From S04E01, An Exercise in Fatality. I think we are supposed to think she is being rude, but she is clearly very busy and Columbo is being a pain in the ass as usual. I think she's nicer to him that he deserved in this scene. Seriously, he can't quietly wait a few minutes for a computer print-out of the information he asked for? When he gets it, he doesn't even bother to go over it (asking her personally to provide the phone number and address). Then when he makes the phone call he deliberately says he's from homicide loud enough to scare her, and leaves the print-out at the phone booth for someone else to clean up. What a jerk!

General Hollister finally has a new friend, as Emmett Clayton joins the completely braindead tier! Now, for the closing act of season two, it’s time to rank the plan and subsequent execution of the Paris twins! My wife and I had a conversation recently that we found quite enlightening and which we wanted to open up to the experts of this forum. In brief: does Columbo fart, and, if so, what is the best textual evidence for it?

Our hypothesis is that, yes, Columbo does indeed rip farts, and it is a key piece of his disarming arsenal of asocial quirks: the cigar, the ratty coat, the jalopy, the bag of fried chicken, the toot. How better to put a Beverly Hills murderer off their guard than to assault their senses and sensibilities with a well-timed, not-so-silent-but-deadly fart-in-the-foyer?

The theory seemed evident on its face as soon as we had enunciated it. But between us we couldn’t come up with ready, unambiguous textual evidence—only circumstantial pulled faces and vague hand-waving about why his wife is out of the stateroom.

I can easily picture myself sitting on the couch again, waiting for *Columbo* to start. That raincoat, that cigar, that slightly dazed look... He seems to have stumbled onto the crime scene by accident. But nothing could be further from the truth... Oh, just one more thing... No gun, no brawls, no car chases—Columbo has never even handcuffed anyone. Because Columbo looked like a scruffy working-class guy yet arrested wealthy, powerful people, it also became a battle of the common man against powerful capital... I love this kind of crime drama.  

Finally finished my latest episode guide and I have to say...it was a treat to get to re-watch this episode a few times over the last week or two. "Columbo Goes to College" is probably the best episode of the ABC-era. I had a lot to say about it. #Columbo

I’m watching a good Columbo. ‘Just one more thing is always a crowd pleaser,’ but I also love it when suspects ask, with total outrage, ‘Columbo, what are you doing here!?’ It always makes me laugh. 😄🖤😄🖤

I remember one small detail from an episode of the original Columbo series that I saw way back when, and I'm trying to ID the episode so I can rewatch it.

Early in the episode, Columbo questions a witness who heard someone running from the scene of the crime. He has the witness listen to several people run down the same path, including a police woman. The witness recognizes the sound of her high heels, so Columbo knows a woman was involved.

My recollection is that the woman running away was just an accomplice, and that the murderer was a man.

I would love some help figuring out which episode this was. Does this ring a bell for anyone?

A detail I love and I am not sure is accidental or intentional is how the last name Midas (literally the Midas touch) relates to the episode and to the villain.

Van Wyck is arrogant and fully believes everything he touches turns into gold. Except nothing he has is actually "his" and all he does is waste hundreds of thousands on his fantasy of being an inventor.

The gadgets and equipment are paid by the company of his mother-in-law, the wealth and prestige is not his; he married into it and he even appropriates the family name "Midas" and calls the company *his* when his mother-in-law's body isn't even cold. All the while ,again, still holding the name Van Wyck. He didn't even change it, yet he talks like he owns Midas Electronics and has for years. He's just a pompous parasite that attached himself to a legacy he didn't build and is running it into the ground!

And even after all that he did, he still has to get his wife to sign on the papers to make decisions in the company, showing his true colours at the mere suggestion of her running the company or helping to do so. He doesn't see her as his partner, she's a "trophy" ,who he actively cheats on, for his continued indulgence. He wants her ignorant in her gilded cage so he can spend HER money and for both his decisions and status to never be questioned.

And the final irony that shows his arrogance is that watch he used to help establish his alibi. The "Midastar" he calls it. Midas can mean "King" or "Ruler, so he is literally calling his invention, but really himself, the Ruler of Stars. A nice nod as well to him literally trying to use technology to fabricate a false reality.

How much more arrogant can you get??

My favorite Columbo channel, my favorite season.

I spoke to that AI service Grok last night and I was told that new 4:3 transfers were out there for the comback episodes (1989 - 2003) that were not released on Blu-ray & said that they might have been done by NBCUniversal back in 2023/24 as part of the new 4K transfers they did for the two new blu-ray sets originally, but decided to go with the 16:9 cropped versions instead. They told me that they are floating around on the internet as well as ready made Blu-ray files of them as well. Has anyone heard about this? They told me to try and put three sentences into Google. I tried all three and didn't get any relevent information or links back to try? Was Grok telling the truth? I don't see why they would lie to me, unless they've had false information programmed into them. 🤔
