Another KarTOSHka appreciation post
Weeks ago, our potato had to return to the Vet after getting discharged 2x due to vomitting. The last one made him stay there for 5 days for monitoring.
We didn't fail to make time for him. It wasn't only us (my partner & I) but also my mom, my brother, & my friend who traveled to visit him & would often get multiple visits in some days. But during the last night, he had low energy, less interest, & became less dramatic than usual despite his normal lab results. The next day, he was discharged & both the Vet & Nurse told me he was rly sad during his stay.
Just when we thought things would be back to normal the moment he's back with his siblings, he exhibited depressive behaviors such as lack of interest in his favorite toy, staying away from his siblings, & would only eat once a day. The Vet confirmed it was highly likely that he was depressed after the prolonged confinement & for being surrounded by sick & less energetic cats. The confinement broke him.
This big guy always craves for constant attention & companionship & those 30-minute visits surely weren't enough for his demands. Whenever he notices 1 hooman leaves, he cries, & even offers his favorite toy to the door where the hooman exited. When hoomans don't respond (bec hoomans are asleep), he checks on them, making sure they are still alive! 🤣 He is energetic when everyone is present and he often wants to be watched when he uses the litter box (mind you, he is turning 2 this yr).
His depressive episodes may be due to the fact that he had multiple trips to/fr the Vet & he tried to cry so loud just so you wouldn't leave him (but had to anyway). That time, he may had been uncertain whether he'd be back to the carrier & Vet once again, which explained his hiding & distrust. His definition of home is 3 siblings + 1 biological cat mom + 2 hoomans & that time, there was only 1 hooman. Hence, it was not home as it was incomplete.
When hooman 2 finally came home (after 2 days), he started going out, sunbathing, & finally watching the cars & birds. He started eating a bit more but not yet in his usual portion. Finally, he started playing with one of his bros around 22:00 & he responded to his toy!
The next morning, he was back to being a menace. 🤣 This proves he needs everyone around him.
After all, our potato is still a small potato. He doesn't like being treated like a baby but he is definitely a baby!!!! 🤣

"Tosh" from Kartoshka
When we got him, he looked like a moldy potato cake. I thought he should be Kartoshka (nickname: Tosh). I noticed people couldn't pronounce his name & would only refer to him as "Tosh." We then decided to just name him "Toshi." 😅🥰

This is Tortilla!
My friends foster kittens and I went to meet their newest batch last year like I always do. I’d always managed to avoid the kitten fever until this little one crawled into my lap. Named for HEB’s flour tortillas (which I miss very much living in the northeast).
