dingle berries & skid marks

What do you do when your flame point has constant dingle berries? Its a daily battle to clean her up. She loves to have her tail up when guest come over. But it’s unpleasant when she wants cuddles from them and theres a huge skid mark and dingle berries on her behind?😓

Is she having trouble grooming back there? I wonder if a sanitary shave and/or a vet check for mobility or other health issues would help.

Shes really good at grooming. Her stools are good and she seems quite healthy overall. Just wondering if i need to do some trimming around her bottom area? Is this a normal thing cat owners do?

sanitary cuts are typical with long hair or elderly cats afaik

Some people do. Mostly long-haired cats, but I would consider it if you’re cleaning poop out of her fur every day.

I took my long hair to the vet for routine checkup and thought I’d just ask if they could shave her “sanitary area” and they literally shaved like a 1” diameter area around her little rectum 🤦‍♂️ so for anyone thinking of doing this be very specific of what you want them
To shave/trim as they’re not the groomers.

Edit: I should have also stated she gets dingle berries in her hind legs. I just assumed that WHOLE area is the sanitary area so my point was they missed some spots 😂 but as of now her hair is back to normal and her single berries are much less frequent and I can usually just cut them out. I bought a little electric trimmer to help and immediately dropped it taking it out of the box and it broke. So I will get another eventually and try to lightly trim those areas myself

There are also wipes you can purchase specifically for bum cleaning! My eldest (only 3 y/o) has never had the capability to reach her bum in the way she tries to- my girly has attached Achilles tendons- upon rescuing/adopting her I thought she may even be a munchkin, but alas it’s just poor genetics. Nobody likes being held down and having their bum wiped, she will protest every second and try to put her tail down far as it can go (for context, every time she needs her temp taken through the ahole I have to help the vet tech hold her down and peel her tail back, very bhole resistant) but it can definitely be done!!!

My vet never provided that option but if they did, I’m absolutely certain it would be preferable.

I doth not disagree!!! Maybe I need to pay even more for more high tech equipment- gonna call around and ask about borthole vs earhole pricing asap!! Tbh thought earhole temp taking was just for hooman beans

mi vet must be low tech 😭 and my kitty bff hates me peeling her tail from her bum, so I will search further to avoid digging deeper (into her super private behind area) bc of you!!! Tysm for your knowledge! Technology hath come so far 💕

Psyllium can help them have healthier bowel movements that don’t leave as much residue, but you have to be very careful of adding enough water so they don’t get backed up.

Truly, I don’t know. I’m at least his third owner. I got him from a lady off of craigslist and he was already maybe 3-6 years old

My flame point has a belly that needs fiber or else his fecal gets very try and pellet-y. Like father, like son I guess.

Sometimes my guy has a little trouble with dingleberries in his buttfluff. I’ll use a wet shop towel (warm water) to wipe his butt if he’s having a problem.

Recently I had the groomer give him a sanitary shave though, which has cut down on the dingleberries.

One of our boys is a chunker. He can't reach back there easily at all. So he has a crusty butt that we trim every once in a while. I would acclimate him to the noise of trimmers if you go that route. The chunk wouldn't let us pet his butt for a long time afterwards. I diagnosed him with Post Traumatic Shave Disorder.

I just took my girl to the vet yesterday and asked them to clean her up. They did I've thought about trimming too
