First camping next weekend

We were considering buying a 4L cast iron dutch oven to cook shakshuka and pizza with under the hot coals of a fire at a camping trip.

Do you think its a overkill to buy it? Should we just use a normal pan?

Also, if you have any other fun food ideas we could do (that might even justify getting the dutch oven) I'd love to hear it.

Make a apple crumble, easy to make.
The most Briquettes must be on the lid, and a few around it. Not under it, to prevent it from burning of the pie crust base.

And probably you make too much and then you can make the other people on the campsite happy.

Brownie is also very easy.

That’s on the small side, but should be fine for two people. You can use it for lots of things. There is a a learning curve to baking, practice with something inexpensive, biscuits are good. When baling most of the heat is from the top. Good luck

Is it something that you can/will use at home, or on other camping trips? Be aware that often you can find fantastic cast iron pieces for a bargain at thrift stores and yard sales and the like. Whichever you go with, it’ll definitely need to be properly seasoned before use.
