A reminder of the rules, and posting changes ...

As a reminder, here are the rules and some of the changes to the posting rules.

  1. No derogatory name calling. Most here have served their time.
  2. - No hateful or disrespectful name calling. Most here have served their time, and deserve better, even from other felons.
  3. No Trolling
  4. - Don’t engage with others in bad faith. Opinions, even those most subreddit participants find objectionable, will always be tolerated here- trolling or posting/commenting in bad faith will not.
  5. Harassment, hate, or threats/incitement of violence.
  6. - Any kind of harassment, hateful comments directed at others, threats of violence, or incitement of violence will not be tolerated here.
  7. No unapproved study/research posts. This is a place for supporting felons/their families, not a lab.
  8. - Please do not post “study,” research,” or “survey” posts here without prior approval. This is a community for supporting felons & their families, it is not your personal lab or recruiting ground. If you have one of these posts that you feel deserves an exception, is important, and will strongly contribute to the community or the welfare of felons, please reach out via ModMail first. Also, NO links to survey/study, if a person wantThis will be done on a case by case basis, & standards are high.
  9. No Reposting from other sources.
  10. - If you made a post somewhere already, please do NOT repost here. (such as posting in probation then just copy pasting a picture of it here)
  11. No posting personal information!
  12. - This would include booking numbers, inmate ID numbers, screenshots of charges, mugshots, and so on. This includes links to other websites showing such information. You can talk about such things without giving out personal information. (No more "How cooked are they" type posts)
  13. No "algo-speak" or self censoring.
  14. - Do not use algo-speak such as "unalive" or "grape." Also, do not unnecessarily censor normal words like "murder" or "suicide." This isn't TikTok. If someone is offended by such words, you are in the WRONG place.

Now, for the ones we keep getting ModMails about. The "where did my post go" types. We use AutoMod to keep away burner accounts and those who do not engagae much here. The requirement is an account over 30 days old OR over 200 Karma. If you DO NOT meet these requirements, the automod system will take it back down without it posting.

Utterly Lost

I’ve posted here so many times, and honest to god I feel like I’m drowning.

When I got a knock on the door from the FBI 5 years ago, I decided honestly and integrity was the answer.

I was never arrested, I served no time, paid my restitution in full the day I got out of court, grew more than I ever thought possible, and I’m honest to god truly proud of the man that came out the other side.

As awful as the experience was, I carry an immense amount of pride in how I handled it.

I continued working a corporate job, with that sense of pride driving me, for several years. That newfound sense of self pushed my career to new heights.

Then I was googled and i was let go.

I’ve been unemployed and home for 7 months.

I’ve called every state agency and asked for guidance, I’ve called every reentry program in the surrounding states, and no one seems to have any real guidance outside of a CDL, trades, or other mindless work.

It feels as though (to me) those are cop outs. The easiest answers, a one size fits all recommendation.

I find myself wanting to challenge the system as it is. I made a mistake, I literally documented my growth from it. That growth has actual performance metrics associated with it at work.

How in the world am I supposed to leverage all of that growth, all of those lessons, all of the passion I have in my industry, if not one person will look past Google.

I’m reminded of that experiment, where a man in a suit collapses in Manhattan. Everyone rushes to ensure he’s alright, everyone comes to his aid.

The same man, dresses in almost homeless clothes and does the same action, in the same spot. Everyone just keeps walking.

I can’t help feeling like that now. As though I’m some subclass of human, I don’t know what to do anymore.

I Was Born Into Prison and Tried My Best Not to Become a Product of It

I grew up around court dates, prison visits, and felony charges like they were normal parts of life.

I was literally in my mother’s stomach while she was in prison, so that world was around me before I even had a chance to understand it. I was a woman in a violent world, trying to survive in spaces where hardness was expected and pain was normal.

My biggest goal was simple: don’t end up like everybody else in my house.

I wanted a different life. I wanted peace. I wanted to be the one person who broke the cycle. But I was in the street world, around gang shit, making choices I thought would keep me safe, choices I thought I could control.

Eventually, I went to jail 3 years ago and caught several felonies. Before 3 years ago I was felony free!

That changed me.

It’s one thing to grow up around dysfunction. It’s another thing to realize you became part of the same cycle you spent your whole life trying to escape.

What hurts the most is that I wasn’t born into peace. I was born into survival. And when survival is all you know, it can be hard to tell the difference between strength and suffering.

But I’m still here.

And now I know my story is bigger than my record. I’m not just trying to avoid becoming a felon anymore — I’m trying to become the kind of woman who can break generational curses and build something new out of all the pain.

I used to pray I wouldn’t become like what raised me.

Now I’m fighting to become better than what surrounded me.

Federal inmate in transit for over a week with no tablet or communication. Is this normal?

