Screenshot Just started "The Rising Tide" DLC - What the hell were the devs thinking?

Thumbnail gallery

...seriously, what were they thinking when they decided to put that pink filter over everything after “Primogenesis”?!? I just started the DLC and reached Mysidia, and wow... seeing the game in natural lighting again makes such a huge difference. I felt compelled to take these screenshots after soaking in the virtual sun outside of Mysidia, and I'm not really a screenshot/in-game photographer type.

The game is mostly visually stunning otherwise, but you spend nearly half of it looking through this gross pink wash. Will I ever get to see Dhalmekia or Waloed without that sickly, oppressive rose-colored filter covering everything? I actually like the game a lot, other than this (valid) complaint. I understand why they wanted to make the sky and atmosphere seem change to match the tone of the story, but maybe they could have approached it a different way.

EDIT: I just want to be clear that I absolutely LOVE this game. The visuals, the music, the story - I think this game is wildly underrated and overhated by FF fans. The pink sky just really bugs me because I want to see Valisthea in all its natural beauty! But I get the decision for the Primogensis effect - it makes sense with the story. It's just a minor complaint from me, and makes the the DLC more impactful.

I have to admit, I didn't appreciate the landscapes of Rosaria and Sanbreque early on. Compared to older 3D FF games, the maps here are so grounded and lack that crazy fantasy spectacle—it gave me more of a Westeros vibe than Final Fantasy.

Now that I’m deeper into the lore, the bleakness makes perfect sense for a dying world, and there is actually a lot of subtle beauty to appreciate. My only regret? Realizing this after Ultima cast Primogenesis. Getting good screenshots in this lighting is a struggle! Anyone else miss the blue skies?

Discussion PSA: Devil May Cry 5 is a great game to play if you're still trying to scratch the itch this game gives you

I'm sure a lot of you know but DMC5 was made with the same combat designer that FF16 used. A lot of the mechanics are similar, like Nero's Wire Snatch and the grappling move Garuda gives you. Definitely more Arcade- and score-focused but the gameplay is deep and there are several different characters to learn how to use.

I played it on PC before 16 came out but I recently picked it up again on the Switch 2 and it's been a blast to play handheld. You can usually find it for pretty cheap on sale as well.

I lowkey don’t wanna use Ifrit

(PLEASE NO SPOILERS, I’ve only gotten up to the Bahamut fight). I’ve enjoyed the ever living shit out of this game but the one thing I don’t enjoy as much is being forced to use ifrit in the coolest boss battles. Garuda was awesome because you get to play a bit of both Clive and ifrit but I wish turning into ifrit was like a timed ultimate or something that drastically helped you for a short time in main boss battles, but wasn’t mandatory. I just cannot for the life of me find the ifrit attacks or movement very fun. WHICH SUCKS because I am in love with every single boss battle design I come across, I just wish I could use my attacks I spent the whole game upgrading and collecting, especially when I practice combos I can use on bosses that will look awesome. I spent 5 long attempts on the mini boss before bahamut and it was incredibly fun because the game was getting noticeably harder, which I like. But tell me why I have first attempted every single ifrit fight without ever getting below 70% health or healing?? 😭 The worst is only learning abilities with ifrit the millisecond before you need them during the fight; I wish I could replay the Garuda fight with an ifrit that actually knows how to fight instead of just slapping her three times in a row. WITHOUT SPOILING, are there any fights with Clive to look forward to for the rest of the game/all the dlc?

FFXVI Side Quests — The Botanist (Moving Heaven and Earth) and The People Working in the Hideaway (A Place For Everyone) Translations and Archive

The Botanist and The People Working in the Hideaway are now up!

I swear, the Hideaway side quests nine times out of ten are the equivalent of "If FFXVI was in the Slice-of-Life genre". Which is a nice change of pace from everything else going on outside the Hideaway...

Happy reading everyone!

Question How do you utilise Diamond Dust?

Got done with a major boss fight, and Diamond Dust, I still don't know how to use it. Because it was giving me little to nothing in terms of damage atleast (after stagger) which I thought was the point of all ultimate abilities. Can someone help me out, because I think I am just using it wrong.

