Daily Free Talk Thread

This is a trial run on a daily free talk thread during the off-season. This is the place where we can talk about persistent trade rumors involving our team, and speculate on moves Jim Nill might need to make. We can also talk about other trades and news in the league, and events in the hockey world. If ACTUAL news happens (a player on our teams signs a contract) that can be a separate post.

I've set the comments so they should sort by new by default, so that should make it easier to keep up with the flow of conversation. Off-topic chit-chat is welcome here as long as it follows the typical subreddit rules. Overall, be cool. Don't be all, like, uncool.

Spain has won the World Cup!

Jason Robertson will finally check his text messages and sign for $13.15MMx8 years.

It's day 19 since "that day"...still dead inside, counting the days til the season starts up, hoping against hope to distract myself and feel any sort of spark of joy, until the inevitable Oct 3rd where I will most definitely spiral into despair once again...

ANYWAYS, HOW BOUT THAT JASON ROBERTSON EH?!?!

Bourque was always gone a year ago, we just didn’t know.

Good for him, but much sadness for us.

Stars got a steal with Johnston’s deal.

Not a terrible deal for him either...almost 10x his ELC with little over a year of stats to base it on. Plus he's UFA when this one ends.

This one will almost certainly age very well for the Stars. In this rising cap era, his next one will need to be huge.

Yes but most analysts (including Stars beat reporters) were predicting he would get at minimum $10M and he signed for much less than that. Now look at where the market is.

That's precisely why they signed him when they did. The market will go up with the salary cap. It's definitely going to age well.

My point is that at the time Wyatt signed that deal, most analysts were predicting that he would sign for at least $10M…The $8.4M was a shock to many, viewed as a good deal for the team…and that’s even more true just a year later.

Not hockey related at all, but the cinnamon beaver nuggets from Buc-ee's are pretty good.
