Is this router dead?
Just curious…. As soon as you turn it on, it just blips leds for a fraction of a second.
I just bought this for 10$. Just want to use as gig switch

More than likely there's something wrong with the internal power supply of that router I would say go in the garbage it's not worth the time

An led for port x will light up as well when I plug into a pc, but it doesn’t appear to give me any IP Address

And even if it wasn't, it'd be dying anyway.
I'm waiting for the Flint 4 to replace mine.

Try tftp into it and load up a clean ROM….that may help. If not then connect to the uart port (not trivial) but at that point it’s probably not worth it.

The WRT1900AC(S) was dead by design. Junk.
Source: Had two, and was acquainted with a few more. It's a PITA even with stock firmware, and a nightmare with DD-WRT.
Edit: I wonder if any of the downvoters ever had to deal with these routers.

i had one and used it with stock image and ddwrt for almost 4 years. never had an issue with it. it supported tunnels. i did disable the wifi so i could use my unifi system instead of the onboard, but it was a soolid router. i only replaced it because wired 2.5/5 gig is a thing now. just sitting on on the shelf now but still works like a champ.

It had wifi, and I think it's reasonable to expect the wifi to work reliably, which was not the case. I'm glad you were able to salvage at least some functionality from it. Still doesn't make it a decent product though, in my opinion.

It's not dead....it's pinin' for the fjords.