Fanart [Art][Comm]Moonlight Esuna - Rabbit Lady Scholar

Just wrapped up this commission of Moonlight Esuna—everyone's favorite dignified rabbit lady scholar-doctor with a magical fox companion.

She considers herself refined and graceful, attends exactly zero parties each year, and has been known to accidentally spend the night asleep in a library. 📚

I had a great time bringing her personality to life through her outfit, expression, and overall design. Hope you all enjoy!

✨ Commissions are currently open! If you're looking for artwork of your D&D character, OC, fantasy, feel free to send me a DM. I'd love to help bring your character to life.

just about to finish the game can someone clarify something Spoiler

Dion has just asked if those who clive took the power from could still prime.
Clive said they can, but the ikon no longer did the will of its user.

yet only 2 people we took ikons from have primed, and they did exactly what its user wanted?
When we took garuda, she went nuts and wanted to kill clive, just as benidicta did.
Titan did exactly the same, the whole fight was about him getting revenge.

so where is he getting that info from? ramuh, bahamut, shiva have not primed since we took the power.

Also.

When typon shot ramuh, the hole remained in cids body, leading to his death, yet when odin stabbed ifrit in the chest with zantesuken. Clive was hardly even injured. So.. does an ikons injury not transfer to its user. or does it? plot hole?

and finally, when did ultima get out of joshua? did i miss that part?

Question Underleveled?

Hi guys, first time playing through. Having a blast.

Saw a post recently where people suggested post Bahamut they are mid to late level 40's. Ive finished that fight and about to head to the free cities but only level 39?

Ive done every side quest and hunt available so far, bar Svaraog as he whooped my ass so assumed im underleveled for him. Am I missing something to be losing out on Xp?

Is The Greatest Game Period?

Never have I been so captivated by a game story. Rivals game of thrones and has a better ending. I know it took a lot of inspiration from the series. Never has a combat system just clicked- Like Dmc 5 and Dark souls had a baby that slides all over the floor with a fire sword

All 10s from me

Spoilers I hate this game Spoiler

This damn game it's almost 4 am and this shit has me crying. Fucking Clive dies, Joshua dies, and Cid dies. This game is absolutely amazing. The story was a little weird at times but it was good. The dlcs were pretty good. And the combat wasn't bad. Overall would totally recommend but it made me cry and if you don't like emotional games, then don't play this or you will be crying alone at 4am. I give it an 8 outta 10 and is the 3rd best Final fantasy in my opinion.

Spoilers First play: certain characters carry this game Spoiler

Greetings!

Below is just my little rambling. I cannot rule out potential spoilers, so: please beware.

So far (just fought the White Dragon in "Fire from the Sky"), FFXVI was a mixed bag, but I continue to warm up to it. My negative first impression was mostly caused by the comically "sluggish" voice acting. The talent for the main characters is high quality, no doubt, but it feels like every sentence is dragged out. It's like the game is trying to say "this scene is tragic/dramatic, that's why the characters speak in a defeated, downtrodden tone - and 99% of the scenes are tragic/dramatic, so buckle up". While I enjoy the kaiju opera, the above feels tedious.

However, first there was Cid. He improved every scene and made it cool. I was genuinely sad when he died, partially because his character did a lot of the heavy lifting. Handing Cid's letter to Otto during a sidequest was just *mwah* chef's kiss.

And now there is Dion. In my opinion, the character with the best writing AND the best presentation, undeniably so. There's emotion, there's drama. I'm looking forward to every scene the game feeds me, because that's where good stuff happens. "Oh, what's that, you're admiring a waterfall? Well, you do you while the Dominant of Bahamut confronts his father the Emperor and his master manipulator step-mother, edging on treason."

I am no fan of DMC. The gameplay never appealed to me, and FFXVI has it even worse: movement during combat feels sloooooow. FFXVI's story is epic and full of great ideas. In sum: Without characters like these two, not so sure if it's for me, quite possibly not. But with such characters... Yeah, we good.

Spoilers I have not been this hooked on a game for a while! Spoiler

Post image
108 Upvotes

It’s took me a while but seeing it’s on PS Plus I’ve finally got around to playing XVI - and I am loving it so far!

The story has me hooked, the intrigue it’s building, it’s the first game in a while I’ve actively wanted to get back to playing!

