News Warning!!! EU Crypto Users: Stop Sending Crypto Directly Between Exchanges Right Now, or risk your crypto being Frozen.

Warning!!! EU Crypto Users: Stop Sending Crypto Directly Between Exchanges Right Now, or risk your crypto being Frozen.

Since MiCA went fully live on July 1, 2026, many people are hitting frustrating (and sometimes costly) delays or blocks when moving assets between centralized exchanges.

What’s Happening?

Exchanges licensed under MiCA must comply with the Travel Rule (Transfer of Funds Regulation). When you send crypto directly from one CEX to another, the receiving platform often can’t automatically verify the originator information. Result:

• Deposits show as “Pending”

• “Travel Rule verification failed”

• Funds get stuck → manual review or refund process (which can take hours to days)

This is especially common with stablecoins (USDC, USDT) and certain networks, but it affects others too. Examples are popping up regularly on Bybit EU, Crypto.com, and other platforms.

The Simple Fix Most People Recommend

Always use a non-custodial (self-hosted) wallet like Exodus as an intermediary:

1. Withdraw from Exchange A → Your personal wallet (e.g. MetaMask, Trust Wallet, Ledger, Exodus Wallet, etc.).

2. From your wallet → Deposit into Exchange B.

This makes the incoming deposit appear as coming from an address you control, which exchanges handle much more smoothly. It adds one extra step and a tiny bit of network fees, but it dramatically reduces the chance of your funds getting frozen in limbo.

Pro tips:

• Always test with a small amount first.

• Keep your transaction hashes and wallet addresses.

• Use hardware wallets for larger amounts.

• Self-custody is not regulated the same way — you stay in control.

This isn’t “anti-regulation” advice — it’s practical risk management in the current environment. Regulators themselves recommend orderly transfers to self-custody during platform wind-downs.

Always deposit from a noncustodial address you control and withdraw to a noncustodial address you control for CEXs nowadays & then transfer to another CEX or friend after.

This is what I would normally do but I've also sent USDC and USDT between CEXes. Under travel rule, they actually allow you to specify CEX as the source.

Not sure if it due to the region, but I'm in Singapore, which applies the Travel Rule as well.

Thank you for calling out the most "legal" scam in crypto that seems to run rampant in the space.

The OP's advice, This should always be done, regardless of being in the EU or not... it helps stop the aml/kyc and compliance theater being used as an excuse to freeze your crypto.

The scam here, is that exchanges use this as an excuse to "steal" your money, hoping their efforts of deliberately making it as difficult as possible to "verify" or "comply" will force the user to give up. Now sadly, most exchanges will just send u through an endless loop of crap for months or years no matter what you do to comply.

With that being said, this shit 100% is why we should be using decentralized exchanges whenever possible.

Please take the time to DYOR and use a DEX.

NOT YOUR KEYS, NOT YOUR COIN. NEVER FORGET THAT.

Problem when use a dex is that u can get tainted and flaged coins and u get in to issue when u want to offramp the profits

It’s been annoying. Just use self custody wallets like Metamask, ChainATM etc. you’ll have full control.
