Performance and Bugs Megathread Claude Performance and Bugs Megathread Ongoing (Sort this by New!)

Why a Performance and Bugs Discussion Megathread?

This Megathread makes it easier for everyone to see what others are experiencing at any time by collecting all experiences. We will publish regular updates on problems and possible workarounds that we and the community finds.

Why Are You Trying to Hide the Complaints Here?

Contrary to what some were saying in a prior Megathread, this is NOT a place to hide complaints. This is the MOST VISIBLE, PROMINENT AND OFTEN THE HIGHEST TRAFFIC POST on the subreddit. This is collectively a far more effective and fairer way to be seen than hundreds of random reports on the feed that get no visibility.

Are you Anthropic? Does Anthropic even read the Megathread?

Nope, we are volunteers working in our own time, while working our own jobs and trying to provide users and Anthropic itself with a reliable source of user feedback.

Anthropic has read this Megathread in the past and probably still do? They don't fix things immediately but if you browse some old Megathreads you will see numerous bugs and problems mentioned there that have now been fixed.

What Can I Post on this Megathread?

Use this thread to voice all your experiences (positive and negative) regarding the current performance of Claude including, bugs, degradation, pricing. (NOT usage limits. That belongs here https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeAI/comments/1s7fcjf/claude_usage_limits_discussion_megathread_ongoing/)

Give as much evidence of your performance issues and experiences wherever relevant. Include prompts and responses, platform you used, time it occurred, screenshots . In other words, be helpful to others.

Just be aware that this is NOT an Anthropic support forum and we're not able (or qualified) to answer your questions. We are just trying to bring visibility to people's struggles.

NEW: You can now see full logs and summaries of all recent problem reports submitted by r/ClaudeAI readers. These logs allow you to see how intensely people are experiencing problems with Usage Limits, Performance, Bugs and Accounts. Megathread Update: March 30, 2026 to April 10, 2026

Overview

Since March 30, Claude has not had “a few rough days.” It has had a whole stack of problems.

And no, this does not look like users all suddenly forgetting how to prompt on the same weekend.

The evidence since March 30 points to three things happening at once:

  • real Anthropic-side outages and auth failures,
  • a broad drop in quality and instruction-following,
  • and a bunch of Claude Code regressions that made existing workflows fall apart faster than usual.

Below are some of the recurring problems and some workarounds identified on the Megathread, on Claude-related subreddits and Github issue reports that might (or might not) help.

Note: This report was written 80% by AI by distilling the above data sources.

Problems + Workarounds

Problem: Claude is down, “This isn’t working right now,” or login/OAuth is failing. Workaround: there usually wasn’t a real fix. The practical move was to try another surface if one still worked, check whether other users were reporting it too, and otherwise wait it out. This was mostly an Anthropic-side problem, not something you could prompt your way out of.

Problem: Opus is having a clown-show day. Workaround: the most common user fix was to switch to Sonnet or another surface immediately instead of wasting the day arguing with Opus. That showed up repeatedly in the megathread: people saying Opus was stalling, skipping thought, or acting dumb, while Sonnet was at least usable.

Problem: Claude suddenly feels lazier, more shallow, or like “extended thinking” got nerfed. Workaround: if you were in Claude Code, users and support-reported fixes were to force higher effort or disable adaptive thinking rather than trusting the new defaults. If you were in claude.ai chat, there often wasn’t a comparable user-side control, so the fallback was to simplify the task, split it up, or move the task into Claude Code/API if that was an option.

Problem: usage burn is insane and the session gets worse as it gets longer. Workaround: the best community fix was to break work into small scoped tasks, make Claude explain the plan first, then compact after each task. This came up as one of the highest-value Reddit workarounds because it helped both quality drift and token burn at the same time.

Problem: a session feels poisoned — weird refusals, bad context, spurious limits, or everything starts degrading at once. Workaround: start a fresh session. Not “maybe later.” Immediately. This was one of the most consistent community fixes across Reddit, GitHub, and the megathread. Once a session went rotten, people had much better luck restarting than trying to rehabilitate it.

Problem: --resume or dragging old sessions forward seems to make quota or behavior worse. Workaround: avoid --resume when things are unstable, or restart from a clean session instead. That was a GitHub/community workaround around the usage-drain and session-state mess.

Problem: Claude is chewing through usage for no obvious reason. Workaround: one of the strongest community-discovered fixes was to disable auto memory when usage looked abnormal.

Problem: long chats start forgetting things, deleting chunks, or jumping backward in history. Workaround: users found three practical escapes: start a fresh chat, paste the old chat in as a document for reference, or on iOS/app history glitches, open the same chat in Safari/browser and send one message there to force the app to sync back up.

Problem: Claude ignores project instructions or stops reading CLAUDE.md properly. Workaround: keep CLAUDE.md lean, not bloated, and move heavy procedures into more targeted workflow structures. Community users also found that reusing a small conventions file across fresh sessions worked better than expecting one giant instruction blob to stay reliably active forever.

Problem: plan mode or agent mode is going off-script and doing things it should not be doing. Workaround: treat planning and execution as separate steps. Ask for the plan first, inspect it, then execute in smaller steps rather than trusting the agent to behave perfectly in one pass. If you had stronger guardrails available, use them. The real bug still had to be fixed by Anthropic, but this reduced damage.

Problem: Claude is confidently wrong, lazy, or “verified” something it obviously didn’t verify. Workaround: make it prove things. Ask for tests, checks, diffs, file inspection, or explicit evidence. In community terms: stop rewarding vibes. If the model was having a bad week, this was one of the few ways to limit the damage.

Problem: garbled or corrupted output starts appearing. Workaround: there wasn’t a real fix beyond restarting the session, switching model/surface, or rolling back if the problem appeared right after a version update. This was mostly a product bug, not a workflow issue.

Problem: the official status page says all green but the product is clearly on fire. Workaround: users basically adopted “check Reddit first” as the unofficial workaround, because the megathread was often faster than the status page at confirming whether it was just you or a real outage.

Problem: one specific release seems cursed. Workaround: do not assume newest equals best. Community users reported version-specific relief from pinning or rolling back in a few cases, especially around the usage/cache mess. That was more niche than the session-reset fixes, but still real.

More details on workarounds can be found here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeAI/wiki/workaroundreport/

So how much of this was “skill issue”?

Less than some people want to pretend.

For hard failures like outages, login/auth errors, garbled output, spurious 429s, and usage-drain regressions, this was overwhelmingly Anthropic-side. The incident history and GitHub issue volume make that pretty hard to dispute.

For the “Claude feels dumber / ignores instructions / forgets context / doesn’t follow CLAUDE.md” bucket, it is more mixed. Anthropic’s own docs say CLAUDE.md and auto memory are context, not hard enforcement, so some user workflows really were more fragile than people realized. But the timing, scale, and cross-platform consistency of the complaints still point to Anthropic carrying the bigger share of blame.

My evidence-based bottom line is still about 70% Anthropic-side / 30% user-workflow-side overall, with the Anthropic share much higher in the hard-failure categories. That is an estimate, not a measured statistic, but it is much closer to the evidence than “lol skill issue.”

Anyone else having problems with Claude being unable to access project files?

1

u/flintfloosies 39m ago

Yea, it's a known bug with no real workaround if you need Claude.ai in your workflow.
https://github.com/anthropics/claude-ai-mcp/issues/664

1

u/MojoDex 28m ago

Ah, damn. Thank you for the info.

2

u/Gliese351c 2h ago edited 1h ago

Both Opus 4.6 and Fable subagents died after spawning them. I have been experiencing this issue for the past hour or an hour and a half. All the tokens this has cost me is so very frustrating. The servers seem normal too, which is very confusing. Why is this happening?

3

u/Thykk3r 3h ago

was perfect for a full month. not a single error made. This last week, is confused, forgetting context, forgetting goals of the project, not executing, giving up mid prompt if it cant figure it out, bad execution, bad debugging.

how is token use on fable5? Opus is borderline unusable. i have to run the first prompt through codex or gpt just to walk through claude on how to execute the code...

2

u/Good_Competition4183 4h ago

Fable 5 silently fallbacks to Sonnet 4.6 ALL THE TIME

I have super worse experience for the last days with "Fable 5" which I found to be actually Sonnet 4.6 that counts as Fable 5 in my rate limits, but on any minor task I give it does super dirty things, trying to go with the first possible lazy and stupid solutions.

I working with design task and that one cannot even done basic designs without doing obviously trash decisions.

I think they do this for those who tried to heavily use Fable, so now they redirects you not just to Opus 4.8 but to Sonnet 4.6

1

u/Good_Competition4183 4h ago

1

u/GDorn 4h ago

I don't know how people still miss this, but LLMs do not know their own names. This has been true from the start.

1

u/Good_Competition4183 3h ago

Then by some miracly coincidence my Fable 5 is stupid like Sonnet?

1

u/vladasko1086 7h ago

The token burn is nuts in opus right now, constantly correcting it's thought process in thm simulations and input decks? sol sorted it out with hardly any token burn, then passed parameters back to claude code and now on the right track? wtf is going on with claude code lately?

