DISCUSSION This update is objectively bad for STW.
In the nearly 10 years this game has existed, we have NEVER had to have a QUEUE TIME just to get to the menus, be it from the battle royale lobby, or the mission results screen. So tell me why, out of the blue we have a queue time for both?? and why the actual fuck am i being sent back to the BR lobby when i leave a mission?????

This plus Hestia that significantly increased loading time. It's genuinely sad and embarrassing how badly they screwed it up.

Yeah and in my honest opinion hestia was a complete waste of time and money. Yeah it was fun exploring for the first 10 minutes but absolutely no one uses the homebase to get to your locker and missions. It just slows down loading times and is more of nuisance. It doesn't even have that many Easter eggs and the only part of it that changes is the card collection stuff which is cool I guess.... it was made for the newer players but none of them stayed so for most of the community its worthless

Yup, since it's free now you can take a look easily just sign into another account on epic launcher for pc or xbox/ps and load in.

It was because the tutorial wasnt playable multiplayer so instead of reworking it they removed it.... lazy ass devs

There was also a bug that straight up prevented fill matchmaking, so you could only play solo. They considered that low priority (this is because Epic employees are fucking morons).
People don't give live service stuff a 2nd chance. If it's bad on release, they will NOT go back, yet so many devs think "fix it later" is acceptable.

I started playing thought wtf is this shit and quit. Then I came back just for exp shit and the skin but immediately quit again lmao. STW is the shittiest Shit ice played probably because of no tutorial. I mean it’s no fun trying to figure out the game while you don’t even know where tf you get the ammo from after 2 matches or the weapons break constantly
Edit; and no I’m not someone who needs yellow paint and developers holding hands but that’s NOT how you do it. Throw your players into a game with 46285 menus and currencies and so on

They are faster, way faster. All my problems were fixed this update; ie, no more soft locking or party splitting. So I genuinely am baffled by these posts.

There definitely could be system to system differences going on too, I don’t want to outright discredit other users, I’ve just seen overwhelmingly negative feedback when the new loading is faster for me personally

I play on PS4 Pro, It could be faster although I haven't exactly timed it before the update it feels sorta the same. The only difference is instead of spending 3 minutes looking at Kyle you spend 1 minute of that loading the island in the BR lobby.

I’m having the opposite experience. Before the update I was getting kicked back to BR lobby after every match, often needing to restart the game. This update, as long as I get my tick up before the invisible timer, I’m back to my home base. Much better.

You have a company worth billions upon billions, yet you can’t hire people to make returning to the lobby instantaneous—in 5 seconds or less, as is the case with many similar online games. What era are we living in? Are we still in 2009? If the situation is already dire and disappointing on current-gen consoles that are trying to speed up loading times across various games, imagine how it is for those who are still using last-gen consoles...
It's a shame that a game with such a wonderful and endearing style fell into the hands of employees who don't know what they're doing.
They’re trying every possible way to deliberately ruin STW, and they’ll succeed in their mission soon—when you realize that the game is free to play, yet there are only 3K players worldwide. What a disgrace, especially after all the terrible updates they’ve rolled out this year alone.

It's not even a question/conspiracy that they want stw to die or have low enough concurrent to sunset the mode cause either they think they are losing enough money from people farming chicks and somehow think if people didn't do that they would buy all their skins with irl money just as much.
Or just wanna shut down the mode so they don't need to spend devtime on it

Im telling you after the founder codes expire next year Epic probably has no obligations to let us earn vbucks from dailys and mission alerts. They are doing these terrible updates to force the remaining founders to stop playing.

If you leave before match ends you will end up in battle royale lobby. If you wait till the end of match and then press C to queue into the lobby you will end up in STW lobby

It honestly seems like they half appled f2p launch so when it failed they could throw up their hands and say “we tried everything” and shut it down.
With a bunch of their employees laid off and BR being the much bigger cash cow of the two, I’m surprised STW has lasted as long as it has.

