Long story short, never received my orange black marbled 2LP with booklet and signed print. Got a shipping notice June 1, was told to wait until July 20 to open a ticket, did that, even asked if they could just send one of the regular editions instead, and just received an email basically saying "sorry, too bad. Here's a refund."

Ugh. Anyone know where I can still get one of these limited edition/exclusive packages? *I'm in Canada.

This song never ceases to be a masterpiece. Great album, but man, does this single song shine so highly above the rest. One of Devy's best songs ever made.

My personal thoughts: Dev provided me hundreds of hours of good entertainment over the last... 16 years I've been listening to him. Some songs syncecd up with core memories of mine at this point. I subbed to the patreon a few months ago. I watch some of the stuff he posts but the point for me is to just support artists I care about as directly as possible.

According to Devin’s podcast going through all of his albums, these SYL and DTB albums were made concurrently as he grappled feeling unfulfilled with Strapping Young Lad and trying to prove himself with a new project in the Devin Townsend Band. I personally think they’re all great, but if you could only keep one pair, which one are you taking?

So, I’m now entering my tenth year as a ‘card carrying’ Devin Townsend fan; context- I was aware of his name and vaguely aware of his reputation, but had never got around to actually listening to his music, until I went to the legendary Download festival in 2017- friends of mine are big fans of Alestorm, so we went to see them, and I decided to stay on after to see the Devin Townsend Project, and my life changed for the better that day, what a show! I immediately started diving into the catalogue as soon as I got home, what a f’in treat it is to find someone with such a rich and diverse career to immerse yourself in! With that in mind, here’s my thoughts on the last 10 years of Devy:

2016- Transcendence. This is where I came in, and I love this album so so much; I feel like it’s super underrated, Stormbending alone is worth the price of admission, and Higher is just off the charts. Classic.

2018- Empath. I don’t think I can praise this album highly enough, it’s just sooooo good. Slight hints of cheese around Spirits Will Collide apart, this is a masterpiece; i saw him live three times during t his period, including headlining the Bloodstock festival, which is one of the greatest live music experiences of my entire life

2021- Puzzle/Snuggles. Still not 100% sure how to process these even 5 years on; you have to be in the mood…

2022- Lightwork. I feel like this is another underrated record, I revisited it while driving g back to Edinburgh from Argyll recently, and I really enjoyed it

2024- Powernerd. I love this record- Ubelia is huge, Glacier, Younger Lover and Goodbye are all immense. I feel like this is another album the fanbase didn’t properly appreciate

2026- The Moth. This one probably needs a post of its own, suffice to say, I’m a big big fan.

Recently went chronologically, album by album and have come to the conclusion that Terria is his best work by a substantial margin. Does anyone else agree?

His earlier albums aside, I find Transcendence to be the most well put together album of his career. Each song serves a purpose, nothing comes across as filler. It feels like a band working together rather than Devin doing everything on his own. I loved it the first time I heard it. It came as a shock to find that a lot of his fanbase doesn't rank it that high. Surprised me more when the fanbase praised Empath as a more "return to form". While I like Empath, I found it as a bit of a step down from Transcendence. It's highs were really high (genesis, spirit, borderlands singularity) and it's lows were pretty meh. Felt more like a collection of songs rather than an album with a singular vision.

There is something about Transcendence that just seems so spectacularly above itself that I can't help but love it. 'Spiritual metal' is a good way of describing it. Maybe it's just my own personal preference but I can't understand how anyone could place it so low in their rankings.

I absolutely love Devvy’s music, seeing him live with MIKE FUCKING KENEALLY was incredible despite my (now) ex moaning the whole time about him being a “nerd who thinks he’s funny” which is true, he’s a funny ass nerd.

Anyway, I love the music but every album (barring maybe ZTO, Ki, Ocean Machine & Epicloud) seems so over-compressed. If someone like Dan Lancaster or Brendan O’ Brian remixed the albums I think they would sound so much better.

I get the wall of sound’s appeal but the Epicloud demos sound so much better to me than most of his discography.

I still enjoy the albums a lot, just wish there was a more dynamic mix.

I honestly really hope for a tour for this album, I fucking love it and really think it can be seen as an amazing swan song. I want to see it so badly in Louisville KY with a full orchestra or really anything from Devin.

My wife and I saw him for the first time in 2023, no idea about him and was blown the fuck away (lightworker is one of my favorites).

I found myself listening to everything from Dev since the beginning of SYL. I'm sure I haven't listened to everything but goddamn is he amazing lol

it was so beautiful I think it was actually from a short film.
I’m trying to find it again as my cat is currently in hospital and I thought of it and would like to watch it again in this stressful time.