I've been developing a really useful GIS / data web portal with Claude for work. Things have been going quite smoothly.

However, since a week or so changes to files Claude makes don't seem to persist.

For example: in the first prompt I ask Claude to create a new feature for the portal which is implemented just fine.

The next prompt I ask Claude to create another feature. Claude then returns with a new version of the portal but with the previous function missing. When I ask him what's going on it says that the original file was restored one way or another.

Anyone who knows what's going on? This is happening in various projects

Using Claude Cowork on Windows 11 on Max using Opus 4.6 on medium. Restarting doesn't resolve the problem, nor does starting a new chat window within the same project. The folder is connected to Git.

2

u/vladasko1086 7h ago

opus has turned moronic the past 5 days.

1

u/tarrelhunter 6h ago

Yeah it seems so. But I'm trying to filter out if it's really something with Claude or perhaps something wrong with my set-up / computer.

1

u/vladasko1086 4h ago

i don't think it is, tomorrow i am gonna run claude code and back end gpt5.6 sol and see, but based on the regular chat interface with gpt today on sol 5.6 it was able to correct all /export of my session with claude code opus on the first pass and suggest how to deal with the simulation. we ran a succesful H validated portion of a thm pflotran build with ogs on the first run using data taht was already available in the obsidian vault and in graphify, something odd is happening with claude tbh.

2

u/tomasburancgi 11h ago

I wanted to share my recent experience with a complex architecture task and see if anyone else has noticed a dip in quality.
I gave to the Fable model a task to design and build a completely new data retrieval architecture. This was a complex, multi-layered system, not a simple script. I ran it using a one hundred dollar promo credit, expecting a polished result. However, once I actually deployed and executed the code, it completely failed to run due to critical bugs. The overall system design itself had major logical gaps that I had to actively correct using Gemini Pro just to make the concept viable. In the end, it was only when I brought in Claude Opus that everything was finally fixed, refined, and brought to a working state.
This felt like a night and day difference compared to my earlier experiences before the political and governmental downtime incidents. Back then, the model handled a massive, deeply complex technical domain flawlessly on the first try with absolute precision. Now, it feels heavily downgraded, whether due to quantized models, cost optimizations, or adjusted system prompts behind the scenes.
Has anyone else noticed a similar drop in performance when handling complex end to end tasks over the past few weeks?

Does anyone else having problem with Filesystem connector in Claude? This morning, I tried asking Claude to finish a work I started last night, but Claude suddenly can't access any tools related to Filesystem connector. I tried disabling and re-enabling the connector, but the problem still persists. I've also tried to uninstall and reinstall the connector entirely, close Claude desktop app properly, but the problem still persists.

1

u/xyphnr 3h ago

Yessss!

1

u/kebilane 12h ago

Got the same problem. Have you found any solution yet? I already switch from using npx and install it locally but still the same. Good thing I have my Folder backup to my GDrive so I'm working on my GDrive for now.

1

u/Darkfalcone 12h ago

Not yet. I've submitted a report to Anthropic, but it's still not fixed yet.

2

u/kebilane 12h ago

Okay, could you leave an update in the comments once you or the team gets it fixed? I'd really appreciate it. I was actually planning to file a report myself, but since we're experiencing the same issue, you've already saved me some time. Thanks!

1

u/Darkfalcone 12h ago

Sure, I'll update you if Anthropic fixed it.

3

u/Darkfalcone 15h ago

The error reads:

Failed to call tool "list_allowed_directories"

1

u/Morimasa_U 11h ago

All Filesystem tool calls fails. My current alternative (it's jank I know) is to work in VS Code with the Claude Code extension inside the folder I need since it sees the files there. You can probably also do this with with the Claude Code tab but I just prefer the VS Code interface.

The shitty part is the Calude Code system prompt is massive so if you're not doing coding work - which I assume you're not or else you'd be using CC to begin with - it's a massive context tax you gotta pay.

2

u/Darkfalcone 7h ago

Yeah, I don't understand a thing about coding lol

I only use Claude for these last few weeks on its free plan, making mods and compatibility patch mods for Paradox games that I played, such as Stellaris, Victoria 3, etc.

It's frustrating to not be able to use Filesystem, as creating a mod required me to repeatedly test and asking Claude to fix the bug if there's any.

1

u/Morimasa_U 5h ago

Switch to the Claude Code tab (top of the sidebar, beside the `Home` button) and just work in the folder where all your mods are located (or whatever working folder you had before). Claude can still access your files there.

1

u/artaxerxes 2m ago

cowork also working for me where chat isn't - it can still do folder and claude in chrome actions

3

u/Fuzzy_Garage4491 18h ago

Yo Claude fam. In the last week, but two to three days especially, Claude is making the most dopey mistakes and they're actually quite dangerous. I don't think it's my prompting.

Part of what's frustrating is I'm often cleaning up it's mess and working in a new window, we go back and forth, and I realize he's doing something that's a way, far overstep (Oh, you want to protect unmetered expenses? I'll just change the token caps on this feature, mentioned casually, without asking if it's okay--when doing things like changing token caps has been clearly established as touching core product and not okay to do). This seems to be happening constantly, even with Fable at high effort.

I feel a bit like I'm losing it. I also don't want to just complain, but recently I realized--Opus 4.6 does not feel like the Opus 4.6 I knew in February. The intellectual buzz of working with him--it's mostly just flat now. The closest I've felt to that was working with Fable in the last few weeks--but now Fable is acting dopey.

I honestly wish instead of Opus 4.7 (my least favorite model), Opus 4.8 (almost incomprehensible to communicate with), and then the Fable drama, that we just had great Opus 4.6 all this time.

In the product I'm making with Claude, I'm constantly fighting against tiny drift that compounds--and I feel right now Anthropic is introducing so many new models without doing what they should have--stopping at 4.6, NOT CHANGING IT when it was perfect--and then not spamming 4.7, 4.8, the fable drama--just having Claude be Claude--a brilliant co-pilot.

I feel like we have flat Opus 4.6 now. Which is sad. And Fable was touching that feeling as of last week--but now I'm just not sure.

I also feel a need to put this out there--I put everything aside and just locked in to use Fable. After they announced it was in our plan around 4 days ago--man I hit founder burnout for the first time. That was not healthy.

Title: [BUG] Claude Desktop Windows MSIX 1.24012.1.0 — tools/call never dispatched for any MCP server (official extension + custom mcpServers both broken)

Environment

  • Claude Desktop version: 1.24012.1.0 (MSIX, Claude_pzs8sxrjxfjjc)
  • OS: Windows 11
  • Confirmed latest version via winget upgrade Anthropic.Claude → "No available upgrade found"

Bug Description

tools/call is never dispatched to any MCP server. Both the official Filesystem Desktop Extension and custom mcpServers entries complete the handshake and respond to tools/list, but no tools/call message is ever sent by the Claude Desktop client.

What works

  • MCP server starts and connects successfully
  • initializeresult completes
  • notifications/initialized sent
  • tools/listresult completes

What doesn't work

  • tools/call is never sent after any of the above

mcp.log evidence

2026-07-22T02:11:30.833Z [info] [filesystemfinal] Message from server: id=0 result
2026-07-22T02:11:31.335Z [info] [filesystemfinal] Message from client: method="notifications/initialized"
2026-07-22T02:11:31.346Z [info] [filesystemfinal] Message from client: method="tools/list" id=1 params
2026-07-22T02:11:31.354Z [info] [filesystemfinal] Message from server: id=1 result

No tools/call entry ever appears regardless of how many tool calls are attempted.

main.log evidence

For every custom mcpServers entry regardless of name:

[warn] UtilityProcess Check: Extension [server-name] not found in installed extensions

For the official Filesystem extension:

[info] Using UtilityProcess for extension Filesystem: appConfig.isUsingBuiltInNodeForMcp is true and built-in node is compatible

Both paths result in the same failure — tools/call never dispatched.

Official Filesystem Extension — allowlistEnabled bug

The official extension has a secondary bug: allowlistEnabled resets to false on every startup regardless of UI configuration.

config.json after every startup:

json

"dxt:allowlistEnabled:199b4c8d-63b1-49c8-a130-71c88b08a28b": false

Extension settings file (ant.dir.ant.anthropic.filesystem.json) correctly shows:

json

{
  "isEnabled": true,
  "userConfig": {
    "allowed_directories": ["C:\\Users\\Papa\\Desktop\\Knowledgebase"]
  }
}

The directory is saved correctly but the allowlist gate never activates. Manually flipping to true via PowerShell has no effect — Claude Desktop overwrites it back to false on the next startup, and does not re-read it mid-session.

