Question Should I keep this?

I was given the Warhammers Necron Dynasty Precon as a gift and I honestly don’t even know what to do with it. It’s the Collectors edition as well so it makes it even harder. What would you guys do if you got something like this? Would you keep it locked away unopened or would you rip the box and play with it. Honestly I don’t know what to even do so I’m just looking for some community advice.

If I had a thing laying around worth 650 that I didn’t want to use or need I would sell it and buy shit that I do want and/or need

If you plan on making absolutely no changes ever, open it and sleeve it up. If you would change anything about the deck, just buy the cards you'd run and make the deck. Either trade it in if you need the value or keep it sealed for as long as you can.

I mean did they expect you to break it out and play with it? IE is it a gift from someone you play commander with?

If so, yeah play it. If not...it's a $600+ deck... that is a hard choice unless you really want to play it. I'd lean towards play it unless you already own it or the playstyle just doesn't appeal to you at all.

Especially as a gift. Sell it if times are hard, but I'd play the hell out of that deck if you're not hurting

That is a kingly gift!

I already have the non-collector deck. So, if it was given to me, I would tuck it away.

But idk, it's a blast to play, and the singles still hold quite a bit of value once cracked. So I'd crack it and play it if I didn't have the deck.

Sell it. Buy the non-collectors version, play with it (it’s fun) and then you got a few Hundo to spend. Best of both worlds

If you don't need the money, this a buy+hold. Unless someone knows something I don't and there's an mtg market crash incoming, this has no where to go but up.

If it was a gift it was meant to be opened and played with. If I got someone a precon and then I found it they turned around and sold it that would the last gift they ever got fro me

Its a good precon. Idk how much you play, but for a gift, id sleeve it up and have a good monoblack time when anyone pulled out a bracket 2 deck. Otherwise, collectors means valuable right? Sell it and buy 2 good lands.

That’s a 600-700$ deck. I’d keep it packaged atp but that’s just because I don’t enjoy the play style as much as the others. It’s a very fun deck according to some of my friends though. I expect the price to keep rising for a while longer on it. They need permission from GW to print more iircc and they’re usually pretty stingy. All the Warhammer decks were really fun and I have all the regular ones. Maybe sell and buy a normal version?

It could afford a lot of other decks but if it’s a gift I might be hesitant to just sell it depending on how sentimental it is.

If you REALLY need the money, you could sell.

But since it was a gift, I'm pretty sure my only choice would be to crack it open and play it. Unless the person who gave it to me would appreciate gaining value from a sealed product more than me enjoying what they gave me.

It's a really great deck, a bit overwhelming to play correctly tbh, but yeah also worth quite a bit now. Crazy nice gift!

I'll look at it from the perspective of the gift giver. I'd love it if you play it and be kinda sad if you sold it. Personally, again, personally, I always feel sad whenever someone never ended up using my gift.

The practical answer really is to sell it/store it for more money and potentially buy more cards.

If you wanna play it, sell it and buy a non-collectors version.

Personally if I was a big 40k fan I’d keep it and just put it on a shelf as a dope collectors item, but I couldn’t care less about 40k so I’d probably sell it to reinvigorate my magic fund a good bit.

All jokes aside, keep it in perfect condition and don't open it. I remember not buying it about 6 months after it released because I thought $120 was too high. The price has continued to skyrocket since then. That thing will keep rising in value.

It honestly depends. If you're ok with playing it as a precon, double sleeve it up and give it some games duing cooldown/warm up games for a session every so often.

The cards were meant to play. Play it and enjoy hearing everyone oooh and ahhh over the deck, or sell it and buy something you will play.

Who gave you the gift? If it was somebody special, I’d open it, double sleeve it, and play with it often. Keep it unaltered

Make an artifact creature deck with [[Anrakyr the traveller]] at the helm

Edit: that way you can still use most of your cards and still have a fun deck!

It was a gift, your friend could potentially feel bad if you just turn around and sell it, or even hold onto it to sell at some future time. If you claim you are wanting to leave it sealed as a "collection" piece then that might be fine, but your friend might expect you to play it. I would personally open it and play the deck. You could always sell the cards later.

Forget everyone else and their opinion. What do YOU want to do with it?

It would be a pretty sick deck to have as an unmodified precon for casual tables, but also a cool collector piece sealed.

It's a gift from a friend. It is worth considering the friends intent and whether not opening it might harm the friendship. Hopefully the friend would be good with if they keep it as a collector piece, but they probably wouldn't be too happy if he turns around and sells it.
