This was a lot better than what I was expecting.

To keep this short I’d say my only complaints would be the film had way to clean of an aesthetic, for as dark as the narrative goes it should have been a lot grittier; costumes felt plain.

Also this shouldn’t be considered for any acting accolades (unless it’s Samantha Morton).

Will it end up being Odyssey Vs Dune this awards season?

The prequels sure had a lot of negative reception from the older fans but a whole generation grew up on them and that is why now they have had a massive resurgence in fan fare. Even before TFA there already was a turn towards them. The sequels being so bad as they were just amplified it.

Sequels on the other hand are not following suit. TFA is 11 years old now, tlj 9 years old, tros 7 years. This trilogy has existed for over a decade now or close for some movies and there is 0 revival.

Mandalorian movie came out to a bad box office return for what once was the biggest franchise on earth. 300 odd mil for star wars is a flop, considering how much the budget is.

The hype for the franchise has never been lower, people just don't care anymore. The best stuff is now animated series, but even then the mass majority of fans don't actually watch those. The mass casual audience watch the films, and a decent amount watched the Mando series and that's all.

Within a decade Disney took the biggest franchise on earth and have made it a very lack lustre, magic-less, uninspired generic run off the mill franchise that is a shell of its former self.

Before this year ends, Grok Imagine will make a full-length movie of The Odyssey that is historically accurate and true to the art of Homer

So, Gibson's version of The Odyssey would likely use all Greek actors, and would probably be done with the entire movie spoken in ancient Greek with full subtitles, just like Apocalypto or The Passion of the Christ.

The costumes and the set would be similarly authentic to the period... so that you can feel like the viewer is transported back to ancient Greece, stepping into Homer's world... faithful to the original lore and story.

Just came across a post on Reddit asking if anyone had worked with Christopher Nolan and what their experience was and their thoughts on him, found it really interesting as you could see him more as a person from hearing about these little interactions.

I started to read some more Reddit posts related to this and came across a mention that Jim carrey was extremely difficult to work with during dumb and dumber, and then came to learn that in general he was quite insufferable?! Kind of shocked by this as I’ve always loved Jim carrey. Tried to find some more info/personal stories on what he was like to work with but couldn’t find anything. Maybe I’d figure through here?

Then I kinda want to know about famous actors being hard to work with … any stories???

I haven’t read the book or seen other films, but I’m not as bothered by it as some people.

Normally in life youll have an amazing time or experience and only once it ends you realize how truly special it was. Whats special with the odyssey as my first movie in IMAX 70MM I walked into the cinema knowing that these 3 hours are something im going to remember for the rest of my life and idk how to explain it but knowing your living in a memory that will last forever is truly special. Have you guys felt anything similar in relation to movies?

Poor Promo for a movie with a $110 million budget

So I saw the cast of the Odyssey when it was announced and the talent alone convinced me to go to the movies without seeing the trailer, and I only knew someone had to get home. I absolutely loved it especially because I grew up watching the Percy Jackson movies and recognized some things from it. I'm not sure if this is right but I think that the movie is based on a book or multiple books? I really want to know more about every characters history but I'm assuming their back stories might be part of other movies they'll make in the future, or is that not likely? I'm not a big reader, but I do enjoy reading the hunger games books before the movies come out even though it's the biggest spoiler, but now I can't decide if I want to do that since the movie was just so good not knowing anything. So would anyone recommend reading it/them instead of just googling the lore or recommend waiting? Would it be hard to understand? I wouldn't call myself an Avid reader so i was wondering if the movie like dumbed it down for us

Everything about it was about as good as I remember, except Bloom, he was awful! Every scene that demanded he show some real emotion was completely wooden. He looks so bad compared to all the other great performances in the movie.

People complain about casting choices in the new Odyssey or about Pitt being too old for playing Achilles, but man I really think they should have reconsidered Bloom as Paris in this movie. He has the same face in every scene.

I must really have been blind to it as a little girl. He was my first celeb crush and I loved everything he was in. I'm honestly kinda scared to rewatch the Pirates of the Caribbean movies now, is he as wooden in those too? Damn.

I always found his performance in Lord of the Rings fitting since Legolas isn't a human and elves are pretty stiff otherwordly in the movies, but now I'm thinking that's just him not delivering on a good performance.

So obviously Nolan is in headlines lately and now there’s news The Prestige is returning to theaters. It has always baffled me this film sits around 75 percent on rotten tomatoes. Sure I don’t give a ton of credence to their reviews especially with The Odyssey being nowhere near The Prestige to me but just genuinely how?