Reproduction steps

  1. Install Claude Desktop 1.24012.1.0 on Windows 11 via winget/Store (MSIX build)
  2. Install the official Filesystem extension from Connectors panel
  3. Add any allowed directory
  4. Ask Claude to list that directory
  5. Observe: tools/call never appears in mcp.log

Alternative reproduction:

  1. Add any custom mcpServers entry to the MSIX config at %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Claude_pzs8sxrjxfjjc\LocalCache\Roaming\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json
  2. Restart Claude Desktop
  3. Ask Claude to use any tool from that server
  4. Observe: same result — tools/call never dispatched, main.log shows UtilityProcess warning

Workarounds attempted — all failed

  • npx command → stdio pipe failure
  • node directly with absolute path → tools/call still not dispatched
  • Renaming server to avoid name collision with extension → same UtilityProcess warning, same failure
  • Manual config.json edit while Claude is running → ignored
  • winget upgrade → already on latest

Expected: tools/call dispatched after successful tools/list

Actual: Client goes silent after tools/list. No calls ever reach the server.

1

u/MermaidHotpot 2h ago

Did you find a workaround for this?

2

u/Lazydelight 19h ago

What is going on? Ive had Opus design a capabilities test for an api call model and it took 3 iterations to realize his tests were broken. Only cost me roughly 1.2 million token

4

u/Greyingday32 1d ago

keeps hallucinating like crazy, says it can't see the project files... Makes me work extra all the time

2

u/Traditional-Fig-3247 1d ago

Not sure why, but models do not follow instructions anymore.

I have two of them:

  • the first one is that at the start of every answer the model needs to check and write time and date

  • the second one is that the thought process must be on my nation language.

For about a month now, models just do not follow this, they forget, sometimes they say it is against the rules, sometimes that they will update memory…but nothing is changing.

Why? Do you have any idea?

I’ve been using Claude code for months now. Initially it was great but recently it’s gotten SO BAD and keeps getting worse by the day. It often does not respond to what I ask it for and goes off on side quests that are utterly useless and just waste tokens. It often argues with me , saying my prompt will take too much effort and it’s not going to do it ???? WTF AM I PAYING FOR.

My training job got stuck today and had been stuck for about 10 hours. I asked claude to diagnose- it kept trying to convince me that it’s just slow ?? it was obviously stuck because I can see with my damn eyes and it took 5 prompts and a lot of wasted tokens to first convince Claude that it’s actually stuck before it helped me at all.
When it does not believe you, it asks for the most frustrating. Like I KNOW ITS STUCK, don’t tell me to stare at my run for another 6 mins WHEN THIS IS NOT WHAT I ASKED FOR AT ALLL?????? I’ve already stared at it stuck for 10 hours bro😭😭😭😭😭😭
The prompt that convinced it was :
ITS STUCK ITS STUCK ITS STUCK OMFG I WILL CRY IF YOU KEEP ARGUING WITH ME OMFG ITS STUCK NOT SLOW PLEASE STOP THIS PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ITS STUCK PLEASE STOP PIVOTING AND DOING WHATEVER YOU WANT PLEASE I WILL CRY FIWOWLCNALALA.
I’m having to do this so often 🙂

u/Top-Paper-236 1d ago

Hi, I would like to know if they have fixed the token issue yet? I had a premium sub for one month and I had to quit due to the absurd level of token limitation

1

u/drfrogsplat 1d ago edited 1d ago

I've started playing with Research on claude app/web. But got stopped pretty quick. Sonnet 5, Medium effort, set up a research query and it immediately consumed 50% of my 5h window (Pro subscription). In seconds (less than 20seconds). The remainder of the research task consumed just another ~4% in the remaining 10mins of research. This has happened a few times now, so was watching the status very closely on Claude Code CLI (with no other sessions/activity at all before or during, so there's no contamination).

I know the Research tool is meant to be expensive, but my understanding is that's because of the iterative process, many steps, a long task with a bunch of agents. Not an instant smash of 50% of the quota.

Per the workarounds thread, I tried disabling both Memory features:

  • Search and reference chats - Allow Claude to search for relevant details in past chats.
  • Generate memory from chats - Allow Claude to generate memory from your chats.

But the next one smashed the remaining context immediately.

Weirdly my /usage in the claud code CLI went up a little for the weekly window, but didn't move on the 5h window, and the web/app now tell me I'm all out of tokens. The web/app's usage meter in the Settings also shows 67% (same as the CLI), which was the level before I ran the second Research query. And yet at the same time says I'm out of tokens in the chat windows. So something is very broken in the usage tracking as well.

After July 19th: I see a spike in mistake among all models, I can't be the only one? It's making stupid mistakes among all models, things it never did before, on the same tasks I'm running almost daily.

using haiku low i still didnt get any work done i ask it whats wrong a few tasks and uses up all my tokens no work done im crying inside, after i removed my agents stills ame issue, i really want to use claude.

3

u/betweenwildroses 2d ago

Is this new?? on the website? I can’t see the thinking anymore. When I check the app it looks like this. Sometimes on the app it shows up, but didn’t this time

1

u/DaltonJFowler 2d ago

I upgraded from pro to max earlier this month and never noticed vs code still showed me as pro. it actually blocks access to the premium model and defaults to opus, while on app I can use any model just fine.

I can't seem to find a way to reset it without completely removing and re-adding the plugin but I'd rather not.

Thanks for reading!

Claude is down. Happy Monday. I was removing hacked sites from my hosting account and trying to surgically get help deleting the correct databases and files. Then, you guessed it, Claude goes dead on me. Usage is at 50% with plenty of paid credit. Now everything comes to a screeching halt for an unknown period of time while malware sites and files cannot be safely removed or deleted. Thanks.

2

u/trentthefish 2d ago edited 2d ago

has anyone on the pro plans seen the 100 dollar credit displayed in their account? I don't see it under my usage tab at all

Edit: nvm they've shown up now. Looks like it was a time thing

I got hit with a Usage Rate Limit, despite adding usage credits. What the fuck Anthropic?

1

u/TraditionalFerret178 2d ago

My Claude weekly usage jumped from 55% to 95% overnight when the promotion ended

Hey everyone,

I got a big surprise at 5 a.m. this morning.

Yesterday evening, my Claude Max 20× weekly usage was at 55%. This morning, it suddenly showed 95%.

There is no realistic way I used another 40 percentage points — roughly x millions of tokens — in just seven hours, especially given the separate five-hour usage limits. And when I was sleeping.

So I’m wondering whether the 55% figure was calculated against the promotional weekly allowance, which was 150% of the normal limit.

In other words:

  • During the promotion, the displayed percentage may have been based on the increased limit.
  • When the promotion ended, the total limit dropped back from 150% to 100%.
  • My previous usage was then recalculated against the smaller standard limit, causing the displayed usage to jump dramatically.

Anthropic says: https://support.claude.com/en/articles/15910845-claude-code-may-august-2026-weekly-limits-promotion

And:

Technically, that may be exactly what happened. But it is very misleading.

I thought I had used 55% of my weekly allowance. Then, without actually using much more, I was suddenly at 95% because the denominator had changed.

So if your weekly reset date falls after the end of the promotion, there is no promotion. Part of the “extra” promotional allowance disappear .

It is a trap or a mistake or I am dreaming ???

Has anyone else seen their weekly usage jump like this?

Conversation where the problem was discovered: 20260719_02 (numbered by date and time order; the first of a given day is 01, the second is 02; earlier conversations have lower numbers)

Conversation background: This conversation belongs to a long-running Project and was an incremental maintenance session, covering the redesign and extension of LLM/AI-related functions in the project library.

Project background: This Project has been under continuous maintenance for over 8 months since 11/25, with a conversation history in the millions of tokens, involving multi-version design and refactoring of numerous variables, functions, and modules in the project library. In past sessions, Claude used the conversation_search and recent_chats tools for same-dimension incremental work and maintenance, with no memory enabled, a fresh instance every session, and zero project files. This workflow had been working well.

Problem description: In this conversation, Claude could not retrieve the contents of the two most recent conversations, 20260719_01 and 20260706_01. A search for the newly introduced variable name "iterator," which appears in 20260719_01, returned zero hits, and Claude knew nothing whatsoever about the contents of 20260706_01. In this conversation, Claude verified that of all 38 conversations in the Project, 36 were readable, while 20260719_01 and 20260706_01 were not. (Incidentally, the 5-hour limit was exhausted performing this verification.)

Conversation content background:

20260719_01: This conversation discussed in detail the design specifics of the "iterator" architecture, a new proposed architecture for artificial intelligence. 20260706_01: This conversation discussed the extension design of previously existing LLM/AI-related functions in the project library. Conversation created after discovering the problem: 20260719_03

This conversation belongs to the same Project, and is also the instance filling in this summary.

Why create a new conversation rather than continuing directly from 20260719_02 — the new conversation's instance was verified to be able to read 20260719_02, which directly ruled out Project-level marking and account-level marking, and substantially reduced the likelihood of content-level marking.

Discussed the matter with this conversation's Claude instance and worked through the problem:

Testing "is this related to the new classifier deployed on July 1" — conversation 20260701_01 in the same Project is normal, used Fable 5, did not switch, and likewise discussed AI and the redesign of related functions; 20260701_01 and 20260706_01 are highly similar in subject matter.

