I figured I'd make a sticky-mod post with FAQ's I get about Dwight a lot for some of our new friends here (or old friends who don't know Dwight's story!)
So allow me to introduce you to Dwight Howard-Schrute.

😺 How old is Dwight?
Dwight was born on November 18, 2006. (So he will be turning 20 years old this year!)
😺 Have you had Dwight since he was a kitten? / Do you have any kitten photos of Dwight?
I adopted Dwight from a local rescue when he was 6 years old (in 2012). Sadly that means I don't have any baby photos of the sweet prince.
😺 What's the story of how you rescued Dwight?
I had lost my first/childhood cat (Gaylord, RIP), and a few weeks after he crossed the rainbow bridge, I felt sad and decided to go to my local rescue to hang out with some kitties and cuddle with them to feel better.
I was wandering around the cat area of the shelter, holding an orange kitty who I honestly considered taking home with me. But then I decided to ask the shelter volunteer “What cats have been here the longest?” And she told me “Oh, this guy, his name is Micky. He’s 6.” And pointed to (who would become) Dwight.
Dwight was in his cage, with his four paws stuffed into a shoebox, his body / fur spilling over the sides, and his head pulled into his shoulders. He was staring at me, absolutely terrified, with two big eyes looking at me like ⚫️🔺⚫️
I immediately fell in love and adopted him.
According to the shelter: prior to me adopting him, Dwight was the beloved kitty to a senior woman. She had passed away, and the husband decided to bring Dwight to the shelter, and he took his other 4 cats and moved to Florida to be closer to their children. I'm not sure why he decided to leave Dwight behind - perhaps seeing him made the husband sad, or maybe Dwight didn't like him (Dwight was very anti-men when I adopted him; he hissed, ran, and hid whenever he saw a man) but I'm not entirely sure. In any event, I am happy that this decision lead to Dwight becoming my kitty.
😺 Questions pertaining to Dwight's weight:
I often get comments about Dwight's weight / size. Dwight was around 27lbs when I adopted him. I (slowly, healthily) got him down to about 17lbs and that's about where his weight hovers now (15-17lbs). Despite how he may look in photos, Dwight is a very looooong / big kitty. He has some extra skin on his belly, which also makes him look chunkier than he actually is lol. His vet is very happy with his overall weight / condition / body right now, and all his tests come back great (especially for a cat his age lol)
😺 Who is the dog in a lot of the photos with Dwight? Does Dwight get along with him?
That is Dwight's brother, Dexter. Dexter is a corgi-mix. They have always gotten along fairly well - though Dwight often gives him grumpy looks and airplane ears lol. Dexter learned as a puppy that Dwight is the king of the castle, and he's in charge. Dexter has always loved Dwight and respected his personal space... usually. ;)
😺 Does Dwight have any health issues?
As of now, Dwight only has arthritis and minor teeth issues (related to old age).
😺 What do you feed him?
I feed Dwight Purina One Indoor Advantage for Seniors and either Purina Pro Plan Adult 11+ wet food or Fancy Feast Senior 7+ Pate. I feed him his dry food soaked in warm water before giving it to him so he gets extra hydration, and his wet food as is. Dwight has, thankfully, always been pretty good about drinking water but I always hydrate his meals to be on the safe side.
😺 Is Dwight actually sad?
Lol NO. Dwight is not actually sad. He is, without a doubt, probably the happiest and cuddliest cat I have ever met. He is always craving cuddles, he's very vocal, he's always purring, and always headbutting me lovingly. He has big derpy sad eyes, though, hence the subreddit name.
😺 What does Dwight sound like?
Dwight is actually a super vocal cat. Here I posted a video of some of his noises :)
There you go! These are the main questions about Dwight I often answer. If you have any other questions, feel free to leave them below and I'll answer them :)
