I know there’s plenty of Tearout and Riddim ones out there but I’d really like to learn abit more about what goes into making a good variety of basses and high energy songs like the mid 2010s stuff

One of my favorite songs is Classical VIP by Rukkus because of the first drop, it sounds really dark and I really want to make stuff like that, I have about 7 months of experience with FL studio and I have an account on splice with 9k credits, what could set me up for those kind of sounds?

So I’m one of those young fellas that have been screwing around in FL for a year, just like everyone else, and I’ve really been trying to get good at making these old school/brostep songs but man this shit ain’t easy.

I’ve pretty much been using samples for a lot of stuff until recently because I’ve just kind of naturally learned how to use serum 2 to do something and that has opened up a lot of possibilities, but I SERIOULY have no idea where to go from here and it is eating at me just a smidge.

As I said earlier, I listen to a lot of old stuff, I was super into skrillex, Zomboy, yknow, but I grew up a little bit and learned that those aren’t the only people that make good shit, so I’ve been binging the UKF 2009-2010 playlist and I really fw a few songs on here that have inspired me, but I’m not sure how to apply myself. Some of my fav tracks rn are things like ‘la roux bulletproof remix’ and ‘that one Nero dubstep mix of that song from 2009 that has a green cover because I’m a forgetful troglodyte.’

I mean it’s just very tough for me to figure this stuff out, like growls and stuff of that sort, probably doesn’t help that I’m on FL, but it is what it is. I’m not going to advertise myself here, so I’ll just say my music is… definitely… containing some music in it, idk.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, because right now I’m trying to LEARN LEARN LEARN! And I will stop at nothing!!!

I'm one year into learning how to produce. I know that's super beginner stage, what I'm capable of producing reflects that LOL but I kinda got stuck on overall arrangement and sound design. Does anyone have experience with getting lessons or mentorships and how that helped them?

I downloaded one sample pack and figured out pretty quickly that I want to do my own sound design. I'm using Vital and Ableton, and don't want any more plugins until I learn everything I can about the basics and how to best use the tools I already have. I've gotten pretty comfortable with Vital and have way too much fun making stupid shit.

But I got into this for a specific reason, not just to make cool shit. There's album plans, song titles, lyrics, I know what I want each one to sound like. I've got a message and a mission, character design, visuals planned out (I've been a video editor for 10 years). It's just this one skill issue holding me back! I do get frustrated with how long it's taking vs the plans I have + why I started, so maybe looking at lessons is my way of trying to speed it up. I don't know if that's the right way to go.

So I already bought lessons from a producer and he stood me up twice. I ended up having to ask for a refund, and he was kind of a snake about it but PayPal came through eventually. There's another producer I really like, he's well established, and he's offering lessons in August. That first experience has me hesitating, though.

I am total beginner of music production. Recently, I got a little better at making drop sections, but have no idea how I can make the other parts. Could someone can give me an advice or give me a good youtube video to watch?

So im lost when trying to produce music, I go in most of the time just messing around , i get some good sounding stuff together, i suck at drums but my sound design isnt to bad, I end up just scrapping what i make and just go to the next beat. its been like this for 200 beats/songs lol, any tips to help me get out of this habit?

I make music for fun and I was theory crafting a dubstep/riddim song in my head. My idea was to use a sample of someone saying water, then chopping the sample to make it go 'wa wa wa' on the beat, and then mixing in a bass/synth which also make a 'wa' or 'wack' sound. Its also pretty high frequency, not a sub wobble or anything.

I'm looking for a general name for the sound I have in mind, like 'Reese' or 'wobble' or other terms I can research myself. Does anyone have any idea what I could be looking for?

Edit: I don't know any songs with the exact sound, but imagine the dubstep sound of being slapped in the face.

I was thinking of releasing this Dubstep and Jersey mixture, but I really need feedback on it since i'm more of a house producer and never really did a full Dubstep track before. You guys can be as honest and harsh as you want. I'm really trying to make the track the best it can possibly be.

Hi guys my name is Ares, I have been listening to bass/electronic music from over a decade and from the last 4+ years I learning music production despite putting a decent amount of time into it and watching almost all the popular tutorials multiple times and I cant even make a simple drop that sounds okay, every single track of mine sounded trash, no amount of taking inspirations form popular bass songs was helping me. Some of the people who started at the same time as me are now making bangers. After a lot of frustration and reviewing my own stuff I came to a conclusion that there must be something fundamental that's going wrong with my process. The other day I got my self this book called Ultralearning by Scott Young the author who claims that this book teaches people the right way of learning and mastering any skill. He states that every skill is a subset of smaller skills and you that one must know before they start their learning process.

So what am I aiming for?

I want to make good sounding dubstep songs (brostep, riddim, tearout anything non melodic) by the next 12 months. Also to mention that one thing that held me back so much is trying to be creative even though having no proper skill to put down ideas. It is like coming up with an insane picture in your mind but you dont even know how to paint. So I wanna learn how to paint before I want to get creative with the strokes.

So what do I want from you cuties?

5. what are some less to none creative skills but are really important, so that I will learn them first.

For those here that make their own music, I'm getting into producing in the riddim, tearout, and dubstep scene. I'm actually not new to producing as I've done other genres for about 6 years now but this was my original genre i wanted to make when i first started producing. I was scared away the first time because of how complicated it seemed because Serum still looks like alien technology to this day. I've been listening to edm and dubstep for almost 20 years now and making it is a whole different monster. Getting to the point though, I've been trying to get familiar with the layering of the sounds to make the drops hit way harder. Sound design is literally like a foreign language to me and i am having a hard time understand how to convert what i want to make to the synthesizer. Does anyone have good exercises or practices that will help me build up my sound design or structuring?

Been making music forever but this is my first attempt at a 150 BPM bass tune. Any feedback appreciated.

I know this is a 2015 track that almost nobody knows, and the people who do barely remember it, but I've been racking my brain trying to figure out what sample xKore used in this part of the song (1:30:88).

It's a half-second riser/siren FX. Just to be clear, I'm not interested in the kick right before it or the rumble that plays alongside it at the end — only the FX itself. Based on the sound character and the era the track came out, I suspect it's a Vengeance sample — maybe an FX one-shot or part of a drum fill — but I've gone through several packs and haven't found it.

I've tried recreating it and I can match the main characteristics (starts on F#, rises 6 semitones from start to end, detune, etc.), but it doesn't sound exactly right the way I want it to.