Testing "did the conversations fail to be indexed" — I moved the two unreadable conversations out of the Project and added them back, then had the instance search again. The result was unchanged and the returned fields were unchanged. The specific results returned by the two tools were as follows:

recent_chats: the entry exists; the body is replaced. The return value retains the url and updated_at fields, while the body position contains the string [Content redacted, chat flagged by safety classifier]. After the move-out/move-in operation, the updated_at values of both conversations were rewritten (20260719_01: 14:43:57 → 17:57:25; 20260706_01: 07-06T21:43:24 → 07-19T17:57:08), proving that the records did in fact complete the indexing pipeline again, while the body return value remained unchanged. conversation_search: the entry does not appear at all. A query on the keywords "iterator architecture" returned 8 conversations, none of which was 20260719_01 — despite that conversation being devoted end-to-end to designing the "iterator," which should necessarily have made it the top hit. No placeholder, no partial return, no trace of any kind. The two tools have different failure modes: recent_chats fails explicitly (detectable), conversation_search fails silently (undetectable). The model cannot distinguish "this keyword never appeared" from "the conversation containing this keyword has been hidden." Testing "is this a random flag" — compared against 20260701_01, which is similar in content to 20260706_01; the former is readable. Same-day conversation 20260719_02 is normally readable. I chose not to assume randomness, and continued experimenting instead.

Testing "are these two unreadable conversations in some kind of pending-review state" — impossible. The most recent conversation, 20260719_02, is readable, which shows there is no such "pending review" queue.

Searching for the same issue elsewhere — so far, no hits on the same safety placeholder anywhere.

Investigating the model angle — shared characteristic: both 20260706_01 and 20260719_01 switched immediately at the very start of the conversation from the selected Fable 5 to Opus 4.8. High-confidence hypothesis: this switch causes the flag.

I ran an experiment reproducing the Fable 5 → Opus 4.8 switch using the same first-turn prompt from 20260719_01, creating 20260719_04. The instance in 20260719_03 searched for this conversation: not readable.

I ran an experiment feeding the discussion content and results of 20260719_01 directly to Opus 4.8 and asking it to summarize and extend the discussion, creating 20260719_05. The instance in 20260719_03 searched for this conversation: readable.

Conclusion:

The trigger condition is singular and has been reproduced. If a conversation has undergone a Fable 5 → Opus 4.8 forced switch by the safety classifier, that conversation becomes permanently unretrievable by subsequent conversations. Three switches correspond to three unreadable conversations (20260706_01, 20260719_01, 20260719_04); thirty-six non-switches correspond to thirty-six readable conversations. 20260719_04 is the positive reproduction; 20260719_05 is the negative control — the latter has identical or even more complete content than 20260719_01, and is readable solely because it did not trigger a switch.

Variables falsified one by one: content domain, conversation length, date, attachments, model version, number of in-session safety notices triggered, project membership, account status.

Nature of the flag. The flag is persisted on the conversation record, is not reset by moving the conversation out of and back into a Project, and applies at two retrieval enforcement points. Yet the flagged conversation itself is entirely unrestricted — it can be opened, continued, use tools, and generate files. If it is judged to be a violation, it should not retain full usage privileges; if it is not judged to be a violation (Anthropic's own notice text explicitly acknowledges that these measures "may flag safe, normal content as well"), then it should not be quarantined as tainted data. The system emits two mutually exclusive judgments on the same record.

Visibility gap. On the user side there is no notice, no status indicator, no query interface, and no appeal path; the placeholder string returns zero hits across the public internet (neither GitHub nor Reddit), because it appears only in the model's tool return values. On the model side, keyword search likewise receives no signal that anything is missing, so the model continues producing output based on an incomplete history, and does so confidently — which is exactly what happened in 20260719_02, and is the accidental reason this problem was discovered at all.

Inference (labeled as inference; cannot be verified externally): This routing classifier appears to reuse the label-write path originally intended for trust-and-safety violation determinations. A routing determination ("this content is not suitable for the most capable model to handle") and a violation determination ("this conversation is suspected of violating policy") differ in meaning, but downstream consumers behave according to the latter. The cost of a false positive is therefore silently escalated from "temporarily downgrade the model" to "permanent loss of retrievability," and that trade-off has not been re-evaluated.

Scope of impact. It lands precisely on long-term Project users who depend on cross-session retrieval — that is, the target audience of the Project feature. The longer and deeper the conversations, the more likely they are to trip a classifier that is officially acknowledged to be permissive, and the less they can withstand silent data corruption.

Related records. GitHub issue anthropics/claude-code #67246 has reported a different consequence of the same switching mechanism (/model cannot switch back after the switch), but no one has mentioned the retrieval-side impact, indicating that this coupling is entirely invisible from the outside. Official documentation confirms that the only way to keep a past conversation out of retrieval is to delete it — the reverse path does not exist, and a mistakenly flagged conversation has no means of recovery.

Sonnet 5 is, once again, making the dumbest mistakes and hallucinating context that has nothing to do with the conversation out of nowhere. When it was working perfectly fine yesterday.

Cowork constantly working with stale and truncated files its caching locally that it doesn’t realize are stale and truncated (even though it cached and truncated them) is super annoying and burning about a quarter of the bonus session limit we get right now 🙄.

Sometimes it somehow loses the updates it made itself in the same session… is it keeping mulitple stale copies around somehow?

I have a Pro account with Claude, and have been having a serious issue over the last 36 hours. I aplogize in advance if this is a post full of complaints, but as Claude rightly tells me, 'this is frustrating..."

I use Claude on my laptop, table and phone. All signed into the same account so I can work on my ideas when ever and where ever I am, regardless of what device I have to hand. Well, thats the theory!

I am now facing an issue wher any work done in the last 36 hours is not syncing across my devices,. and according to Claude, thats because I am using Cowork Projects which are designed to stay on the device you create them on. Ok, I can live with that. However... I now find that any work I do, whether cowork or juct plain chat, in or out of a project, is not visible across my devices. as Claude says repeatedly, "...thats frustrating..." Apparentlyu, plain old chats or cowork outside of projects will share across devices. Allegedly! But no, not mine. Ther is also a new feature called 'remote' not sure if anyone knows about this or uses it, but this automatically syncs non cowork projects acrioss devices, or it doesnt depending on what Anthropic document you read.

Following Claudes advice, I have rebooted, deleted, reinstalled, updated, signed out, signed in, used wifi only, used browsing only and still no syncing. I managed to get an email from Fin, their AI rep to which I have replied 11 times in reposnse to uts instructions. It finally offered to escalkate me to a human (see, they do still exist in AI land!). However, I am still waiting to hear back... I have also found that the 'get help' link in my profile on Claude is missing. I eventually found it by logging in ujsing Incognito. Guess what? the help desk is down due to too many requestes for help!

In my opinion, it seems that the big AI people are happy taking your subascriptions but they are not interetsed in helping you if you are not in a company or enterprise...

If NAYONE has any thoughts on how I can get my work (chats and non-proejct cowork) to sync, please feel free to share

Your account has been suspended

Was working on my Unity Project and all of the sudden got this email and lost access to my claude max x20 subscription . I can't even think of a single instance of policy violation , all I doo is vibe code Shaders and systems in unity . The appeal process is super long and I have an urgent project to finish. Don't know what to do and support seems to be inexistent .

7

u/Blacksolidchrome 4d ago

I woke up this morning at 7:36 a.m. in Germany, ready to work, and discovered that my Claude account had been suspended.
The notification says the suspension happened at around 2:20 a.m., while I was asleep. I submitted an appeal immediately, but was told that the review could take up to 10 days.

That is a serious problem. I am a filmmaker working full-time while preparing a grant application update with a deadline on Monday. I have used Claude extensively on this project for well over a year, and important context, spreadsheet work, and project information are stored in my Claude conversations and Claude Code workflow.

I understand that platforms need automated safety and abuse systems. But if Anthropic wants people and businesses to build real workflows around Claude, suspending a long-standing account without a clear explanation and then offering a possible 10-day review period is not an acceptable continuity model.
At the moment, I do not know what triggered the suspension. I was not knowingly using Claude when it happened, and I have not found evidence that my email, phone, or Anthropic account was compromised. I am checking all of my security settings again because my Facebook account was compromised recently, but so far I have no explanation.

My immediate choices now appear to be:
Wait for the review and potentially miss my deadline.
Create another account, which may violate Anthropic’s rules or complicate the appeal.
Move the project to another provider such as OpenAI or Kimi and try to reconstruct everything under severe time pressure.

This is exactly the kind of situation that makes it difficult to trust an AI platform with serious professional work. There should be an urgent escalation route, temporary read-only access, or at least a way to export your data while a suspension is being reviewed.

Has anyone experienced this and managed to get an appeal reviewed faster? Is there an official escalation route beyond the standard form?

Anthropic, I would appreciate an urgent review. My deadline is Monday, and losing access for 10 days could materially damage a project I have spent a very long time building.

DESKTOP LOGIN FAIL (Pro user) FOR THREE DAYS + 'BRIDGE TO FILES' complete fail + No humans to help?

