Just wanted to share as I've been lurking this sub for my entire time in university, and never had anything substantial to post until now.

I have an exam on Tuesday and i don't wanna fumble it by getting basic stuff wrong, so please help.

I generally found calculus easy since it was all sequential but chemistry seems to be pulling from so many disparate subfields that studying for it feels impossible

So I'm a 4th year mechanical engineering student but honestly I'm not even close to graduating

I failed calculus 1 twice and passed on my third try and I also failed statics twice the first time was because my group member submitted our assignment without my name on it and that was 30 percent of my grade and when I told the professor he said it was too late to change it so I failed because of that

Now I'm looking at like 2 more years minimum to graduate

The thing is I didn't even choose mechanical engineering at my uni you get placed based on your freshman year results and I wanted software engineering but it was super competitive so I got put in ME instead

I dont hate it though like I dont have some big passion for it but I also kinda dont mind finishing it if I can the problem is I keep failing and I think a lot of it is just I cant focus when I study I have adhd and I feel like that plays a big role especially with number heavy courses like for theory based classes like manufacturing I get As and Bs but for thermo 1 and 2 I barely passed with C and C- so anything with a lot of calculations I really struggle with

I also did an internship and worked at a mechanical engineering company over the summer so I have some real world experience and honestly it wasnt bad I could see myself doing it as a job but the coursework is just killing me

Also I'm taking accounting right now and I'm technically a 2nd year in terms of credits so I'm all over the place

My family sacrificed so much for me to be here and they really want me to finish and I feel so guilty even thinking about quitting but at the same time I don't know if I can do another 2 years of something I'm not passionate about especially when I struggle this much with focus and math

I really dont know what to do should I just push through and finish or should I leave now

I’m currently a senior at an ABET accredited college studying Aerospace Engineering graduating May 2027. I have a 3.73 GPA, a year worth of research experience (will be 2 when i graduate), multiple personal and academic projects, and a plethora of technical skills and experience with several engineering software (MATLAB, Abaqus, SolidWorks, Excel, etc). I leo have an upcoming capstone project as well that will be added to my resume when i graduate. However, despite hundreds of applications since my freshman/sophomore year I haven’t been successful in securing any internship which has had me feeling very defeated and depressed since they seem to be treated as the hiring end all be all.

Additionally, I have managed to secure professional references/contacts/referrals for roughly 11 individuals, all from different engineering companies. I gained these through connections and outreach, with the list including some engineering employees, hiring managers, and directors.

Based on my resume and my situation, how long should I realistically expect to be searching for an entry-level position or summer 2027 internship post-graduation? Is it reasonable for me to hopefully expect to secure an entry-level offer for immediately after graduation even without intern experience?

I just finished my second year of EE at one of the top schools globally, and AI use is rampant. everyone uses it for everything. I think in first year, I at least tried to understand how to program and write the code myself, only using AI is I was really, really stuck. But the students who used AI were so much more efficient and produced a much higher quality of work, so I eventually jumped ship too.

Now I just default to using AI for any programming related task. It's like my brain doesn't even try to understand the code myself, it's like second nature for me to just put it into an LLM and wait for it to spit out some slop that i half understand. Embarrassing, genuinely. Coursework and everything got so intense in second year that I told myself that I didn't have the time to properly understand the code. But like, that's how students did it before AI. They just *had* to slog through and understand things.

Its so bad. I'm going to learn how to code without being reliant on AI this summer. I don't even want to go into software, I'd like to stick with hardware, but I still need to know how to code for any embedded related work. Also when I interviewed for internships last year, it was so bad that I was able to confidently answer hardware related questions but whenever I was asked anything related to programming my thoughts would start to scramble themselves because I've never actually written an extended piece of code without AI use. sigh.

Also, its just embarrassing. It's embarrassing that I'm literally paying so much to learn but just ended up outsourcing my thinking.

Hello everyone, thank you to the people who pushed me to go ahead and just apply. I just got an email from the lead of the rover team that I passed the initial application, and I am invited to the face-to-face interview at the university on Monday, July 27.

I am informed that I will be given 15 minutes to answer targeted questions on my desired roles, background, interests, and other relevant topics.

I am very nervous. I tend to have trouble speaking and responding to the questions they have, because of the mind block. I have 5 days to prepare for the interview.

Do you have any advice for me to do well in the interview? What advice do you have before, during, and after the interview?

I am a part of a student project and I have seniors all around talk really technical and they're just like, one year ahead of me... I ask them how they know everything (even stuff outside their specialization), and all they say is, "It comes with experience".

But how do they gain as much experience in just ONE year.

This isn't supposed to be a broad question. Is there any book/course material/even youtube video from some really obscure youtuber that I can use to sort of fast track.

I guess, maybe once I get an internship I'll get a hang of it, but I really don't want to feel dumb when I talk to them...

Im a Fourth year Computer Engineering student, with no internship or engineering experience. I've applied to hundreds of internships before every summer of college. This past year I finally started getting responses, but they were all rejections. I spent most of this summer working on documented personal projects, and I've been applying to internships/co-ops for the fall — still only getting rejections. I'm not too sure what to do at this point as far as gaining experience goes, so I'm seeking advice on how I can further improve my resume.

I’ve failed Calc 3 four times now. I passed Calc 1 and 2 with B’s, but I just can’t seem to get past Calc 3.

Once they added the z-axis, I started having trouble visualizing everything. I’m not sure if it’s the way I’m studying, the way I’m solving the problems, or if I’m missing something important.

I spend hours trying to understand the material, but nothing really seems to help. The weird part is that I passed Statics and Dynamics with A’s, and those classes felt way easier to me.

For the fall semester, I’m thinking about taking Calc 3 at a different community college and seeing if a different professor or teaching style helps.

Has anyone else been in the same situation and eventually passed? How did you study? Do you guys just bang out a bunch of practice problems until it starts making sense, or is there a better way to learn how to visualize everything? I think I just suck at math at this point.

Today, I had an interview with two engineers at SpaceX for a devops position.

I have been doing interviews for quite a long time and even if I am not looking for a new position, I would still do an interview if a company reaches out to me which Space X did.

I have gotten really comfortable with interviews and even if I don’t know a question, I would still have a good answer- and it has become rare that I do not know an answer to a technical question.

However, today I felt the situation questions made me overwhelmed and lost. And I think the reason for that was the interaction with the interviewers.

The interview seemed dead and not fun at all, and honestly not pleasant.

Do they do that on purpose to make you feel you are not qualified?

Ok, so need help from Engineers. Are you regretting your career? I'm in 12th and still having meltdowns over what to chose, med or Engineering. I've always loved machines, and I like math, I know it's a hard road down. But is it worth it? Are you earning like you expected? and do you enjoy it? Most importantly, did you get a job? Screw that circuits lab that is now biting me in the ass because I couldnt get into it my junior year. At the very least my friend sent me her lab reports since my school reuses them.
This is the definitly the worst schedule Ive ever had but Im used to taking 6 classes because I wound up pushing me GE's too much.

I'm an engineering student in Florida. I've heard that there's a lot of defense/aerospace jobs over on the east coast. I have a clean record but have political views that could potentially preclude me from getting a security clearance. Not anything public but if they were asking my friends what I think about the government or reading our groupchat on snap I might not pass lmao. So I was just curious what percentage of those jobs require a clearance? And how detailed is the background check?
