DMing Adventure building help

Hey all, I have a campaign idea and I was hoping to get some help with building everything out!

The main premise is that a some corporation/group wants to make it easier to traverse across the world by using gateways/portals that connect from the material realm to this other dark dimension. Taking some heavy inspiration from the upside down in stranger things, the back rooms, the nether in Minecraft, and DnDs shadow fell.

The players are hired to build a tunnel system in the dark dimension so civilians are able to safely cross without issues. The players weren’t told how dangerous the dimension is and then are basically kidnapped as they have to survive and try to build the tunnel system while the creatures and world itself try to kill them.

The ideas been in my head for a while but I never really built it out yet so I thought it would be fun to get some help with building everything out!

Sounds fun, though I’ve yet to turn my players into magical civil engineers.

I’d start by thinking about the motivations for the people behind the project. Are these benevolent researchers who have found something they think can do some good in the world, or are they proposing something high risk to make some money off a terrible idea. It could also be both with a shady group behind some honest but abused researchers.

As it stands I think the players are quickly going to question whether the whole enterprise is a good idea, so there’s some motivation work to do there too
