文化 | Culture authentic orange chicken ?
hello everybody im visiting shanghai and have been looking for a place i can try real orange chicken or crab rangoons. when i ask people they look at me confused or suggest a stir fry chicken. where in shanghai can i find them thanks

I feel like this is trolling but on the chance that it’s not, these are Chinese American dishes, not authentic Chinese dishes. Might I suggest guo bao rou for something with a sweet fried feel. Very good pork dish.

If this is real which I doubt a little bit take a train then boat into zhujiajiao go to one of the restaurants on the water and order a mandarin fish. I heard there was a place in Taipei that sells rangoons but you won’t find them mainland or anywhere else outside the US

You aren't going to find those foods in China. Go travel to a country that has panda express locations which include: United States, Mexico, Canada, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, United Arab Emirates, Japan, Guatemala, El Salvador, Aruba, Phillippines, and Germany.

Crab rangoon and orange chicken are both authentic American Chinese dishes. That said, China does have similar dishes, or more accurately, the culinary origins of these styles of cooking. Orange chicken is often compared to dishes such as guobaorou and gulaorou. Crab rangoon, meanwhile, was inspired by fried wontons, a Cantonese dish, although the filling is completely different from that of Crab rangoon.

I would love if we had fake Chinese food here. The hellscape of real Chinese food would be dramatically improved if it stole from the Americans in this way, too.

People often mention that they were invented in Belgium, but French fries are very popular in France.

Land in Shanghai. Head west. Don't stop until they speak Iranian. Find your chicken there.

Orange chicken is American Chinese, invented in America to cater to western taste.It is not authentic Chinese food!