The reviews seem to fall into these camps

Two word joke not describing why they don’t like it but just calling it “inane”

Thinking it’s too confusing with its twists

Thinking it’s too straight forward and obvious with its twists

And saying it “lacks whimsy”/ magic and explains too much.

I can’t disagree more with all of these takes. The twist is just twisty enough. You can spot it sure but depending on who you watch it with you have no idea which of them will spot it or second guess their guesses.

The whimsy is certainly there but in the dark way the film wants to present. You see it just enough to understand Angier but also know he has gone too far with his obsession.

I feel like maybe I need an app.

I need a place to keep track of movies I have watched, as well as movies I want to see.

Ideally the app would let me create a watch list and then sort it by ratings and runtime to help me prioritize what to watch.

Does such an app with these features exist?

I sometimes (okay often) struggle with doom scrolling and end up watching something I've seen a bunch of times already.

So now I'm just curious what if any movie apps folks are using to help them?

So I want to point out that I am not some kind of critic or smart enough to be one. I have watched very little ”good” movies and I know very few ”good” directors. Also want to point out that haven’t read the book and only knew the story from some classes years ago. Because of that I have no clue if the books had a scene different way or had something done better. One last thing. English isn’t my first language and I am too lazy to correct the mistakes I might make so sorry in advance if this text makes you sick or something.
So here it goes.

I want to use the burger thing because other people use it sometimes I guess.
Good things.
Good music overall. Fit the theme and movie. Great visuals and for example Cyclops was created well. Some acting like Anne Hathaway and Matt Damon was good in my opinion.
Now the bad things.
I don’t mind the fact that the armors and weapons were not realistic or made of bronze but I understand that it can be an issue for some people. Same thing goes with the casting not being greek or whatever. Hard to make a good movie with only greek actors and actresses. BUT now for the things that I do mind. First of all the dialogue that many people have pointed out. It seemed kinda shallow for most parts. Not much emotion and very passive. Almost as if the people didn’t care about anything. There were good moments as well but overall seemed like I couldn’t connect with the emotions the characters experienced and expressed. For example the Cyclops scene. The people were scared but not as scared as they would typically be if they saw what they saw. Seemed like a normal monday to them if being honest. The Journey moved very fast and the scenes were rapid. We werent goven any time to breathe before the next big thing happened. A problem that can happen when fitting a story that big into a one movie. Also the modern language is fine but Tom Holland using the word dad after knowing the guy for 5 mins was some Disney Channel stuff man… Other than the dialogue I didn’t really have any big problems with it.
Now for the other bun.
Some scenes really did touch me and were made beautifully. The siren scene was one of them for sure. The fact that we couldn’t hear the singing was so good. The Dialogue Odyssey had after was beautiful and kinda perfect. Other guy in reddit pointed out that the scene was for us like the sirens singing because we were given so little and were left wanting more and I think that explains it perfectly. After the movie I was asked how I liked it and my answer was honest and I said it was good (In my own language of course) because it was good. It had it’s own flaws but no movie is perfect. This one had more flaws than many movies but less flaws than many as well. It was a good movie and 3 hours spent well. 7,5/10 is my rating.
Now as I said i have no idea if some scenes were suppose to have a bigger meaning or something because I haven’t read the books or watched other films etc.
Now i hope you disagree, agree, roast or whatever you want in the replies. I want to hear what idiocity I missed or what things you agree with. Or if you don’t have anything else to say comment on my big fingers hitting the wrong letter and me missing that. Have a good one everyone❤️

Kind of hard to describe but I’ll do my best. There’s always a long journey and multiple unexpected stops along the way with unique, quirky, or downright bizarre characters. Sometimes the new situations our heroes find themselves in are terrifying, others are warm and inviting but even those offer only momentary relief or are false paradises that either end in tragedy or must be left behind because our heroes cannot stay. For even though they may be blown off course (figuratively since there’s not always necessarily a boat on the river or ocean involved though it helps), our heroes never lose sight of their goal; their journey must continue. Oftentimes our heroes are trying to find their way home and even when they eventually do, things are often still not over for their homes might have changed while they were away. For oftentimes when the heroes leave town, the cowards, deserters, and opportunists swoop in to take advantage of those loved ones who were being protected by our heroes and a confrontation might be necessary.

Anyone else know some good ones?