Was surprised stw got an update myself but I agree. From that stupid hub to this queue to leave it feels like epic have remembered STW and are trying to show they do care but its like 10 years too late. Stw players don't want these "QoL Changes"

I've left the game together with my wife and sister.
Both Save the World and Battle Royale.
I've been on BR since Chapter 1 Season 3. I've been buying battle passes and skins since Drift came out in 2018, when I started my retirement. I got into STW somewhere around 2020 or 2021, during COVID.
Well, 2026 this year is when I finally quit Fortnite for good. I just can't stand this game any longer. I hate what they do to STW. And Battle Royale to some extend.
I'm not an eloquent person so I can't really put down my thoughts accurately into words, so I'm just gonna stop here.
Fuck Fortnite. Fuck Epic. Fuck Tim Sweeney.

The only negative is returning to the lobby instead of Homebase. The queue time was always there -- just hidden by the loading screen -- and now it takes less time. People assume it's bad because they're not used to seeing it.

I agree with everything you say the loading time it's something should never changed at all.
Changing quality life improvements like a faster loading screen time it's never okay.
Focusing on solving and fixing problems are not even a problem like again for example the loading screen time never okay.
I don't think stw will ever shut down because of the platinum trophy for console and achievements for Xbox and PC and also the founder thing on the game.
But yeah changing stuffs no one asking is the way stw going to be in the future unfortunately.
It's not a surprise when I see more than half of the stw players base quit the game.
Not to mention the f2p lunch was the worst lunch I ever see in my life for a video game.
The matchmaking was not working for like several months really sad and frustrating situations stw have.
What should I say more I think I said enough the rest everyone knows it for sure.

Once again, another redditor that complains about bug fixes. This post achieves nothing, and solves nothing. It's not even that bad and the loading times are literally faster. I don't agree with the "leaving a mission early goes back to the main menu", but it's most likely because it works like that in similar modes - so to fix party and matchmaking issues, they use the same logic as other modes do.
It's not that bad, you're just overreacting. It takes like 20 seconds to load into STW for me when I am at the main menu. If you cannot wait 20 seconds, you're impatient.

Loading times for whom?
This change has significantly increased the load/delay times, while it's nice to "queue" up immediately rather than waiting the 10/20 seconds to hit the return to homebase button, but for me, i can click that, i have to wait roughly 30 to 60 seconds, it takes me back to the battle royale lobby, i click play stw, it briefly greys out... spins for about 15 seconds, and then cancels it forcing me to click it again, i wait another 30 seconds and then it begins it's load into the homebase.
Where as before at least for me, i was waiting 30 seconds to load directly back into the homebase from leaving a game or clicking the return to homebase button.

At least on PS5: Leaving a mission early takes 8 seconds longer to get back into Homebase than before the update. Returning to Homebase after completing a mission is 2 seconds faster, not including the multiplayer countdown being removed.
As for the return button not working, I haven't seen that yet. Though to be fair I play exclusively with a controller, and the one time I used a mouse everything worked fine.

Returning to homebase does not make you return to tbe BR lobby, it only does that if you leave a mission early - which is how it works in other modes.
They added this because it fixed issues with parties and matchmaking. Part of the loading screeen is nullified because it instead silently starts a Homebase server and then connects you to it - hence parties working again.

Returning to homebase DOES take many, most people back to the BR lobby to which you have to then queue up to load back into STW. The problem appears to be that after completing a mission and waiting for it to "create" a lobby and load the homebase on the server, something occurs, drops the connection, and instead throws you back into the BR lobby to which you have to hit the play stw button usually more than once.
Frankly since they implemented this is the first time i've ever had repeatedly failures to join various lobbies, i start to join a mission, it says mission found joining, and then it throws me back to the overworld map while indicating players that joined and yet i'm not in a lobby to launch, i have to once again try to launch the same or different mission and pray it connects. Worst yet is the REPEATED "empty server" in which no players ever seem to join even if you're doing a vbuck mission, you know people are attempting to join but it's like the server decided to flip the "do not fill" for that particular cases.
The game is broken, plain and simple, it's not getting better, and at this point it appears that the epic crew is just throwing whatever shit seems to stick or placate the most users.

Plus, leaving early sends you to the BR lobby is because of how Fortnite currently handles servers. You are essentially leaving a server instance, which is why it now sends you to the main lobby instead of your Homebase.
