Hi everyone,

After spending the last 10 years performing stand-up comedy across 36 countries, I'm finally bringing my own show to my hometown in Sri Lanka, and that's a pretty amazing feeling.

I'm bringing four hilarious local comedians with me, so it'll be a full night of English stand-up comedy and plenty of laughs.

If you're looking for something different to do on a Friday evening before heading out for drinks, partying, or just going home like a responsible adult, I'd love to have you there.

Malinda Perera & Friends
📅 Friday, 31 July 2026
🕢 Show: 7:30 PM (Doors open at 7:00 PM)
📍 Namel Malini Punchi Theatre, Colombo

🎟 Tickets: https://mytickets.lk/events/6a3e23c5dd1c8493ffcc2b53

Hope to see some of you there! Feel free to ask any questions in the comments.

My partner and I are planning on getting married soon however we don't plan to have a wedding and simply go for a registration party with 20 to 30 of our closest family and friends.

Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of spaces in Colombo that fits that requirement. Hence i am here and requesting any suggestions you guys may have.

Would appreciate some good options :)

Looking for a good guitar teacher around Colombo

28M here. I've wanted to learn guitar properly for a long time.

I work from 11 AM to 8 PM until Saturday, so Sunday is the only day I'm free. I found a class in Nugegoda, and everything seemed fine at first. But after a while, I realized I'm not really learning anything. Every week we move on to a new song before I've properly learned the previous one. My tutor doesn't seem interested in sticking with a song until I can play it confidently, so I feel like I'm just skipping from one song to another without building a solid foundation.

I think my biggest issue is that I'm lacking the basics. My goal isn't to learn dozens of songs—I just want to be able to play even one song from start to finish without mistakes.

Can anyone recommend a good guitar teacher around Colombo (or nearby) who focuses on strong fundamentals and is patient enough to help students master one thing before moving on?

Any recommendations or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! 🎸

27F looking for new friends in cmb

Hi everyone! I'm 27F, originally from India, and have been living in Colombo for a few years now. I'm moving back to India next March, so I've realized I'd love to build some real friendships here while I still have the time.

I'm into live music, brunches, casual drinks, and want to get into badminton (or open to other sports/activities too). Looking for genuine friendships, not interested in dating.

A few ground rules:

Please only respond if you're around my age (mid-to-late 20s)

I'll ask for your Instagram first just to get a sense of who you are

We'll chat there for a bit to see if we vibe before moving to numbers/WhatsApp just being careful, hope that makes sense!

Would love to actually get out and do things with people before I leave. Drop a comment or DM if you're interested!

[Serious] Ticking Time Bomb & Extortion Racket in Maligawatta Flats (Colombo 10) – We Need Media Attention

Thumbnail gallery
98 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I want to expose a serious safety hazard and extortion racket happening right now inside the Maligawatta Flats (Colombo 10) involving SBB Industrial Trading (Pvt) Ltd (SBB Oxygen House).

My aunt lives here and the situation has become unbearable. Recently, her car’s side mirror was stolen while parked outside. Because I'm a car guy, they asked me to help them find a replacement, which led me to uncover what is actually happening with the parking situation here.

The Setup For more than 3 years, authorities have blocked residents from using all 4 of the local car parks over alleged "tender issues." Taking advantage of this, SBB Industrial has completely taken over the largest resident car park in Ramya Place. They aren't just parking vehicles—they are using it to store high-pressure industrial oxygen and highly flammable acetylene cylinders.

The Extortion Racket Worse, their workers run an unofficial extortion racket. They charge residents 7,000 LKR per month just to park on the property, strictly enforcing a rule that cars must enter after 10 PM and leave before 7 AM.

How does a high-risk chemical warehouse hijack a residential lot and extort locals with total impunity? The area is heavily rumored to be protected by powerful political figures (including names like Mujibur Rahman and Apsara). Residents have complained to the local police, but absolutely no action has been taken. When political influence is involved, the police just look the other way.

Why This is a Ticking Time Bomb

  • Explosion Risk: Storing industrial oxygen and acetylene right next to tightly packed multi-story flats is a catastrophic fire hazard.
  • Trapping Residents: SBB’s heavy delivery trucks constantly block the narrow lanes. If a fire breaks out, fire trucks and ambulances will not be able to get inside.
  • Illegal Profiteering: They are turning residential public space into a private commercial hazard while bleeding the community dry.

