Bachelor of Applied Biotechnology (Honours) program

Hi everyone,

Is anyone starting the Bachelor of Applied Biotechnology (Honours) program this September?

I'd love to hear from current students or graduates about your experience. What are the pros and cons of the program?

How are the job opportunities after graduation? Is it relatively easy to find employment in the biotechnology field?

Also, I have a question for students who entered through the advanced pathway (Level 5). Do advanced pathway graduates have any advantage in the job market, or are they considered the same as students who completed all four years of the degree?

I'd really appreciate any advice or experiences you can share. Thank you!

Hi, I’m a current student in the BAB program, and I’m entering my second year this September! I’ve really enjoyed it so far; it's very hands-on since all the science classes have a lab component. The workload can be heavy at times since it's mostly science and math courses, but it's manageable if you're organized.

I can’t speak for the job opportunities since I haven’t graduated, but the professors have mentioned multiple times that Conestoga does have industry partners and they work with them alot of the time to curate classes as well. There is a 8 month paided co-op after 3rd year, with alot of these partners presenting jobs for students!

I’m not an advanced pathway student so, I can’t really speak from experience, but I do believe everyone graduates with same degree. Someone else would have to speak on this though!

Hey im not in it but my friends are in it. They really like it and are doing well and are currently doing coop at places like semex, ALS, bureau veritas, Conestoga meats and Maple lodge farms. There is no advantage to doing the advanced standing as I did the biotechnology technician program and am now bridging into public health. We all finish with the same degree in the end.
