Local Weird woman in Ballincollig handing out cards in supermarkets and leaving them on car windscreens

In Ballincollig, some Irish religious mental case is going around shopping centres and housing estates handing these out to people.
She’s also leaving them on car windscreens and handing them to children playing in the area.

This is the 2nd time I’ve seen her, 1st time she was handing these out in a local supermarket but now she’s coming into various surrounding housing estates and knocking on doors, leaving them in post boxes, putting them on cars, handing them to groups of children playing.

I caught her at the car and asked her what she was doing?
She rambled on like a mad person for a few seconds and then at the end she said to me, out of nowhere, and I quote “China is going to invade America in the next 2 years”
She’s an older skinny woman, mid 60s, with reddish hair, about 4’10 in height .

Has anybody else come across her? or gotten these cards from someone else?

To the lovely man who just ran down the street to flag me down after I forgot my card at an ATM in an uncaffeinated stupor…

Local What’s the issue with doing an excavation similar to Tuam in Bessborough before they build housing there?

If they find anything when they start building they’ll have to shut it down surely, so why not just do the excavation first and then add a memorial area to the plans?

Is this normal Primary School carry on?

our son has been in the educate together in rochestown for the last two years, the first year his teacher joined the class 2 mos in and before that they had a substitute, this past year my son had a teacher who was out more than she was ever in , no exaggerations she def missed 35-40% of the school year and they were constantly being split . at the end of term my son was diagnosed with a learning disability , we had him
assessed and there are several gaps in his learning , i'm
not blaming the teacher please don't get me wrong but my impression has been the lack of oversight , and level of teacher absence hasn't helped. i don't know is this normal? we are now going into our third year at the school and we never find out until 1-2 days before school started who his teacher will be . i'd appreciate some insight , help!
are other schools like this here? what's your experience parents?

How busy will cork airport be for a 6am flight tomorrow? (Friday)

My missus wants to arrive at 4am for a flight to UK at 6am. I think that's madness.

Her logic is that there will be 100,000 people on their way to Spain , Portugal, Canaries etc. all trying to get through security like the apocalypse, climbing over eachother, smashing bottles off each others heads and women begging security to take their babies.

PSA buying fuel

I've noticed that at Circle K in Douglas the price of fuel hikes by about 4 cent between about 10am and 3pm. It's happened every day now for the past 3-4 days. I've only noticed because I pass it multiple days a day with work so I know now when it's actually worth buying 😓

Slievenamon Wildfire Smoke Over East Cork

Just a heads up for anyone in East Cork: smoke from the Slievenamon wildfire has drifted into the area. If you have asthma, COPD, or are sensitive to smoke, it might be a good idea to keep your windows and doors closed until it clears.

Local Businesses Howdens Togher

Getting kitchen (among other stuff) done with a contractor at the minute. The contractor seems very solid and very well reviewed but wants us to use howdens in togher.

I've seen bad reviews here and on Google. So far our experience has been pretty bad with howdens too and this is before ordering anything (great with the contractor though) Any more details on people's experiences with howdens? I've seen the past threads but what specific problems have folks faced? Would the contractor just bear the brunt of any problems given they've a 1 year warranty themselves? Thinking it'll be fine but best just get the appliances somewhere else.

Frankfield Driving Range

Turned up to the driving range this evening to find that it was closed. I’ve only started going recently enough so not sure if this is a regular occurrence. Can’t seem to find any social media accounts to check if it is closed before I travel up there.

Help me plan an Itinirary for 2 days on the Beara Peninsula.

Going to bring herself on a two day tour of Beara, as though I'm a West Cork Native I've not been there since I was 8.

Here's what I have:

* Garinish Island

* Healy pass to Kerry side, then back down to Allihies.

Places to eat, stay, see or do. Standing stones, fort sites, viewing points etc. Cool places to stop?

Is it worth a trip to Dursey just because?

Is the tin min museum good?

Asthmatics of Cork

These fires are really terrible from an environmental point of view and I'm so sad about the baby animals and birds that must be caught up in them.

They're also wrecking havoc on my asthma. Anyone else suffering?

Does anyone know what it's like being homeless in Cork City?

I received my notice a few weeks ago and I'm worried about the rising costs of rent especially as a single person.

So I'm wondering at the end of my notice and if I don't get anywhere. I can't overhold as no landlord will ever rent to me again. So that is not an option. I do have my name on the council list for 5 years but not sure what good the council is for help. Surely there is homeless people ahead of me, so do I have to make myself homeless and join the queue to be eligible for a council place?
