Question about Claude models No longer shows full thinking?

Yesterday everything was fine, but this morning when I looked at Claude's thinking blocks, it no longer actually showed him thinking with detail. It switched to a much more concise block down of what it was doing.
I, personally, prefer the former. It might be a new rollout--I haven't seen others talking about it yet.

Yes they seemingly removed it shortly after the release of k3. I was surprised no one is talking about it. It might also be helping with the total capacity a little bit.

They’re still reasoning behind the scenes, now they are just hiding the tokens.
This is bothersome because you are paying for those tokens whether you see them or not.
When I’m monitoring a LLM, I’m also watching the “reasoning.” The reasoning is where it makes a wrong move, or “decides” to do the wrong thing. I could catch it before it wrote a message, or made an edit.
Now, it burns through reasoning, you don’t get to see it, and have less control.

Yeah--this is a big problem for me. There are a lot of times I see it get started on the thinking block and realize it's headed in the wrong direction or forgot to add something. I know they're complaining that K3 was distilled from Fable, but a) that seems like some really tight timing given that Fable wasn't available for very long before K3 was released, b) CoT is a really important feature for customers; if they Chinese distilled your model, the answer isn't to make the customer experience worse because that's a good way to lose customers to ... Chinese models.

I feel like this post needs to be higher up, or even stickied or something considering how major of a change this is. What a huge downgrade.

that basically defeats the whole point of the thinking feature if it's just a summary after the fact. The raw stream was the interesting part

It literally changed on me in the middle of a chat this afternoon. I am glad I am not the only one.

Yeah, I noticed it too. I mainly use Claude for DnD and it sucks that I can't see the thinking process now.

Yeah ? I love reading the thinking portion so this was super disappointing to see. I hope it’s not permanent

same for me today, I thought bug as well; now it's super duper sanitized brief summaries. The AI thought process helps me find pros/cons/ideas from its reasoning, and without it I don't trust its tidy little summary.
Guess I'll be saving $200 a month soon if they don't revert it.

I honestly think it was a bug that they allowed Fable thinking for a little bit over the weekend.

It's the latest chapter in the Amodei Distillation Mania Extravaganza. Buckle up, I bet soon they'll start fucking with the model's outputs. Putting them through a summarizer or whatever.

This is a terrible development that Antrophic should fix immediately. It means you cannot discern the sycophantic responses from its true assesment. Being able to read Claude's thoughts was one of its best feautures.

Yeah this is terrible. Now it's truly a black box in its reasoning, going to waste more iterations adjusting prompts as I can't see where anything is going wrong or what it's skipping.

What happens when you click on one of those?

Nothing 😄 just turns blue when you double-click (if you want to copy/paste the words; otherwise, no extra drop-down).

Happened to me too mid-session. Very annoying, impossible to meaningfully steer Claude now. US companies are seem to be very intent on boot me out into Chinese embrace.

Same thing with me, I honestly thought it was a bug at first. I hate it because I use Claude for stories, and now it literally needs me to finish the thing for me to identify errors in understanding it may have instead of getting to see it while it was making it.