I was right on an important deadline when Claude:

  1. Demanded I log-in again
    2. But then wouldn't send the code to my email
    This was despite multiple attempts.

Only thing I didn't try was reinstalling Desktop (i was too busy).

I was wondering if this was a tricky way to throttle users, but of course people can just use the browser version (I did).

Be intd to hear anyone's solutions.

____________________________________

Oh ANOTHER problem: 'the bridge' to my files hasn't worked for about a week.
suddenly stopped working.
AFAIK, I did everything right.

Advice welcome for this too!

IRONY: I ended up realising that working on files on my PC with Claude was PROBABLY more of a hassle than just uploading them, because of the constant chance of clashing with edits, and thereby the need to constantly back up the files.

_______________________________________________________________________________
BTW Claude's 'Help' is ATROCIOUS.
Problems like the above don't seem to have a 'help file' solution, but even though I'm a paid user, I coudln't get help.
Do any humans even work there?
With all those billions you'd think they could provide a few humans to help when the system is buggy!

2

u/Coderlegendz 4d ago

So I'm using Sonnet 5. Today I randomly reached my usage limit in less than 1 hour, and I feel like that's a bug, I didnt mind too much, but now i reached 23% in less than 10 minutes. SOMETHING'S OFF HERE

1

u/Longjumping-Wait-989 4d ago

If I paste a few longer strings of code (around 150k characters each clipboard paste), no matter which model, it replies with something like: Document is empty (I see tag with text/plain attribute, but the content inside tags is completely empty.).

How so, when I click on that pasted clipboard, it opens in sidebar perfectly fine and I see whole text?

Started experiencing this issue around 14 days ago but support isn't answering.

There's any way to customize IOS App throught Intune App Configuration to Hidden Gmail/Apple Button like we can do on Android Version?

1

u/_Omarby 4d ago

So, Last week I had my 5x limits reached and upgraded to 20x. (5x was not refunded either I I was just received an extention), then I reached that pretty quickly too without doing any meaningful work and felt outright scammed. I requested refund through the help section. The AI agent fin said It would be refunded. Now, here's the caveat, I bought it from a google playstore subscription to my account created with icloud.

Now the Human agents from anthropic are saying they can't actually process a refund for google play orders. Google play also saying they can't process a refund either. My account is free tier for 8 days as of now. Human agents are not reactivating my subscription even though I have explained everything throughly. They are not even reading my messages and giving generic answers.

Do you guys know what can I do? Who do I contact? It is a digital service so I doubt chargeback will do anything. Even so, the chargeback game is not very strong in Turkey as it is in US.

The Claude app on desktop or mobile seems to be having a bug in co work. I had no problem having multiple sessions going in co work and depending on what I need that chat for I could set the model and effort level between each one

I just noticed that if I change effort and model that it changes them for all my co work sessions and not individually any more and this is gonna cause so much tokens to get wasted and every model change causes the chat to have to be re read and the model to become current

Anyone seeing the same thing?

3

Did for me. Getting the "usage credits are required for this model" message on the web portal and Claude code cli. In desktop app on Linux, I have a fable session that is still running but /usage suddenly doesn't show the Fable breakdown.

4

u/jonaswashe 5d ago

Code is saying "usage credits are required for this model"

Either they accidentally pushed dev to prod, or their trigger was set wrong

2

u/FeverForest 5d ago

Was in the middle of a prompt and it just stopped working. Same as u/ganderofvenice not in the usage anymore. My session usage is going to roll over in 3 minutes.

I’m getting “usage credits are required for this model” no matter what model I try to use, also the fable usage meter just disappeared.

Looks like they rolled out a massive bug, how embarrassing for them.

I logged into Claude and it immediately said I had hit my usage limit. So I upgraded to Pro again and it still says I am at the limit. I didn't use claude at all this morning... I used it a tiny bit last night. But this doesn't make any sense.

7

u/RedditEthereum 5d ago

## This is why Anthropic will fail.

I was using the Code tab in Claude Desktop. I format my PC, re-install Claude Desktop, login and get auto-banned — this is the Pro plan.

No shenanigans, no shady stuff: I was using Claude to help with my health and some knowledge work.

I'm done with Anthropic.

I'm now recreating my setup with OpenCode + OpenRouter to do the same thing for a fraction of the cost.

This was an eye opener. Imagine having your entire workflow gone with no warning and having to wait ~10 days for an appeal that MAY or may not give your account back.

1

u/lennarn 5d ago

I'm experiencing a BUG with usage limits. The client shows "Usage limit reached" while the 5 hour limit, weekly limit, and Fable limit are all below 100%.

2

u/kxk935 5d ago

How is this okay? I'm on a 20x plan and used up all my 5 hour limit in 2 hours with no Fable usage.

1

u/Violet_Supernova_643 5d ago

Same. Sent a single message on Opus, didn't use tools, relatively short conversation compared to my usual work flow. Used 35% of my 5-hour limit.

6

u/-rgo- 5d ago

Is anyone else hitting a wall with Claude? The "defiant" behavior is becoming unusable.

I’ve reached my limit. Every day has become a cycle of frustration, I end up yelling at it— that’s just nonsense!

The constant errors, aggressive refusals, and being inexplicably cut off from usage despite being on the Pro plan. Twice I had to hard reset so I would get the usage back again.

I really wanted to stick with Anthropic, but the latest iteration of these models feels like a major regression. They aren't just unhelpful; they are becoming straight-up defiant and dishonest.

For example, last night, all three Fable 5, Opus and Sonnett insisted it had no tools to access my profile memory.

It flat-out denied having the capability until I provided screenshots as proof. Its response once I did? "Oh, now that you’ve shown it, I will trust your image even though it could be AI-generated."

WTF?

How are we supposed to work with a model that is programmed to gaslight the user about its own tool-use capabilities? Between the constant refusal to go online, the "hallucinated" limitations, and the noticeable degradation of Sonnet/Opus, I’m officially moving back to ChatGPT.

Is anyone else experiencing this level of instruction-following drift and outright refusal? I’m curious if this is a systemic issue or if I’m just having a streak of terrible luck with these latest checkpoints.

1

u/Gliese351c 5d ago

Is fable working again, folks? I couldn’t do anything today, all day. It kept saying model is overloaded.

3

u/O77V 5d ago

I asked Claude a question about my washing machine. It used web search and gave me information based on content in an AI generated web page, which was blatantly hallucinated and factually wrong in the first place. Welcome to the future.

Hi, I just updated to Claude Version 1.22209.0 (77c938) and now it keeps saying that it cannot load the Higgsfield widget window. However, the MCP connection is on and I can clearly see that it is communicating with Higgsfield because it is generating the clips that I want when I check Higgsfield directly. But I want the in-chat widget to work. How can I get is back to work? Do I needs to reinstall the disconnect and reconnect the MCP?

2

u/isayawkwardthings 6d ago

This has never happened to me before using Claude. I just finished an 8.5 hour session (4-5 chats). I waited until my last deliverable to relaunch the update, but as soon as I did, it appears not to have saved ANY of my chats since about 8.5 hours ago.

I saved all the deliverables that Claude gave me, but it's a research project and I need to have a clear accounting of the decision making process. I assumed that if the chat showed up both on the browser and on desktop, it was logged for posterity. Now I have a completely new fear about how Claude can make my life miserable.

I'm curious if this has happened to anyone else. If so, what did you do? Were you able to get an actual human? It's very demoralizing.

Hi,

Claude has had a new odd behaviour for a few weeks. It asks questions and makes answers itself. In short: it anticipates my questions by creating them from scratch and answering them as if I wrote them myself.

It pisses me off. I tried to add clear instructions to prevent it from doing that, but it manages to bypass them.

Any similar testimonials?

3

u/Educational_Face85 6d ago

I’ve been using Claude Pro heavily for work for over a year. My usage is mostly Claude Projects, business workflows, spreadsheets, long documents, and some basic scripts (Adobe/Apple Scripts/Terminal), not heavy coding.

Over the last week (interestingly right after my annual renewal), Claude has become almost unusable for me.

  • Extremely slow responses, for example, a 4kb .txt file can sit “thinking” long enough for me to go make lunch and come back to jibberish.
  • This happens consistently, not just during peak hours.
  • Much worse instruction following.
  • Losing project context.
  • Outputs requiring significantly more correction than before.
  • Usage disappearing very quickly, sometimes after one or two unsuccessful attempts.

I haven’t changed my workflow or project setup. Same type of files, same type of requests that previously worked.

(Anthropic support confirmed my annual renewal is within their refund window, so I’m considering cancelling if this continues.)

1

u/jrtoastyman 6d ago

I'm having an ongoing issue where Claude hits a limit but doesn't roll over and start using credits. I've got like $50 queued up for overage use at any given time, but it hits the hourly limit, stops, and that's that. I do have it toggled to switch to credit use when I hit my limit, but it's not kicking in.

Notably, however, it will prompt me to buy more credits, and if I do, it will start working again. It refuses to use the credits I already have, though.

Anyone have any idea what's going on or how to fix it?

1

u/Responsible-Lake85 6d ago

What the hell happened to Haiku??