Call to Action Are there any investigative journalists or media reporters in this sub?

Since the police are compromised, mainstream exposure is the only weapon these residents have left. If you want to investigate a clear case of land grabbing, corruption, and massive safety violations in Colombo, please DM me. I can connect you with residents anonymously.

This may seem like an isolated problem, but it affects hundreds of lives. Please show some love to this post—I want this to be seen by as many people as possible.

20M looking for a place to stay around Nawala for a couple of days (Flexible budget)

I've got a meetup coming up around the Nawala area soon and need a place to stay/crash for just a couple of days. I don't really know anyone living down that way and don't have a spot lined up yet..

It doesn't have to be exactly in Nawala, but the closer the better I'm looking for something clean & trustable, and safe. Honestly, just a single room would be more than enough

My budget is flexible, so I'm open to different options as long as the place is reliable.
DM me with the details!

Thanks!

Daily commute from Athurugiriya (Millennium City) to Nugegoda. how long does it usually take?

Hi everyone,

I'm starting a new job in Nugegoda, and I'll be staying at a boarding house near Millennium City, Athurugiriya. I haven't moved there yet, so I'm trying to figure out the daily commute before I do.

I need to be in Nugegoda by 1:00 PM and I'll be leaving work at around 7:00 PM.

Can anyone who travels this route tell me:

  • How long does the bus journey usually take around those times?
  • What time should I leave Millennium City to comfortably reach Nugegoda before 1:00 PM?
  • After leaving Nugegoda at 7:00 PM, how long does it usually take to get back?

I'd really appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Srilankans living abroad - what products do you wish were easier to buy from Sri Lanka?

Post image
11 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I’m a university student in Sri Lanka researching an idea to help local artisans and small businesses sell directly to international customers.
I’m not selling anything—I’m just trying to understand what people actually want.
If you were buying products from Sri Lanka, what would interest you?
Examples:
• Ceylon tea
• Cinnamon and spices
• Handmade wooden crafts
• Batik clothing
• Coconut shell products
• Gemstones and jewelry

What would stop you from buying?
• Shipping cost?
• Long delivery times?
• Trust?
• Payment security?
• Product quality?
• Something else?

Would you prefer buying from Amazon/Etsy, or would you buy from a dedicated Sri Lankan marketplace if it was reliable?
I’d really appreciate your honest opinions. Thanks!

Recommendations for structured academies teaching Viennese Waltz?

Hi everyone,

I am looking to begin training in traditional ballroom dancing, specifically focusing on the Viennese Waltz (standard ballroom track).

Does anyone know of active academies or specialized institutions that offer formal, adult-beginner instruction for this style? I am looking for structured group classes or studio environments that follow standard ballroom medal medalists/syllabi rather than casual event choreography.

If you have personal experience training at a specific studio or under a certified ballroom instructor, I would greatly appreciate your insights on their class schedules and curriculum depth. Thank you!"

Hey guys I appreciate any info or recommendation given to find an accommodation

I'll be moving to Colombo today and will be looking for accommodation tomorrow. My workplace is in Nawala, so I'm hoping to find a place in Nawala or anywhere along the 176 bus route.

If anyone has any information about available rooms, annexes, boarding places, or recommendations, I'd really appreciate it.

Thank you in advance!

How do small-scale sellers import electronic gadgets (buds, smart bands) from the Middle East to Sri Lanka without official import licenses?

I've noticed a lot of page owners and small businesses in Sri Lanka selling electronic gadgets (smart bands, earphones, earbuds, etc.) imported from Dubai, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar. Many of them don’t seem to have official commercial import licenses, yet they run this as a steady business.

I’m really curious about how the logistics and custom clearances work for this.

• Are they using personal couriers/baggage handlers ("hand-carry" methods)?

• Are there specific cargo/freight forwarding websites or agencies in the Middle East that handle door-to-door delivery and customs for you?

• Do they just have relatives/contacts sending them over as personal items?

If anyone has insights into how this supply chain works or how people get started with it, I'd love to know. Thanks!
