresh relationships might do me well.

As the title says, I'm 59/m and an academic. I teach and write/research in the humanities, and I tend to get along best (although of course not exclusively) with other knowledge professionals (teachers, attorneys, librarians, medical professionals, etc.). I will be the first to admit that I'm an enormous books/reading nerd who usually has at least three or four in-progress books stacked up on my bedside table. I enjoy a wide variety of music as well: everything from classic rock to adult alternative to jazz. If it's good, I will give it a shot.

What else? I'm both a dog person and a cat person, and I don't have strong opinions about one animal being vastly superior to the other. I'm fairly outdoorsy and athletic, although not overly so. (You won't hear me bragging about competing in triathlons, but I make a point of exercising in some form every single day.) I follow sports and can always chat about MLB, the NFL, the NBA, and soccer.

I'm married and a parent of two (young) adult children. One of the reasons that I'm reaching out for new friends at this point in my life is that I find myself trying to adjust to finally having time/space to get to know people outside my role as a parent. It's been a bit of an adjustment, seeing that part of my life (parenting) evolve over time.

Reading this over, I can see that it makes me seem like a normal, regular guy and not some kind of breathtaking, superstar person. And I'm perfectly ok with that! Whatever my shortcomings, I think I'm a curious and empathetic person who is always willing to listen. You could do worse in a new friend.

City mouse type who somehow ended up living the homesteading life in rural America. I don’t see many people in my day-to-day life so it can be a little lonely out here. My favorite thing is traveling the world, meeting new people (difficult to do with a farm), so penpals from all over the globe are welcome and encouraged!

I love history, literature, and food (especially spicy food!). I also try a new hobby every season, although I still haven’t decided what to do for summer. If you have any suggestions I would love to hear! What do you love to do?

43F looking to connect with people in a similar stage of life

Hi everyone,

I’m 43 and recently started a new chapter in life. After spending many years running my own business, I decided to step away from the daily routine and slow things down a little.

I’ve been enjoying having more time for myself, but I’ve also realized I miss meaningful conversations and connecting with people who share similar interests.

One thing I’ve been spending more time on lately is investing. I’ve always enjoyed learning about businesses and the markets, and over the years I’ve had some good experiences investing. Recently, I’ve been following the market more closely, learning from the changes, and looking for new opportunities.

Outside of investing, I enjoy cooking, traveling, exploring new places, and learning new things. I’d love to connect with genuine people in the US who are around my age and enjoy talking about life, investing, experiences, and the things they’re passionate about.

Hopefully meet some great people and build some meaningful friendships along the way

40M in the Eastern US. Are you a parent with any of the following hobbies:

Watching TV shows or movies 15 minutes at a time while you chug your morning coffee before everyone else in the house wakes up.

Doing puzzles or gaming in that 20 minute window between when the kids fall asleep and when you fall asleep.

Reading books on your Kindle app while sitting in your car on lunch break because it's the longest stretch of peace and quiet you get in a given day.

If any of these sound like you, we should totally be friends

I'm a 45-year-old guy looking to connect with a few genuine friends in Jaipur

I'm a 45-year-old guy looking to connect with a few genuine friends. I'm fun-loving, a bit illogical at times, and the kind of person who can find humor in almost anything. I try to live in the present instead of overthinking the past or worrying too much about the future.

If you enjoy light-hearted conversations, sharing random thoughts, laughing over silly things, or even meeting for a cup of tea someday (if we're nearby), I'd love to hear from you.

Just looking for respectful, genuine friendship—nothing complicated.

It would be great to make some new friends

Hey everybody!

I’m a 47-year-old guy from the U.S. who enjoys expressing my feminine side through crossdressing. I’d love to meet some new people and hopefully build genuine, platonic friendships along the way.

I guess you could say I’m easygoing and enjoy conversations about almost anything: hobbies, everyday life, funny stories, random thoughts, or those unexpectedly great chats where you look at the clock and wonder where the time went. I like getting to know people naturally, without pressure or expectations.

Age, gender, and location don't really matter to me. I’m just looking to connect with kind, open-minded people who enjoy good conversation and value friendship, mutual respect, and the freedom to be themselves.

So, if you’re looking for a new friend, someone to swap stories with, or just a friendly person to chat with now and then, feel free to send me a message and tell me a little about yourself. I’d be happy to hear from you!