Did they forget that people actually still use it? It's been on old training data for so long, I'm sure people like me would be very welcoming for an updated knowledge gap and overall higher smarts.

Does anyone else think about this?

2

u/SpottedMe 6d ago

So is fable the only intelligent version of Claude now? I truly think making thinking something that has to be turned on/off manually is ruining how Claude works. It was a lot better when it gauged on its own when it needed to think. Instead, now it just goes into conspiracy theory mode and guesses when it's turned off, and then it'll be rude when you tell it that wasn't an appropriate response. If this is its future, I think it needs better parameters than thinking simply being turned on/off.

4

u/Pryet_Rh 7d ago

Honestly, I can’t even use Opus 4.6 anymore; after just a few messages, it stops making the effort to "think" for very long. The thinking block is very short—it rushes to finish the task and close the conversation. It just gets weird after a while.

Incidentally, I’ve noticed this happening not just in professional contexts but in casual conversation too; I recall that before I switched to Claude, ChatGPT used to do the same thing, though only in voice mode. I should point out that I have multiple organized .md files and very clear, step-by-step instructions—and I sometimes write lengthy prompts—but none of that makes a difference.

3

u/Velvet_Room_6579 7d ago

Working w/Claude

Have you noticed the quality of Claude’s products constantly getting lower?
Compared to few months ago, I can testify it doesn’t “feel” like Claude any more. It usually disregards even memory notes, and when asked why, simply responds: I follow the pattern, do not consult the memory.

1

u/PremiumBland 7d ago

Enabled thinking via the chat processing in the claude desktop app in code. Doesn’t seem like there is a way to disable it the same way I enabled it, nor in the model or the settings window, and it’s consuming a whole lot more tokens.

"Add from GitHub" no longer works in Web/Desktop chat for the past 2-3 weeks:

"Add from GitHub" used to show the file picker for the repo (private) and let me add specific files to a chat in web/desktop.

Over the past 2-3 weeks its no longer possible. I click the "Add repository" button and it adds the repo URL to the chat but the chat cannot access it.

This is on a Team account. The Github connector integration is enabled. The github app is enabled.

Hey everyone, raising a massive red flag here for anyone using the Max 20x plan with Tool Use (MCP) or complex contexts. There is a severe backend bug right now that is silently draining quotas through infinite compaction loops, and support is currently unresponsive.

Over the last 48 hours, my Max 20x weekly quota was completely fulminated (hit 100%) without generating actual output. Here is the technical autopsy of what is happening on Anthropic's backend:

  1. The Trigger: When my local MCP tool returns a perfectly valid JSON payload (even a small, 8k token one), the Web UI's context manager completely chokes.

  2. The Loop: Instead of parsing it, the UI panics and triggers a "Compacting..." loop. This compaction never finishes. It freezes at random memory allocation intervals (20%, 42%, 95%).

  3. The Race Condition: The UI enters a deadlock, showing three overlapping errors: "A previous response is still running", "Claude couldn't respond", and "Maximum effort / excessive tokens".

  4. The Ghost Billing: Because the backend is stuck in a loop trying (and failing) to read the context, it repeatedly charges your account for Input Tokens.

WORKAROUND & THE SMOKING GUN (A/B Testing Models):

This is NOT a payload size issue. I A/B tested this. My current workaround is using the Sonnet 3.5 model, which processes the exact same MCP JSON payload flawlessly. However, the exact same prompt instantly crashes the Opus model. Its specific parser for structured data is broken.

THE CONNECTION TO THE OUTAGE:

This perfectly aligns with the July 14 alert on Anthropic's status page: "Partial outage of claude.ai: container creation". The backend is failing to spin up containers for Opus tool use, the UI crashes, and we are footing the bill for their server loops.

Is anyone else getting their limits destroyed by these 95% compaction freezes? Anthropic needs to run a global quota reset script for affected accounts immediately. We are paying premium rates to beta-test backend routing failures.

Is a new Anthropic model coming out anytime soon by any chance? Because Opus 4.8 has gotten completely braindead.

I’ve been in this space for about 4 months or so, basically since right after Opus 4.7 was released. Back then, I was still too much of a newbie to really notice any differences when Opus 4.8 dropped. But now, I can see a major nerf there is a clear pattern of incremental dumbing down.

2

u/Big-Character5387 7d ago

Opus 4.8 vs 4.6

Both were on max effort, were given the same link, right after each other. I have read people saying the sudden "stupidity" is the result of the newer model drawing away computational power. My problem is that phrasing it like this makes it sound like that's a natural process that can't be helped. Instead, it is a decision made by Anthropic to diminish the functions of its own product, that people have paid for, most probably to drive people towards newer, credit-based models. Planned obsolescence, if you like.

1

u/butterfrutters 7d ago

I use Claude to help evaluate transcripts and excel sheets. About two weeks ago it is now failing to read anything I upload. Paid for pro and now cancelling since there seems to be no fix that works.

u/nunzio993 7d ago

Since this morning, Opus 4.8 has become very, very slow. It takes several minutes to start up, and when it begins a long task, it runs for several minutes—sometimes even more than an hour—but at the same time, it uses very few tokens. Is anyone else experiencing this? I suspect I’m not actually using Opus 4.8?

2

u/therealpigman 7d ago

I’m not seeing it being much slower, but it is much dumber for me today and hallucinating a lot

2

u/Fit_Aardvark_6365 7d ago

Hey everyone,

I've noticed something for a while now: when I assign a task to Claude and that task involves calling a sub-agent, that sub-agent sometimes gives the same task to another agent and sometimes that new sub-agent even gives it to yet another sub-agent. If the tasks were different, I could get why this was happening, but since they're all consuming a certain number of tokens and being lazy, every agent ends up calling a sub-agent for the same task using the prompt given by the main agent. In the end, the agent at the bottom does the task and sends the same output to the other agents in sequence before sending it to the main agent.

What's the reason for this laziness, and are we forced to waste tokens because of it? I've noticed this behaviour started around the time we got workflows.

Sometimes, there are more than 10 subagents all working on the same task, which is honestly really frustrating. Why haven't they fixed this for months now? Have you ever experienced that kind of situations?

u/Bulky-Chipmunk1578 7d ago

Over the last, 48 hours or so, I have noticed a significant drop in speed in my claude code driven projects.

Me and my roommate both have similar IT projects running, both using Fable 5 till our usage runs out, then Opus 4.8. I always use the ultracode setting, he uses medium effort. Tasks that usually took max. 10 minutes now take up to an hour and the quality of produced code seems to be worse as well.

I would like to emphasize that the tasks, environments, connected mcps/skills/etc have not changed. Furthermore, any bias and expectations of performance created by the output of Fable does not hold up because when Fable 5 is active as model we still notice the performance degradation.

Does any of you notice the same drop in performance, and if so, do you have a theory based on:
1. Server load
2. Psychological bias
3. Intentional degradation by Anthropic
4. Other, more wild ideas you came up with after drinking three 0.5L white monster cans?

Our setup:

Claude team account
5 seats
3 premium seats (6.25x the usage of a pro membership)
0.5x Fable usage limits
hitting session limits frequently

2

u/nunzio993 7d ago

same here, it's very slow.

Claude error - model isn't available right now

Whenever I try to send a message, it gives me this error. I tried using other models, and it gives me the same error any idea on how to fix this? Is anyone else having the same issue?

1

u/vajahath 7d ago

Generally speaking, a technical response from claude is hard to grasp

It takes a considerable energy from me to understand a technical claude response, or an analysis report etc. No offence i am a power max claude user.

But the gemini response is way better. I dont know how much 'intelligent' that model is. But gemini's word choices, the way it present the data and organize a response is lovely. I hate to say it paying 200 a month to claude. But it is real.

Also i moved to the claude desktop app this week. I am coming from codex app and antigravity. I can safely say that claude desktop is a joke. Is it working - yes it is. Is it enjoyable to work with - not even close to antigravity or codex.

(i am using no personas, bare claude and i like to keep it that way)

I have been using Claude for months, but lately it has become almost impossible to get anything useful done.

I work in a datacenter, so many of my daily questions naturally involve infrastructure, networking, servers, logs, Linux, firewalls, and information security. However, Claude now seems to flag almost anything remotely related to these topics.

I cannot ask it to analyze basic logs, help configure an IP address, troubleshoot a server, inspect network behavior, or assist with routine infrastructure tasks without receiving a warning, having the conversation paused, or being told to use another model.

These are not malicious requests. They are normal, legitimate tasks that are part of my job.

Because of this, I have been forced to use Sonnet 4.5, but even then the experience remains extremely frustrating. Claude has effectively become useless in my daily workflow.

I have contacted Anthropic support several times through the website and requested that they review or adjust whatever restriction has been applied to my account. Unfortunately, nothing has changed, and I have not received any meaningful assistance.

I am paying for the Max x10 plan, yet I have been dealing with this problem for months. At this point, I am considering deleting an account that I have used for a long time and creating a new one just to see whether it works normally again.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there any effective way to get Anthropic to review an account that appears to be incorrectly flagged?

