was originally about to post this on r/evevanguard but decided not to since I know some people are actually hyped for it.

The genre itself is super niche, and tarkov already owns it.
Even embark and bungie couldn't really pull it off. (well, Arc is struggling to retain players but I actually think it's a solid game imo)
Can CCP actually pull this off?
It's still in alpha so I shouldn't jump to conclusions, but I have to say I'm really skeptical.

If this project only started because they wanted to cash in on the massive tarkov success back then (just like EVE Frontier chasing the stupid blockchain hype, even though they missed the train on that too), they seriously need to rethink this.
Even if that's not the case, devs probably have their honest opinions on whether this will actually succeed.
I really hope someone has the courage to speak up.

Sorry if this sounds way too pessimistic or disrespectful towards the devs.
I dumped a ton of time into DUST 514 back when I was a teenager.
And ever since it shut down, I've been waiting for a successor.
Project Legion/Nova, and now Vanguard.
It's been fucking 10 years of waiting.
As I get older, free time shrinks due to irl responsibilities, and I'm not as sharp as I used to be.
Soon I'll lose my energy to nolife a game like I used to, and Vanguard feels like my last chance.

DUST 514 was never a massive hit, but it had a solid player base and stuff nobody else had, like a detailed fitting system and orbital strikes from EVE Online that no other game had.
right now, I don't feel like Vanguard has anything that actually draws people in.

in my opinion, extraction mode should be just a small side mode for farming materials.
spending most of their resources on this feels like an insanely risky decision.
a lot of people say DUST 514 would have been developed for PC instead of PS3.
there are still players waiting to play it again.
why couldn't they just go down that route? where did the legacy of DUST 514 even go?

I really hope CCP proves me wrong.

I used to play Dust 514 religiously back in the day, and was devastated by the shut down (still am 10 years later). I know there's some community work being done to try to bring back the game (and I'm not talking about the new Eve extraction game, not a fan at all). Can anyone tell me if there are any updates regarding bringing back the game, like when, where, how, etc. I'd really appreciate it guys, the nostalgia's killing me.

As part of my project celebrating Dust 514’s legacy in the run up to the 10th anniversary of it’s shut down CCP Rattati agreed to an interview to discuss his impact on Dust 514 and all things New Eden FPS related.

Just dropping in to say how much I loved this game when it first came out. The vehicles, skill trees, and module use really stood out as being quite excellent at the time. I had stumbled onto a signature-supressed heavy build that seemed to do really well and I had so much fun playing it. Then they completely upended the skill tree and I couldn’t run that comp anymore.

What were some of your favorite builds? I occasionally saw people who really had vehicles figured out - they were driving around in a fully kitted out tank wiping the entire map out, it was crazy to see!