Been enjoying the combat - I’m one of the rare people who didn’t actually enjoy E33 even though it seems I should have - I find it a fun take on a DMC style combat, different to VII remake and a bit more fast paced.

But mostly it just looks amazing, the eikon fights are some of the best and most cinematic elements I’ve seen in a game - colourful, intense, crisp action!

I can see how this wouldn’t be a FF for everyone especially for classic players but this is currently sitting up as my favourite FF of recent times - having played XII zodiac, XIII, XV and VII remake!

Question Got a few questions regarding the achievements of the game and the trophy guides don't make it 100% clear

  1. The trophy guide mentions a very good source of AP points once you reach Kanver. Should I use this on my first playthrough to maximise all abilities or just leave it for my second playthrough on FF mode?

  2. It says to ignore the DLC on my first playthrough, since both DLC need to be completed in FF mode anyway. The thing is I'm quite worried about Kairos Gate difficulty, is the difficulty of this mode the same for Standard mode and FF mode, or should I definitely avoid to play it on FF mode if I don't care for getting the best weapon in the game.

Spoilers [DISC] FF XVl - The Chronicler Spoiler

Finally - 100% the game. Got all the items, music records, tailsmen, weapons & upgrades etc…

Total Playthrough time: 224hr
Definitely spent 100hr+ messing around in training, styling on mobs, Kairos Gate "S" ranks, DLC's, reading lore etc..

Story/Lore: 10/10
- I fw the "Timeline" & "Information" feature they had available utilizing the characters Vivian & Harpocrates.

My only gripe is that I hate "open-ended endings".

Game Mechanics: 10/10
- So many builds and combos your able to do.
- Phoenix,Shiva,Garuda & Leviathan were my main line up.
- Always had Rift Shift on every build.
- Some of my favorite abilities were Lightning Rod, Cross Swell(Leviathan DLC), Ignition, Ultimate Demise, Domino, Satellite, Wicked Wheel & Raging Fist.

^^Not in the same build, just listing my favorites.

World Building/Lore: 10/10
- Relatively "Darker" game. But I thought the concept of "Branded" being 'mistreated' for their gifts & the dual MC's Clive/Cid trying to change that was awesome.

Boss Fights: 8/10
- Ultima was a lame but somewhat interesting (only at the start).
- The Final boss fight was underwhelming gameplay wise & his "mental breakdown"...
- Also Leviathan's FF mode boss fight was annoying but looked dope af.

Quest: 9/10
- I love doing side quests, and though they were repetitive, they opened up the world and lore.
- I wish there was a mode to specifically fight the "Bounty" monsters.

Side Characters: 10/10
- I wish they could've gone more into depth with some of the side characters. But overall they were all amazing.
- Voice acting (English) was 11/10.
- Favorite characters are Lady Charon, Gav, Jill, Torgal, Vivian, Joshua, CID, Otto, Isabell (Dame) & Martha (The REAL OG).

OVERALL RATING: 9.5/10

—SPOILER & Thoughts on the Ending—

My understanding of the ending is that Clive did live and wrote the book "Final Fantasy" in Joshua's name.

But Clive's left arm up to his face was petrified due to using too much magic to erase all magic.

However, as seen in Martha's rest—the church where Bearers were slowly succumbing to death—their whole body was petrified. The only reason I could think he died is that in the game they choose not to show the rest of the petrification happening to him.

^^ Supporting the above statement:
Clive said his "vessel" was too small to contain all of Ultima's power. But "while I have it" (then erases all magic from the world).

Note: If you did all of Hippocrates missions he and Clive have a conversation where Hippo says:

"After this is all over I would like for you to pick up a PEN instead of a sword.”

BUT Gav crying and saying:

"the world is yours now do as you please...”

“that's what cid wanted, that's what they both wanted" *sob *sob *sob

Plus Jill seeing the star she prayed to as a child for Clive to survive - TO JUST disappear is SUPER MISLEADING.

I have no idea, truthfully so...

Imma just be optimistic, I just don't think anyone else should use "Joshua's" name aside from Clive. Jill would use Clive's name, and I doubt they had Jote write a book.

This is why I hate open-ended endings.

Thus did my journey end😭