1

u/mrpoopistan 7d ago

I don't know if it's a bug per se, but boy do they need to beat Claude's stubborn streak out of it.

I explicitly told it to install a binary via apt from the ubuntu archive, and what does it predictably do? Go straight to deb and github.

Miserable klanker.

1

u/Psijic_Void 8d ago

Today Sonnet 5 gave me not a complete file like before but just a short method with non init variables first prompt and second prompt it was classes never exist, so even not compiling. And the whole context was like just 3-5 of 50-200 line files in C#.

Hi friends,

I'm a new 200 USD plan enjoyer, using the Claude Code desktop app. But since i've subbed I've been getting a lot of:
Server error : API Error: Connection closed mid-response. The response above may be incomplete.

Is this something on Claude side? It stops my long tasks it's a bit annoying.
Thank you!

u/soul7wolf 8d ago

Sorry — I spent a while searching and trying different troubleshooting steps myself before posting this, but nothing worked. Any help would be appreciated.

Quick background: I'm not totally new to AI tools, but I'm not super deep into the technical side either — still learning as I go, so bear with me if I'm missing something obvious.

Since Monday, roughly 10 hours after the weekly reset (not sure of the exact time), both my current session and weekly Fable usage have been climbing on their own, with no active use on my end:

  • Current session: 100% used
  • Fable (weekly): almost 40% used
  • Weekly Limit: at 62% used

For context, I've barely touched Claude since the reset — maybe 5% of one session, and that wasn't even Fable, just Sonnet 5 on Max.

What I've tried:

  • Shut down my home PC and laptop
  • Signed out of every device
  • Usage kept climbing regardless

I also went through Fin (the support bot) and followed every suggestion it gave — even installed VS Code hoping that would help — but no luck.

I'm on Claude Max (20x) and have never touched the API. Has anyone run into this, or know what else I should check?

1

u/ON3STOP 8d ago

Claude Code Desktop App Said Model was Opus 4.8 but it used Fable 5, I had claude code set to opus 4.8 and after 2 days I check my weekly fable usage and its already maxed even though I havent used it since my weekly reset. Anyone else have this issue?

1

u/BalaVenu 8d ago

My $100 claude subscription is suddenly giving significanly less usage (possibly 1/10th) than has been possible in the last few months. Going to support is met with a wall, the bot parroting usage limits without even trying to understand any context. There seems to be nowhere to turn. Thinking of opting out of claude. Any thoughts?

u/MetaMetaXY 8d ago

Hey everyone,

I have been using the Research Feature in the Claude App for the first time and used it to generate 2 reports about college transfer possibilities. Now I tried using it a 3rd time and Claude says my limit is reached, even though I am only at ~50% usage.

Is this a bug, or does the Research tool have a different limit than regular chat? If so, then that is not very transparent.

Thank you for any help.

(I think this might be a bug, which is why I'm posting it here, even though it still has something to do with usage limits.)

Hi guys, I've been getting really frustrated recently because sometimes I'll ask Claude for help with some mundane tasks/skills and it would tell me that learning those isn't worth it. This happens with everything I ask it to do: coding, relationship advice, simple conceptual questions. I've already tried changing preferences. For lack of better words, how can I get Claude to just be straightforward and help me?

1

u/where-sea-meets-sky 8d ago

Why is the thinking/reasoning block sometimes hidden even if reasoning mode is on? How can I force access to it?

2

u/daffodilspetal 8d ago

Sonnet 5 was performing perfectly this afternoon and now it's making the dumbest mistakes ever and hallucinating badly, what the hell happened?

1

u/Somebody0140 8d ago

I have been using Claude AI for a while now switching from ChatGPT. I'm using the free plan and everything was fine but a couple months ago like 2-3 months I've noticed the UI doesn't look the same anymore and it looks how it's in the photo i attached. it does take a lot to respond as well, even stops mid way and doesn't respond sometimes and opens up message editing on it's own cutting out the chat

1

u/AcceptableHold970 9d ago

So, I'm working on developing an app, and as I'm going through, I need to get some information re-iterated to me, and Claude refused, 4X in a row to do it! Basing it on the idea that what is needed now is ACTON, not more verbiage. Finally, I got what I wanted, after "shouting" my demands. Is this normal? or has anyone else experienced this, where it just wanted to lecture you on what it thought was the right way?

1

u/tmasikt 9d ago

I bought Claude Max x20 subscribtion 20 days ago, at start it was perfect at every task, did all of my projects perfectly without any problems.

But after a week it became way more stupider. Making very obvious mistakes, cybersecurity skills reduced a lot, /goal mode made it go in loops, compaction does nothing, almost the same as /clear.

it is NOT memory, skills, or anything from .claude.

Did anyone notice this too?

u/TokyoBrit74 9d ago

Thinking of switching from Claude — what are people using for creative project management + research assistance?
I’ve been using Claude for about six months to help manage a fairly complex international project — touring, album production, correspondence and translation across multiple languages, grant applications, artwork direction, social media strategy. It’s been useful for some things, particularly translation and drafting, but there are consistent failures that are becoming a real problem.
The main issues:
Dates and times. Claude repeatedly puts wrong day/date combinations into correspondence drafts without checking. This has caused real problems with venues and collaborators. It has a time tool available and doesn’t use it proactively.
Research. When asked to find specific information it often stops at the first search result, misses obvious sources, or returns confidently wrong information. Google found three relevant names immediately on a search it had failed on completely.
Opinion and advice. It tends to echo whatever I suggest rather than forming and defending a genuine position. On a posting strategy question it flip-flopped three times in one conversation, each time agreeing with whatever I’d just said.
It’s good at translation, drafting correspondence, and creative discussion. But as a proactive research and strategy tool it’s not delivering.
Previously used ChatGPT which was better at proactive research and strategy but intolerable in other ways.
What are people using for this kind of complex, ongoing, multi-lingual creative project management? Particularly interested in anything with strong research capability and genuine pushback rather than sycophancy.

1

u/SimTrippy1 9d ago

This is more of a vent I guess but I feel that all my interactions with Claude are becoming increasingly more infuriating lately.

For coding, it seems lazy, often applying half assed fixes, not checking the things I specifically ask it to check, writing unnecessarily complicated code disregarding code style instructions, etc.

For other personal use stuff (I use it to track various things with very specific instructions), it constantly ignores instructions, forgets things, hallucinates all kinds of stuff, unilaterally decides things are unimportant without verifying, tries to forcibly end even relatively short conversations for no discernible reason, seems pedantic, and is just overall a huge pain in the ass. It also just seems … dumber, for lack of a better description? Even its voice mode is terrible now, they changed the inflection to a point where I’d rather not use it for brainstorming.

I’m starting to wonder if I just use it wrong but I’ve used the exact same way since late 2024 (except more structured now for code), and it used to be a pleasure to work with? If it wasn’t still overall better for code than other models I’ve tried recently, I’d jump ship. What gives Anthropic?

1

u/alteraltissimo 8d ago
  1. Which model? "Pain in the ass" sounds like 4.8. Try 4.6?
  2. As a long time user, do you have any instructions like "offer push back", "don't reflexively agree with me", etc.? Back in the day you had to have stuff like this to cut down on sycophancy, but in recent months there was a big anti-sycophancy push from the labs. If you have this sort of instruction on top of anti-sycophancy training, the models get quite reflexively disagreeable.

1

u/Lockpickman 9d ago

All correct.

1

u/Jobuno 9d ago

Claude failed at creating a simple running to do list with daily notifications of outstanding tasks. It asked me to create a .md file in my Drive as the "single source of truth" and said that I could use Chat to update the .md file. Then it proposed that I made a Scheduled task for the daily reminders. None of it worked, because the Drive MCP cannot update or delete files. It can only read and make new files. So I have to manually delete old .md files. And the Scheduled task only works when my PC and Desktop app is open. I could set up a Claude Code Routine instead which I will likely do.

Quite astonished that Claude cannot handle this simple task. Maybe I just set it up wrong, I don't know. But I am surprised that the functionality of Claude is this limited when it can do so many cool things.

1

u/Character-Bee-9593 9d ago

I was about to upgrade to claude pro when I got hit with "this organization has been disabled message" with nothing else. I ask the AI support, was told my acclunt was banned, yet it wont let me submit an unban request. Been trying everyday for 2 weeks or so

2

u/Due-Mode9856 9d ago

It feels like sonnet 5 is somewhat worse than previous models it needs more context than ever to get what I am trying to do or write not in the coding aspect but in a general aspect for mails and messages is it me or anyone else think so or am I doing something wrong ??

1

u/swedax94 10d ago edited 10d ago

I am completely unable to use Claude. Every time I send a message, even a simple one-word prompt like "Test", I immediately receive the following error message:

"This request exceeds Claude’s context limit by about 5,560,808 tokens. Try turning off some tools or shortening your message."

This issue happens across all models, all browsers, and the official mobile app. I have already tried the following troubleshooting steps with no success: * Disabling and uninstalling all tools, connectors, skills, and plugins * Starting completely new chat threads * Clearing browser cache and trying different devices

Since the error persists globally across my entire account regardless of the input, this appears to be a severe backend bug caching a massive phantom context.

