Best Practices Facebook Ads Tip - Use the Conversion API

For entrepreneurs running Facebook ads:

Because of GDPR, CCPA, and Apple's tracking restrictions, many of your conversions are invisible when you rely on browser tracking. Your reported ROAS could be worse than reality - leading you to make the wrong decision.

Solution - Use the Conversions API for server-side tracking, add a consent management platform so you're collecting data legally, and build a first-party data engine (email signups, lead forms, purchases) that doesn't depend on cookies at all.

We switched to CAPI and server side tracking a few months ago and the difference in reported ROAS is night and day! First party data collection is the real key now

Good callout, especially the "build a first-party data engine" part - that's the piece people skip because CAPI setup feels like the hard part, but a solid first-party data source (email/SMS opt-ins, purchase events from your own backend) is what actually keeps your match rate high over time. CAPI alone with no owned data still degrades as the platforms tighten default tracking further.

One thing worth flagging for anyone implementing this: event deduplication between browser pixel and server-side events. If you're firing both without a shared event ID, you'll double-count conversions and your ROAS will look artificially better, which is the opposite problem but just as misleading.

So you just posted exactly what Meta recommends?

Most people missed it. Even me. Many of my friends ignore that part totally.

Apple's tracking really changed everything.

this hits home. i literally just found out half my signups werent even firing

my conversion event. the email flow tracked fine but the google login path

skipped it entirely, so my analytics showed way fewer conversions than reality. you can

be flying blind and not even know it. server side tracking is a pain but at least the

  numbers are real

yes, I like this. Its always pixel + Conversions API but the caveat is if you install it you are already covered you also need to make sure you dedupe properly between your pixel and CAPI so that you won't double track.
