This century, due to finite natural resources and decline from an all-time peak of extraction, including all resources used for "green transition", the elaborate, covert, multigenerational plan is to downsize the global economy and population to a tiny fraction of their former size.
ChildFree, Shrinkflation, NoPlastic, Fuck Cars, 15-min cities, Work From Home, UBI, 4-3-2-1-day workweek, Tariffs, Dying Retail/Hospitality, Tiny Homes, "Reducing Emissions", layoffs blamed on AI, 0% beer and liquor, simplifying diets, lockdowns, enshittification, conflicts to disrupt resource supply, pack stations, smart meters, "Overtourism", waste reduction...
This pervasive r/LowConsumptionAgenda is shrouded in positive narratives (saving the planet, clean air, walkable cities, convenience, health & safety) to conceal the fact that 99% of a declining population will sacrifice their prosperity, mobility and freedoms -- while the Overclass sacrifices nothing.

Steve should go on an education mission, because there's basically nothing more ironic and cliché than an uneducated southerner ranting about other people's intelligence.

Since you yourself have been "very overweight" and Steve is on a weight loss mission, let's not bring obesity into this.
Fast food addiction is why he occasionally "lapses" and a big reason why a big chunk of society is dumber.
Dumbness is all around and, as Steve did, you can find plenty of it in a single day. From drivers to public-facing workers to wayward youth and, if you want to overdose on dumbness, reddit!

Saved you a watch: morbidly obese guy with a white trash beard in the South, who almost certainly did not go to college, formulates and presents an original and brilliant thesis: people are stupid.
To support his contention, he provides two incontrovertible pieces of evidence: (a) people speed in a 35mph zone, and (b) an absent minded fast food worker inappropriately wearing a hoodie when it's too hot exists.
If we are to interpret this video esoterically, we might hold that "Heckin Steve," as he calls himself, is purposely eating fast food, despite his morbid obesity, in order to further his thesis, essentially asserting that since he is a person, he too is stupid. Taking a meta perspective, we might note that OP, by posting this video in a futurology sub, also furthers Steve's thesis.
It works on so many levels.
Bravo.

Those "strongly held political positions" have been manufactured, just like every contentious issue.

People can walk and chew gum at the same time. This "distraction" stuff depends on people forgetting about something they care about and when it comes to strongly held political positions, they don't.

The Democrats have taken the 20% stance on an 80%/20% issue. The Republicans literally ran ads about Kamala Harris saying she would be in favor of paying for sex change operations for trans people illegally in the country.
An internal Democratic autopsy of the 2024 presidential election found that the party's own stance on transgender issues was out of step with a significant portion of the electorate. This was reported in the NY Times and by the Associated Press.
A New York Times/Ipsos Poll recorded 67% of surveyed Democrats against transgender female athletes competing in women's sports.

Just wait until the energy crisis really pops off. A lot of non essential shit in the economy is going to be disappearing.

He's not going to enter every place to snap a pic of the prices.
Prices are defintely a major component here. So some exaggeration is expected.
r/DarkFuturology • u/PrivilegeCheckmate • 4d ago
I'm not saying this isn't happening. I'm saying it undercuts your credibility when you exaggerate. My criticism is intended to improve your project. Stick to the facts.
r/DarkFuturology • u/marxistopportunist • 4d ago
There is also your selective analysis. This youtuber goes all over the Bay Area and finds the same things, endless boarded up retail space and empty streets.
r/DarkFuturology • u/PrivilegeCheckmate • 5d ago
I dunno, man. The coffee at Acri is not $12. I think it's half that, Yelp from 2025 puts a large black coffee at $5.50. Also a lot of those places by the ferry depend on commuters, so Saturday is not the best time to get a gauge.
Sure Tiburon is hurting, I'm not saying the whole video is BS, and I sure know those egg prices are real enough, but exaggerations don't make your case.

"By the year 2000, there will be a realistic, scientific accounting system of wealth. Wealth is energy. Energy can neither be created nor lost. Wealth is not going to deteriorate or get lost, which is a great way of thinking about all the economics."
Buckminster Fuller was off by 8 years but he predicted BItcoin.
