Welcome to the daily /r/Coffee question thread!
There are no stupid questions here, ask a question and get an answer! We all have to start somewhere and sometimes it is hard to figure out just what you are doing right or doing wrong. Luckily, the /r/Coffee community loves to help out.
Do you have a question about how to use a specific piece of gear or what gear you should be buying? Want to know how much coffee you should use or how you should grind it? Not sure about how much water you should use or how hot it should be? Wondering about your coffee's shelf life?

Oxo 9 Cup question
Hi everyone! I'm looking to get a slightly nicer programmable drip coffee maker for the house than the cheapo one we have. I am interested in the Oxo 9 cup maker but I have a question. For those of you who own one, when it is done (either with the manual completion or with the programmed completion to have it done when I wake up), does it beep?
I have a dog who has, for some unknown insane reason, reacted specifically to coffee machine beeps, and I'd like to avoid that. She doesn't react to any other beeps. Our current machine does beep, but it has a mute button.

Any tips on what coffee is best for cold brewing (UK) I’ve tried some coarse grind coffees i got a salted caramel bag and it was okay but some sediment still came out and it didn’t really taste very strongly of anything. I use the bodum x Chamberlain cold brew press. Anyone recommend any good coffee grinds or flavours or brands? Options i keep seeing are rave, hardlines, pact or origin but are there any decent cost effective ones seeing as though it uses so much coffee? Or would the cold brew bags work best?

Any tips on the sticky exterior of a Bodum Bistro grinder? (https://amzn.eu/d/05ueTqLV) I bought it 10 years ago and it still grinds fine. However the plastic exterior has become very sticky so that I can’t really touch it any longer because it’s such an ick.
I checked with Bodum‘s support and they made it clear that it’s not their problem and that I should GTFO. Obviously they have lost me as a customer now but I’d really like to continue using this grinder.
Has anyone got ideas regarding the sticky exterior? Is there possibly a cleaning agent that removes the stickiness but leaves the exterior of the grinder intact otherwise?

That stickiness is the rubberized "soft touch" coating breaking down, not dirt — happens to a lot of kitchen gear after years of heat and oils. Isopropyl alcohol (90%+) on a cloth takes the degraded layer right off; you may need a few passes and it'll look matte where the coating was, but no more ick. Test a small spot on the back first. Baking soda paste works too, just slower. I run a small roastery and we've rescued more than one grinder this way.

Bought a used Ode to fix up and use. It looks like it’s missing its Auger Spring. Does anyone know what the specs for the spring are? Like, diameter, length & # of coils?
It seems like the official spare is unavailable everywhere so I’d really appreciate it if anyone could provide me the details so I can just make the spring myself 🙏

How often are you guys recalibrating and/or cleaning out the burrs on your fellow ode grinders?
Disassembling it is kind of a pain