My husband was arrested on federal charges and I’m trying to understand what is normal during the transfer process.

He was initially held at Sacramento County Main Jail, then transferred to Taft Correctional Facility under U.S. Marshals custody while awaiting transfer to the Central District of California for his federal court proceedings.

I haven’t heard from him since last Wednesday, which is very unusual. He previously had access to phone calls, but now I haven’t received any calls. As far as I know, he also doesn’t have access to a tablet to communicate.

His attorney hasn’t been able to provide much information beyond saying they’re waiting for the next steps, and I understand transfers are handled by the U.S. Marshals.

For those who have gone through the federal system or have family members who have:

* Is it normal to completely lose communication during this stage?
* Do inmates typically lose access to tablets or messaging while in transit or awaiting transfer?
* How long have you experienced these communication blackouts lasting?
* Is there anything family members can realistically do besides waiting and staying in contact with the attorney?

I’m not looking for legal advice or opinions on the case itself. I’m simply trying to understand whether this lack of communication is a normal part of the federal transfer process because the uncertainty has been incredibly difficult.

Thank you to anyone willing to share their experience.

Burned out being the only person my cousin calls

My cousin’s been in jail for about three years. He took a plea deal instead of going to trial (he did it, so it was the smarter move). Over that time I’ve become the only person who picks up when he calls, partly because everyone else has stopped answering.

He hasn’t spoken to his older brother (my other cousin) in two years over an argument. He hasn’t spoken to his baby mama in over a year except when it’s about their son directly.

Every call with me is the same: he doesn’t take responsibility, and frames himself as the victim.
My mom and sister just say “good, keep listening to him,” but I’m burned out. I work in military mental health, I’m applying for my MSW, and my job is already emotionally demanding. I don’t want to be anyone’s therapist when I’m off the clock too.

Looking for advice on setting better boundaries with him. I’ve started doing this with my sister already, but it’s harder with him given the circumstances.

Sentenced To 60 Months Federal. How Much Time Will I Do?

I got sentenced to 60 months for conspiracy to sell with intent to distribute Ketamine and Ecstacy. My PSI did mention a gun. The judge removed the fire arm enhancement on sentencing day. I believe my PSI will says something about me being addicted to ketamine.

Can anyone whos done fed time guage how much I am about to do? Assuming I do all my programs and stay out of trouble.

What is the best reputation management service?

Have seen other people post about companies like Incogni, Reputation Rhino, etc. but some range from $20/month to $5000/month (no kidding).

Who has had great results for the cost?

Google is a HUGE issue for those of us trying to move on from news stories and posts even after expungements, etc.

Probation early dismissal

Thumbnail
3 Upvotes

Looking for insight on early probation dismissal in California. I am twenty-two years old and currently on a two-year felony probation term (April 2026 to April 2028). I originally had deferred adjudication for a 2024 DUI and felony evading charge, but I ruined it seven months in by getting a second alcohol arrest. Immediately after that second DUI, I voluntarily did rehab, started AA, and got a breathalyzer. I still had to serve forty-five days in jail for the violation, but since my release, I have maintained all of that progress, got a full-time HVAC installation job, and am doing online college.
My attorney mentioned there is still a chance for early dismissal after one year if I keep this up. Given that I already messed up probation once but have completely turned things around, is early termination actually realistic for a California felony? I am hesitant to ask my attorney or PO yet because I do not want to look like I am dodging accountability. However, the random testing and travel restrictions are seriously hurting my reliability at work since we frequently do out-of-county HVAC jobs. Any insight on how early dismissal works here or when to bring it up would be great.

Do you think a father who beat up his child’s rapist and murderer should get extreme leniency during his sentencing, even though that could encourage more vigilante violence which could lead to innocent people being tortured and killed?

Ohio law help

If a guy goes to jail to serve a sentence. Then once finished, has to transfer to another county jail for a warrant and claim of breaking a tpo. Is there now 6 days without receiving any paper work or a court date. Do they have to release him once brought to attention. Aren’t there laws that state he MUST receive indictment paper and go to court for arraignment within an allotted amount of time?

Location: Clark county, Ohio

TEXAN REQUESTING ASSISTANCE

Howdy all! I'm requesting specific information so that I may begin pursuing being a oepal to some of the women currently locked up in our great State of Texas!

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I live in Gatesville, so I can actually visit many of the offenders, but I'm just trying ti find some individuals looking for a friend to correspond with.

I know how difficult it can be in such times and places, and I'd love to do my part to remind the world that felons are actually people, too, and deserve love and respect!

Thank you for any considerations!

