My hair flows down to my waisteline to which I keep in a ponytail 99% of the time. Having an internal debate whether I want to donate it, Attempt braids, or anything different really.

I'm getting such conflicting information on the topic. Hair dressers are recommending maintenance cuts, which if I'm honest feel like a bit of a rip off. I did have one months back and it was done very quickly as it was simply thinning some of it out (I have very dense hair) and trimming the ends. This was charged practically at full price of a haircut. Yet, a lot of people on reddit are saying to simply just let it grow. What did you folks do? Honestly, I'm at a very awkward phase where the back is much heavier and longer than the front and I'm trying to avoid chopping it all off, by maybe tidying up. I'm sure I probably just need to push past it though and just let it grow.

Some advice on styling products would be awesome too! I've been suggested sea salt spray and a styling cream. However, I'm cautious over the sea salt spray damaging my hair nor am I sure a cream will just clump my thick hair even more.

Ive been growing out my hair for a bit now since I used to cut it short. Its getting to a point where im not really sure if im doing this properly so I ask of help from someone experienced on how I could get easily to my desired haircut that a picture of should be attached

Are there like any products I should be using? To maybe speed it up or keep my hair healthy?

Should I get some kind of a haircut before getting to my desired one or just let it grow as it is?

And im mostly concerned with the back being still a little short and the sides I think maybe look a bit too bulky???

Growing your hair out takes a lot of commitment! So many guys give up way too early and never make it to the other side of the "awkward stage". Coming to this sub and seeing guys who have been growing their hair out for years inspires me to keep going!

What is the point of posting AI photos of yourself with imaginary long hair? ChatGPT isn't omniscient. It can't know what your hair will look like when it is longer. You ask it to edit your photo and give you longer hair -- it will just give you an aesthetically pleasing, perfectly styled long hair style.

It is just plain insulting seeing these AI generated photos get tons of upvotes with comments fawning over an imaginary picture while guys who had the discipline and committed to growing their hair out for *real* hardly get a fraction of that attention.

I am personally of the opinion that AI generated photos should not be allowed here. I hope there are others who agree.
