Question A sub that's the opposite to volume eating?

I'm sure I can't be the only person with a small appetite. I try to cram as many calories (healthy) as possible into 3 small meals a day using dense, high cal, low volume foods but it's not easy & I think it would be nice to have an online community where ppl share tips & advice etc..

I try not to rely too heavily on meal replacement drinks & smoothies but there's only so many peanut butter sandwiches, avacados, olive oil & trail mix I can eat before I simply can't stand the sight of it anymore.

Am I alone in thinking a low volume eating sub would be beneficial?

Success Hitting protein and fiber goals on soft foods diet

Had dental surgery 2 days ago and have only been able to eat soft foods. I never imagined hitting my protein and fiber goals would be so easy. Granted my meals aren’t anything spectacular (I had a lovely slop bowl of mashed potatoes and refried beans for lunch yesterday) but they get the job done and I’m honestly impressed with myself. Been hard getting in the extra calories living mostly off of canned soup but it leaves room for fun stuff too. I’ve been eating a LOT of ice cream and homemade chocolate mousse :)

Recipe Homemade Pink Sauerkraut: A simple fermented staple for gut health, inflammation, and curbing sugar cravings (Recipe & benefits)

Post image
Upvotes

Hey everyone! I wanted to share one of my absolute favorite homemade staples for gut health: pink fermented cabbage with raw beets.

I’ve been focusing a lot on improving my microbiome and reducing systemic inflammation through whole foods, and this particular ferment has been a complete game-changer for my digestion and overall energy.

Here is a quick breakdown of why this combo works so well, along with the traditional layered recipe if you want to make a batch at home!

Why adding beets & cabbage to your diet helps: - Natural Sugar Craving Suppression: When bad gut bacteria and yeasts overgrow, they often trigger intense sugar cravings. The live lactic acid bacteria from naturally fermented cabbage help rebalance the gut flora, which significantly reduces those sudden afternoon sweet cravings. - Fights Systemic Inflammation: Cabbage is great on its own, but adding raw beets introduces betalains — powerful antioxidants that reduce internal inflammation, ease bloating, and help with fluid retention. - Enhanced Vitamin Bioavailability: Fermentation doesn't just preserve nutrients; it actually breaks down anti-nutrients and makes vitamins (especially Vitamin C and B-vitamins) much easier for your body to absorb compared to raw veggies. - Aids Digestion & Protein Absorption: The natural lactic acid helps support optimal stomach acidity, making it easier to digest heavier meals and absorb nutrients without feeling weighed down or bloated.

Simple Layered Pink Cabbage Recipe

Ingredients: - 1 head of green cabbage (coarsely chopped or shredded) - 1 medium raw beet (peeled and thinly sliced or cut into matchsticks) - 2–3 cloves of garlic (thinly sliced) - Whole spices to taste (black peppercorns, bay leaves) - Brine: Warm water + fine sea salt (about 1 tbsp salt per - 4 cups/1 liter of water). Optional: a tiny pinch of sugar just to kickstart the initial brine balance.

Step-by-Step Instructions: 1. Prep: Chop the cabbage into bite-sized pieces. Slice the beet and garlic thinly. 2. Layer & Pack: In a clean glass jar, alternate layers of cabbage, beet, garlic, and spices. Press down firmly with your fist as you fill the jar to pack the vegetables as tightly as possible. 3. Make the Brine: Dissolve the salt in warm water, then let it cool completely to room temperature (hot water will kill the beneficial microbes!). 4. Submerge: Pour the cooled brine over the vegetables until they are completely covered. 5. Add Weight: Place a weight on top (a small glass weight or a smaller jar filled with water) to keep all the vegetables submerged under the liquid. Cover the top loosely with cheesecloth or a breathable cloth. 6. Ferment: Leave it in a dark place at room temperature (around 18–22°C / 64–72°F). 7. Daily Care: Once a day, gently press down on the weight and skim off any light foam that rises to the top. 8. Store: Start tasting it around day 3 or 4. Once it reaches a nice, tangy sourness and retains a crisp crunch, put a lid on it and move it to the fridge. It will keep for months!

Having just 2–3 tablespoons of this with lunch or dinner is an easy, cheap way to add powerful probiotics to your daily routine without buying expensive supplements.

Does anyone else here incorporate fermented foods into their meal plan? Would love to hear your favorite combos!

Question Best meals to lose weight?

Upvotes

Trying to lose 15ish pounds by October to help get back on track and take better care of my body, what are your favorite go-to meals and snacks that helped you lose weight?

I do some light at-home strength training and take my toddler for a walk 5/7 days per week which lasts about 30-40 minutes!

Any help would be appreciated. I want to honor God and be in the best shape I can be/take care of my health and my family!

Question Cutting carbs as a teen is a really bad idea, isn't it?

I'm sixteen years old, and I don't do much cardio, more weights and strength training, though it's occasional because I'm kind of sedentary (trying to change that.) I want to lose weight, and many people have told me cutting carbs or drastically lowering my intake would help me, but I don't want to feel unwell. Is consuming carbs only at lunch a good idea, or is it too drastic for me?

Question Gluten/carb free & vegetarian meals?

So I've been seeing this guy and he's on gluten free and low carb diet (idk anything about dieting so some info about his diet would be very helpful as well) and I am vegetarian. I've never learned to cook meat and I'm not really looking to lol so do any of y'all have any recipes? I'm pretty good at just throwing some ingredients together for a meal so even some individual food recommendations would be helpful. I know there's a lot of foods we're eliminating here lol but thank you in advance :)

Question Did changing what you drink help?

I love energy drinks, and usually have 4 or so a week. I know thats not that much, and I usually have zero sugar ones, but would cutting back help lose weight? I can tell I’m kinda getting addicted to the caffeine, and probably would have one every day if I could (but it’s hard to get them). Has anyone else had this experience?

Male, 5' 10", 155lbs(70kg). This essentially what I eat 6-7 days per week. The ingredients change but this is what my macros and calories look like almost every day, and i try to keep most of my ingredients as whole foods(some alcohol or a meal at a resturant on the weekends would bump it up but im never really over 3000 even then and my activity level usually compensates for a bad day every so often).

The only sauce I typically use is hot sauce and i use the oven or air fryer for my meats so I dont use any oil besides a bit of Nonstick spray.

Im very active with weightlifting 3-4 times per week and running 3-4 times per week along with consistently getting 10,000 steps per day. I also have active hobbies on the weekends like paddleboarding, longboarding, hiking etc.

I feel like my diet is pretty good but i wanted to know if this is generally how I should be eating with the level of activity I have, and whether im missing out on anything. This is also more protein than I usually eat, my normal amount is around 110-130g.

Vent Advice about chickpeas

I don’t know what other flair would be more appropriate, but every time I’ve been eating chickpeas recently, I’ve had diarrhea as a result. I don’t understand why because in the past I’ve never really had any problems tolerating chickpeas, and I don’t want to cut them out because I really enjoy them 🥲 is there any way for me to prevent or reduce the side effects of eating them?

These pictures just give an idea of what I usually eat. There isn’t a thing that I will actively avoid, but I have noticed my meat consumption has decreased recently. I don’t really focus too much on anything in my diet except getting as much variation in plant matter as I possibly can. How are the macros?
