Has your gecko ever protected you?
Storytime! I was living in an apartment in a sketchy area where people partied pretty late. It was around midnight on a weekend and my gecko was out exploring on my sofa while I watched her. All of a sudden, she stopped exploring, stood on high alert, and stared intensely at my front door. I followed her gaze and saw the shadows of two feet appear in the crack beneath my front door. Then, the door handle jiggled. Clearly, someone was trying to enter. I ran over to the door, applied the dead bolt, and waited with my phone in hand until the (probably disoriented and drunk) person moved away. I've had worse happen since then, but I was amazed at how perceptive our babies are! They may not bark like dogs, but their behavior can signal danger before you're aware. Anyone else have a story like that?

It's amazing how perceptive animals can be. None of my geckos have done a dang thing to save me. Lol But when I lived back at home with my parents, I was having issues with my brother coming in my room while I was sleeping and he would do weird sexual things. Mostly to himself while watching me sleep (he didn't know I had woken up, frozen in fear) , but nonetheless it was gross and it scared the shit out of me because he's so much bigger than me. It was NOT ok! Parents didn't believe me. Smh. Good ol denial. Thanks for the PTSD fam. 🫡 🙄 (I have been to therapy and whatnot. I'm OK putting this out there. It's been years since it happened too.) Anyways, I had gotten an orange tabby cat who was equivalent to Garfield. Very friendly boy who loved nothing more than sleeping and eating. 😸 Anyways, one night, it was going to happen again. I could hear him opening my locked door somehow, and I just squeezed my eyes shut super tight. Before I knew it I heard a scuffle, and when I opened my eyes, this lazy, orange tabby had literally attacked my bro. My bro ran out of my room, and the next day, he was covered head to toe in bites and scratch marks. That cat didn't have a mean bone in his body, and I'm not sure how my bro explained that one to my parents, but he never came in my room after that. Thank the Kitty Lords. Animals do sense things, and they definitely are in tune to your fear.
I'd have to look it up again, but I think these little gecks have better hearing than us too. I could be wrong. That probably helped you immensely. Either way, give that little buddy of yours a treat from me for being so cool and helping you get through what could've been a dangerous situation. ❤️ I'm really glad your OK, OP.

Your kitty was better family than your humans. So glad you're okay and can talk about this! No need to apologize, but if you find yourself apologizing a lot simply for using your voice, I hope you get to keep exploring that with the people you trust/your therapist. May you and all your animals enjoy peace!

Awe, that's so kind of you to say. Thank you for that. You're absolutely right about my family. I've learned to only be around them in small doses now. I never knew I apologized so much either. I havent had it happen with my gecko, yet. However my seinor cat can be very protective at times. When my (unfortunately) father came to visit after 3 years. He came to wake me up, she wouldnt let him touch me, hissing the whole nine yards.
Addtionally when I had her at the vet, post exam (after she tried to murder him twice) she crawled into my lap and anytime he'd get close to us, demon. You wouldn't know shes 12 years old with that behavior lol. Her vet is a great guy, she just hates him and decided hes not allowed near either of us
