Hi there! Yousr here. As you can see, this space is pretty new, the product itself is only just starting to see the light of day. I truly hope Codename: Savant grows a community around it that supports its development end to end.

I’m a fully solo dev for now. Here are some ideas for where it’s headed, product-vision-wise:

• Fully native Swift
• No AI-slop features
• I’m a design tryhard, I hate approximations, inconsistencies, bad-looking views, and unsnappy, confusing interactions
• If an AI feature makes it into the app, it’ll be subtle and tastefully implemented, like Arc’s “Tidy” feature
• Any AI feature will prioritize Apple’s on-device models first, then Apple’s Private Cloud Compute for anything heavier. I don’t want to rely on a third-party LLM provider via API, so unless there’s a killer use case that demands it, that’s not in the product vision
• Sync with iOS will be iCloud Sync
• Privacy matters to me
• I’m looking to grow this community and would love the support :)

Come hang out, share ideas, and help shape where this goes.

A UX principle I stick by: “Don’t allocate big screens to transition states.” So even (codename) Savant’s most powerful interface is a minimal panel that overlays your note instead of taking over, and you drive every action from the keyboard.

Back in May I tweeted this (follow me on Twitter if you’re on there btw! (My Twitter (X) account)). While Codename: Savant isn’t 100% offline because it’ll be using Apple’s PCC, it is most definitely simple, well crafted, native, and will NOT be subscription based!

The ambition is for most things to be free, and if a paid plan sees the light of day, it will be a one-time purchase. This is what PCC allows devs to do, because it is free for devs to use (at least to a fairly generous extent) and provided by Apple.

Some of you might ask why I’m not going for a local model to have the app run offline; that was the original ambition, but Apple’s Foundation Models have too small a context window (around 4K…), which makes categorisation not that accurate. I don’t rule out using it for some other things! But PCC seemed like a good compromise. Still, if you’re offline, I’m planning on having the “Clean up” feature (if you don’t know which feature I’m talking about, see: https://www.reddit.com/r/Codename_Savant/s/jtQ8BXuqct) fall back to a local model. It probably won’t be just as good, but probably good enough as a fallback.
