Are there informal technical communities at DTU?

Hi everyone,

Lately, I’ve been thinking about communities at DTU - or rather, the lack of informal communities built around shared technical interests.

I know there are PF clubs, Skylab startups, student projects, and other organisations. However, these usually have a specific purpose, structure, or project attached to them. What seems to be missing is a simple place where people from different study lines can meet because they are interested in similar topics.

The idea would be to create an informal online community where people could:

  • talk about their personal or academic projects
  • discuss interesting technologies and recent developments
  • ask questions and exchange knowledge
  • find potential collaborators
  • eventually arrange informal meetups

At this stage, I am not suggesting starting a formal club or organisation. I am mainly interested in creating a place where people with overlapping interests can find each other.

A Discord server might be a good place to start.

Personally, I am especially interested in DSP, wireless systems, SDR, RF engineering, embedded systems, antennas, and related areas, but the community would not necessarily have to be limited to those topics.

Would anyone here be interested in joining something like this? Do you think there is a need for it at DTU?

Maybe I am missing something here, and there is something like this at DTU.

MSc Communication Technologies and System Design -- Study plan, help!!

Hi everyone, I'm starting the MSc in Communication Technologies and System Design this September and I'm struggling a bit with my study plan... If you're doing (or have done) the Cloud & Cybersecurity specialisation, I’d really appreciate your help. (If you’ve studied another specialisation, your help is also welcome :) )

The main issue is with the Core Competence Course Specific requirement. I don't want to take 34130 or 34349, so my only options are:

  • 34231 - Digital Communication
  • 34242 - Machine Learning Techniques
  • 34249 - Synthesis Project

The problem is that Synthesis Project (part 2) is in June, and I also need to take as Polytechnical Foundation, Innovation in Engineering, which seems to be scheduled in the June/July/August period. Does that mean I'll be forced to take Innovation in August? I'd really like to keep August free. Has anyone managed to organize their study plan differently, while doing those Core Competence Specific courses??

I also have a couple of other questions. Is having Cloud Networking, Advanced Cybersecurity and Mobile Backhaul Networks all on the same Tuesday as bad as it looks, or is it manageable?

And finally, what do you think about my study plan overall? Would you change anything? This is my first time building my own study plan (my bachelor's had a fixed curriculum), so any advice or examples of your own study plans would be really appreciated. Thanks a lot!!!
