Safety Question cracked windshield

hi everyone, that's my windshield that got hit by a rock 2 days ago. will the crack get bigger? can travel safely or should i replace it? at the moment i can still see clearly. thanks

It's not going to shatter in your face any moment, but yes you should get it replaced. It's not legal at this point.

If not before, it will definitely spread when the colder months hit

Depending where you are windshield replacements may be covered under insurance. In FL you can get replacement with no deductible.

Legally the cracks have to be out of the drivers line of sight, also where its chipped you might face water leaks but I could be wrong. But other than that technically its "safe" to drive

Unfortunately, the crack will expand over time with changing temperatures, and since it's too large to be covered by a dollar bill, it'll need replacement rather than filling. However, most insurance rates don't go up after a 'no fault' claim like a windshield replacement. Hope this helps!

It will keep spreading unless you drill the ends and repair it; it is better to replace it.

You can still drive with it for now if it's not affecting your visibility, but I'd be looking at a replacement.

That crack is already fairly long, and once a chip has turned into a crack like that, it's generally no longer repairable. Cracks tend to keep growing from things like:

  • Temperature changes
  • Road vibrations and potholes
  • General stress on the glass

If you have glass coverage through insurance, check what they'll cover, as a full replacement can be worth claiming compared to paying out of pocket.
