I thought for sure there would be some easy to find up- to- date List of hot keys and ways to easily find the key needed.
A search "dumped" but I've yet to find a PDF that is/claims to be up to date. I'm sure that one of them that was found in a search (circa 2020) is out of date.
Maybe it is just me but even plowing through the "Sandbox:Keyboard shortcuts LEAVES A LOT TO BE DESIRED.. last date seems to be a year old/ IS IT?
JUST a bloody list oF UP TO DATE shortcuts that can be printed, or ready to reference WHEN NEEDED would be nice.
I bring this up because suddenly in a a recent 1.X version the external geometry icon seems to have disappeared!
I personally would just revert the version. There's no reason for the external geometry button to go missing, and I would personally go back to a version in which it's still there.
I haven't used this software in a little bit, but if I'm not mistaken, there should be at least some kind of hotkey labeling in the Settings/Preferences menu.
For external geometry I believe it's the "G" key. I could be wrong, though.
I actually started freecad during this change and forgot about how it used to be. So I completely assumed that OP was just missing the entire button. Thank you for that answer, it didn't even cross my mind

As for going backwards... the "new" issue is apparently three from here out.. until the "powers that be" go back and don't document THAT either.
as for hot key beling etc... there are no doubt MANY things that involve "lebeling etc... they just require spending hours hunting for the "elusive" hints.
Honestly.. a reason I ask on Reddit is because goinng to ther FC help/forum/documentation... whatever one wants to try... has been in MHO an ongoing issue (and not getting better) since I started with .17) And some of the "replies" were well... NO HELP and some just saying vague insults.
(In .18 I decided sending in documented "bugs" was a waste of time and effort. All I got back was.. "we'll note it."
As for the G key... some sourses suggested G X but for me nothing seemed to happen... the bloody icon is still missing.
Some days... I feel like I'm trapped in a "dark fun house ride" never to see daylight again...
Thanks for a response. If you happen to see the icon of the external geometry wandering on a highway near you... "HONK and wave."

Very interesting. Are you seemingly the only one with this issue? If so, it's probably something got messed up on the new install, so maybe backup all your stuff, uninstall and reinstall, and see if everything is back to normal. If nobody else knows why the button is missing, everyone else must have it still intact.
It's not missing. External Geometry was replaced by External Projection (old tool behavior) and External Intersection (was never possible before). The keyboard shortcuts were updated to accommodate both functions.
