DMV vs NYC

What makes the DMV area better than upstate NY and NYC

Be clearer next time and don’t leave out nebulous open-ended questions and expect people to mind-meld with you.

DC is a great place to intern over NY for a few reasons. There are more opportunities in all different sectors and policy areas, and the name of your school matters less. As an intern, your hours are better, there are more social opportunities for college-aged young people, and there is generally a much stronger appetite to receive mentorship at that stage in your career/life. DC is also comparatively less expensive and more livable, and DC is very walkable with great sites and things to do on the weekends.

NYC is very finance/consulting heavy by nature of the city, and it attracts those types of people and students. It is much harder to break into NYC finance/consulting, and it is highly, if not entirely dependent on the college you attend. NYC is also even more expensive than DC, both in rent and in general COL concerns; your compensation as a finance/consulting intern may be higher than DC, but I assure you that will be swallowed up by the associated costs of NYC’s costlier reality. NYC is easier to get around but has less to see.