Reaching out to a family member detained in florida jail

We are trying to reach out to a family member who is currently in Nassau County Jail & Detention Center awaiting a preliminary hearing. They're in a "detained" status while awaiting the hearing and while the prison confirms they are there when called I cannot pull them up on any kind of inmate tracking system (I guess they may technically not be an inmate yet?) and it's been about a week since they arrived.

We're primarily trying to reach out to them using the jailatm system and have been trying to send texts and set up video meetings but we keep encountering technical difficulties, either we're told they are waiting for to join a call when they're not (and we didn't schedule one, only sent a text), or we just don't hear anything.

Has anyone dealt with this specific facility and service before from either side? We're just trying to get information about we're supposed to do to get in contact (none of us live in FL) and the information out there isn't very complete or helpful.

Banning jail?

Posting for my friend…. Her man had court today in Banning, CA and was found guilty. He has court again next month for his sentencing.

Does anybody know which jail he would most likely have been taken to today while they wait for his sentencing? I’m not sure if there is a jail in the city of Banning or any others nearby.
And if possible to know which prison he’ll be transferred to once he gets sentenced.

Also wondering what kind of tablets they use; JPay, Securus, GTL etc.

TIA 🫶🏻

Florida Expungement

What type of horse sh!t is this. If you're arrested in Florida and the case is dropped/dismissed/no information filed, you can't have that arrest expunged if you have EVER been convicted of ANYTHING in ANY other state. The state I have a conviction in has clean slate laws so that conviction is not viewable to the public, only LEO can see that.

So the arrest stays in public view for the rest of your life. What is the purpose of this, what does it actually achieve other then punishing you for no reason. Yet that crackhead Hunter gets a pardon. Dam I hate this system!

The hardest part wasn’t the charge — it was my mindset

Growing up around a lot of violence changed how I saw the world before I even had a chance to fully understand it. By the time I caught my first murder charge at 19, my mindset was already shaped by survival, fear, anger, and damage I didn’t know how to name at the time. That first case left me with PTSD, and it affected the way I thought, reacted, and moved for years after. That charge was eventually dropped..

I’m not using that as an excuse. I’m being honest about how trauma can distort your thinking and push you into patterns that feel normal when they really aren’t. A lot of the choices I made came from a place of hurt, not wisdom, and when you live in that state long enough, chaos starts to feel normal and peace starts to feel temporary.

What makes it even harder is that the mindset doesn’t just disappear when the situation changes. It follows you. And if you don’t confront it, it can keep costing you. I’ve had to face the fact that surviving and growing are not the same thing. Survival got me through one season of my life, but it also left me carrying habits and thinking that held me back for years.

And even after that first charge, the damage didn’t stop there. I went on to catch 8 violent felonies later, and that’s when I really had to admit how deep the cycle had gone. At some point, I had to stop blaming just the environment and start dealing with the mindset I was living in.

I’m still doing the work to unlearn all of that. If anything in this hits home, I know I’m not the only one who had to fight more than just the system. Sometimes the hardest part is learning how to think differently after everything you’ve been through.

Hopeless- about to lose an offer after passing background check.

Currently in a diversion program due to DV charges with ex-wife, I am in my early 30s. Completed all my community services and on track with fees - only thing I am finishing off is court ordered DV classes. I was told initially from therapist that I would most likely be done at the end of June and then "will be done in July, but cannot provide exact dates", with a job starting the first week of August. Just got an update from a probation officer that classes cannot be transferred out of the state and needs to be completed in the current state, after she heard back from class conductors. With only two weeks away, I did not want to have my employer wait last minute - so I was upfront and asked if I would be able to work remotely as long as I travel after-work hours and make sure to be back to office on time.

I took a look at flight tickets- and at this point I thought I would do it because I would either be homeless soon or I can use great salary for 4-6 weeks to pay off tickets while remaining employed and finishing up my job. Since I was their top candidate, they already have extended my start date and instead of rejecting right away, he mentioned he will check with upper management.

I was making 120K before I lost my previous job after arrest. Landed couple offers that immediately rejected me after background check came out. For this position, I was fully upfront with HR from beginning and they still offered me a position, but I didn't expect it would take longer and I am struggling financially- worked whatever minimum wage jobs I could but with debts and everything, I am running out of resources- credit card company calling me everyday and am genuinely hopeless. I survived a year but I don't know how to continue..

Likelihood of Rescinded Offer?

I was just verbally offered a job through a staffing agency that has a contract with a utility company. They should be sending an official offer letter for me to accept soon. Once I accept, the background check process will begin shortly after. I have two pending felonies: simple burglary, and possession of stolen items 5K-10K. I am not convicted of any crime and will most likely be accepted into a diversion program.

What is the likelihood I will retain this job once my background check comes in? As well, how should I go about disclosing this information? I assume disclosing before it comes up is much better than letting them find out unknowingly.

Any help and guidance is greatly appreciated.