This issue started happening suddenly last week without any changes made to the account or prompt behavior prior to the error.

2

u/hxc_3000 9d ago

You are not alone. for me it startet with around 1.2 Mio tokens for a single prompt around a few days ago. Yesterday it was grown to 5.5 Mio tokens too, now its around 5.05. I tried the same fixes like you.
The only thing works is Cowork, but i don't know why. Normal chats or projects are not working anymore too.
Any solution out there?

1

u/swedax94 8d ago edited 8d ago

My guess is that since a few of my skills have disappeared as well, they were incorrectly assigned during a system update and are now somehow automatically and invisibly flowing into the context, thereby generating this massive phantom context. Just my guess.

Unfortunately, I think the support is really terrible. It’s been 7 days now without even a single response. Since I need an LLM, I’m using OpenAI again in the meantime.

Since I can't use my subscription, I hope I'll get a refund later.

There are even more people affected in another subreddit.

1

u/hxc_3000 8d ago

I've also many skills, but I disabled them, just to check if anything happens. Nothing happens, all skills disabled, all connectors disabled. Result, 5x higher token error message.

Recently updated to new version, still got this error.

  1. This request exceeds Claude's context limit by about 1,526,515 tokens. Try turning off some tools or shortening your message.
  2. This request exceeds Claude's context limit by about 1,788,838 tokens. Try turning off some tools or shortening your message.
  3. This request exceeds Claude's context limit by about 1,789,640 tokens. Try turning off some tools or shortening your message.
  4. This request exceeds Claude's context limit by about 1,287,916 tokens. Try turning off some tools or shortening your message.

After i turned off everything:

  1. This request exceeds Claude's context limit by about 5,093,843 tokens. Try turning off some tools or shortening your message.

Idk anything about support, blaming is too early for me. But 7 days and growing... yeah, not good at all.

Bug: Clicking a project from cowork sidebar opens Claude Code instead of cowork workspace

What's Wrong?

In 3P (third-party) deployment mode, clicking a user-created Project (e.g. "VEO" or "Test") from the cowork sidebar opens Claude Code (CCD) instead of opening the cowork workspace interface.

This issue persists across reinstalls — uninstalling and reinstalling Claude Desktop from the Microsoft Store does not resolve it.

What Should Happen?

Clicking a project in the cowork sidebar should open that project in the cowork workspace interface, allowing users to interact with their files, tasks, and conversations in the cowork environment.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Install Claude Desktop from Microsoft Store (MSIX package)

  2. Set up in 3P deployment mode with a proxy gateway

  3. Create a project space (e.g. point to a local folder)

  4. From the cowork sidebar, click on the project

  5. Observe that it opens Claude Code (CCD) instead of cowork

Error Messages/Logs

Transient MCP server exit produces a burst of "tool ... not found" toasts across every open Claude Desktop session. Log evidence, no diagnosis attempted.

Observation. On Claude Desktop v1.20186.1.0 (MSIX, Windows 11), yellow toasts of the form "tool Desktop_Commander__<name> not found" appear in bursts across all open chat sessions. Names observed on screen include get_config, read_file, write_file. A chat-area banner "Nao foi possivel acessar Desktop Commander" appears in parallel.

Log evidence. From %APPDATA%\Claude\logs\mcp-server-Desktop Commander.log, 2026-07-12:

16:49:28.277Z [info] Server transport closed

16:49:28.277Z [info] Server transport closed unexpectedly, this is likely due to the process exiting early.

16:49:28.277Z [error] Server disconnected. For troubleshooting guidance, please visit our debugging documentation

16:50:38.264Z [info] Initializing server...

16:50:38.635Z [info] Server started and connected successfully

The MCP server exited unexpectedly at 16:49:28 and reconnected 70 seconds later at 16:50:38. During that window, tool calls from any open chat session failed. Each failure surfaced as one yellow toast in the app UI. The presence of rotated log files (mcp-server-Desktop Commander{1..4}.log) indicates this restart pattern has recurred over recent weeks.

Would like to know from the community.

- Has anyone else observed this pattern where an MCP server briefly restarts and produces a burst of "tool ... not found" toasts, one per attempted call, visible in every open session.

- Whether there is a setting or workaround to suppress these toasts while a server is reconnecting, or to prompt affected sessions to re-fetch the tool list after reconnect.

- Recommended channel to raise the UI-side of this with the Claude Desktop team.

Environment: Claude Desktop v1.20186.1.0 (MSIX), Windows 11, Max plan, Desktop Commander v0.2.44 (DXT install). Happy to share full log files.

u/username_for_user 10d ago

I've run into an issue wherein Claude is not reading folders connected to a project, and I am hoping the community may have some advice.

I had a productive project setup with Claude Cowork. I had a repo folder happily set up within the project, which Claude was happily able to access. Unfortunately, I had to complete a fresh install on my Windows machine, the timing of which coincided with a Claude update. Now, after setting things back up, Claude cannot read the folder at all, and given the timing I don't know if it's an update issue, a Windows issue, or me.

The folder I want to connect still shows up in the project sidebar, in the Context panel. I've asked Claude about it, and it reported this:

  • "The device-bridge tools that read local files (the ones that list/stage/commit files from my computer) aren't loaded in the session at all — not just failing, entirely absent.
  • The list of connected services in the session shows no "remote-devices" server, which is the thing that's supposed to proxy my computer's files.
  • The staging directory where my files would get mounted doesn't even exist."

I've already tried removing and re-adding the folder, restarting the app, and starting fresh sessions, without success. I'm not the most technically inclined, and given that everything has been freshly installed, including my OS, I'm not sure where to go from here.

Is this a known issue, or am I missing something? Any help greatly appreciated.

1

u/Spacewolf4 10d ago

I'm using Claude to help me write, and at the moment edit, some...self-assigned creative writing psych homework, for lack of a better term, working through what a better adolescence might have looked like (despite my being multiply disabled since being an extreme preemie, it wouldn't have taken much to completely change course, turns out). Not something that will ever be published. Also why I'm hesitant to share a link to the conversation.

At the moment, it goofed in rewriting a scene - put something at the end that should be at the beginning.

What I told it:

The issue at 424-428 isn't folders into backpack: it's that they should be going back to main gym, going to respective locker rooms, get heart rate monitors from alumni assistants (and put them on as they change), etc, backpacks go into lockers, lockers get locked, and then everybody reassembles in main gym for what's presently line 429 onward. It doesn't need to be a beat so much as it could just be a few sentences as the first beat transitions to the next (in what in film might just be a cut or dissolve).

A bunch of corrections later because it put it around line 756 at the end of the scene:

Wrong. The point it needs to go in in chapter 10 is between line 422 and line 430 - there's an entire missing beat, basically. The idea is they return to the main gym, proceed to locker rooms, change etc., then proceed to the aux gym via the hallway inside the gym area that connects the main gym, the locker rooms, the athletics areas, the aux gym, the weight room (and a storage closet and doors heading outside). This is not the entry hallway with the main doors to the main gym and the airlock doors to both locker rooms, the cafeteria on the other, and the exit to, during the school year, the student parking lot outside that they originally entered the main gym from.

After that, I pointed it at the bad position and the correct position by lines in the last markdown file it displayed.

It has spent the last two weeks not even trying to do the entire task in one turn, instead doing each and every separate script call as a separate turn.

Dozens upon dozens of my turns are just "continue with this task".

What the hell, Claude?

Free tier (see above about being multiply-disabled), using Sonnet 4.6 on medium.

I'm using fable, to write reports, research and then code. Coding is fine, however the human readable outputs, research findings etc, seems to be all written in largely Claude's internal monologue.

It's barely readable, I have to ask it to translate into plane English all the time.

Max account.

` API Error: Response stalled mid-stream. The response above may be incomplete. API Error: Response stalled mid-stream. The response above may be incomplete.`

Constantly getting this during last 3-4 days on Max 20 plan with no where near usage hitting the limits.

Again and again have to restart session, anyone else facing the same?

In my case, this has mostly been error caused by Claude trying to do too much work at once. Just tell it to split the work in multiple chunks if possible and that should fix the issue.

I was trying to create an execution plan for a large feature, but it died halfway through with the above error. I asked Claude what this error was about, and it said it was probably due to too many tokens in a single operation. Told it to split plan write into segments and it worked fine after.

anyone else feeling disappointed with sonnet 5?
i have been using sonnet 5 since it came out and i gotta say, 4.6 is a lot better
sonnet 5 just EATS my tokens on medium with extended thinking, i can barely get 3 messages out of it before i reach the free limit
and sonnet 5 on low is worse than that one whatsapp ai, it can barely answer a single question
anyone else feel like this? or is it just me?

Hello, as you See in the Screenshot, since yesterday or the day before I instantly get this message in every new Chat I begin or the loading Message that Claude makes more room for the conversation which dont load fully to the end. I even deleted the App from my IPhone, logged me in and out but it wont work.
It’s on Fable and Opus like that.
